Historic heat wave delayed my stealth camping!
Well, it doesn't really get dark in Indian Cabins on June 21/22, which I felt was the perfect place to go camping and test out our solar panels. The bugs were ferocious, the weather was hot, but it was a blast. We will definitely return most likely in the fall for some insect-free camping.
I picked up some flexible solar panels from amazon and they are doing a fine job. I had them hooked up in series, but the charge controller didn't like the voltage that high, so I'll have to rewire them in the future.

Hey everyone! I had fully intended to get a stealth camping video up this week, but there's a historic heatwave happening here right now and we are still stuck with a broken-down bus. The heat should subside in the next couple of days and I'll be back at the stealth camping I so dearly miss. Cheers!

@@campingwithsteve I am 54 and only recently started drinking beer. Is it just me or is it a real common feeling... I have an urge to sit with people when I drink beer and when I see someone open a beer in a movie or an online video, I have an urge to want to have a beer while they are having their's. So after 50 years of enjoying iced tea or soda by myself(I still do), it feels odd having a beer by myself. Something primal maybe in the DNA or Gene Pool stirs some ancient bonding ritual. The same with a camp fire... feels odd sitting at a camp fire alone. I know my crushed frozen pineapple is better with Jamaican Me Happy Seagram's Escapes fruity malt beer while sitting with my wife. I live in Florida and have only tried about four or five regular American brands of light beer and about four or five fruity malt beer flavors with frozen crushed fruit. I guess I will have to live beyond 100 to get to try all the beers there are. When he opened that beer, I almost climbed out of bed to get a beer and it's 4 in the morning.

You probably found a fuel cache, not waste fuel. Planes flying in the far north leave caches close by to their landing sites, which aren't always what we think of as airports. Could be just a clearing. That old camp site would make a great visual landmark, and if you're right about it being for oil workers or loggers, those would be the people receiving transport or supplies from the air service. Pretty cool find!

@@mountainbound1315 that's what i thought the first time i saw a cockroach... I lived in this house for years and never saw one (but in hindsight i did see them outside, just didn't know they were actual cockroaches.) So i find one in my cabinet one day and i just lost my mind, you know what they say... "Where there's one there's hundreds more". So i absolutely tore the house apart and found nothing. Then i started to recall seeing a few outside over the years and i figured this one just got in. I calmed down, and saw occasionally they'd fly onto the window screen or sit on the house wall at night, i later found out they were natural in pine forests, and unless your house is a moist food filled place they just can't take hold, like ants. But i will say, i found that thing while cooking dinner and i was up till the sun just about came out cleaning, hahaha! Lesson learned.

Oh my. Trip down memory lane for me, Steve! Late August 1972, I was 11 years old, my dad decided to use his two week vacation to make a dash from Seattle up to Yellowknife. The highway north was dirt then and we were 2 miles south of the NWT border when my dad tried to pass whatever was making the dust cloud ahead of us. He stacked our brand new car into the back of a truck whose brakes had dynamited and stopped it in the middle of the road. Minor injuries only, but the car was totalled. The people at the visitor center took us in over night, then took us home to Hay River NWT with them. We camped on the shore of Great Slave Lake for a week waiting for an insurance adjuster to come up from Edmonton. The 18 year old son of the visitor center people was a working bush pilot who took us up in his Norseman floatplane and told amazing stories of bush flying adventures. A super moon rose laying a huge path of white light over the mouth of the Hay River where it enters Great Slave Lake and imbeded itself in my memory. And I remember that ferry across the Peace River! Thanks for making my day!

Consider using something additional to hold the front edge of the solar panels. A strip of something screwed to the roof. Might keep them from being lifted up by the wind while traveling. Love the channel Steve!

Or, check out the aluminum strip and caulking holding the emergency escape hatch down. Edge the panels the same way. I have used RTV in the past to glue items down (fiberglass safety signs). When the time came to remove them, I finally got them off, but the RTV also removed the underlying paint! That stuff rivals superglue once it has had time to cure.

Hey Steve, if you haven't done it already, you might want to run a bead of caulk, at the very least, along the front (leading) edge of the solar panels to keep the air from getting under them and peeling off while you're driving.

The drums are jet fuel for helicopters. One of them was labelled 'Delta' which is a helicopter company in High Level. Oil/Gas and Forestry use helicopters all the time up there for accessing their sites, especially in the summer.
