Founder and Artistic Director of Farafina Kan began traveled to Belgium and Guinea for a period of 15 - 20 years learning traditiona Djembe from Grand Master Mamady Keita. Years later he began a yearly worklshop tour with Mamady Keita throughout the US spreading traditional Djembe Culture of the Manding and helping to expand the Tam tam Mandigue Brand. When he decided he wanted to put a group together, Mamady Keita gave him the name Farafina Kan which translates to the Sound of Africa. Farafina Kan started come together in 2002 - 2003 but began making public appearances in 2004. Shortly after teh development of Farafina Kan, during one of the Workshop tours in Chicago, IL 2005, we put together a show w/Mamady Keita. This was the first and only time Farafina Kan performed on stage with Mamady Keita and we did it our way. Enjoy the crankage.
