I have been using the 2-4 cups Farberware pot for years. Makes great coffee. I have a newer one from the 80s and inherited my aunt's from the 60s. That's the one I use as I like having the glass thing on top. Also, the older ones were made in the US. Not any more.

I have serveral perculators by Faberware. All older as I inhertited them from my grandparents house and a freind's house after they passed. Never had an instructions. I use the filter discs but had never heard of wetting the baskets. They really last a long time as they are so simple and well made. I also like that hotter coffee from a percolator over a drip machine.

It certainly does and look how simple and look how we don’t need to buy filters and look out. We don’t need to stress over it. We can just put our coffee in there. I’m using organic coffee. I grind the beans fresh. I do that because I like it but you don’t have to do anything that you don’t want to. This is certainly less expensive And the only reason Starbucks is made so much money. I think it’s because they have capitalized on people, liking sweets and cream and all of that stuff in it. By the time you put all that and you can have the worst cuppa coffee ever and make a caramel macchiato out of it and it’s delicious but look at the calories look how expensive that is I mean this right here is absolutely satisfying. it’s delicious it has the aroma. I’m looking for the color and one thing I like it’s clear coffee is Clear not muddy looking

I just bought one and I have never in my life used a percolater so this was very helpful. I'm hoping this lasts a good long time and that it's a style I'm happy with. I'm okay with some grounds at the bottom. We could even get some sort of pour over system for the last bits if it's a real problem later down the road. I was interested to hear that there are "donut shape" filters. I may look into that as well. Thanks, Sir! Kendra near Seattle.

It is nice to see how a perc is suppose to be used. I on the other hand only use mine when I need something close to tar that will keep me up for days. I have an older one that heats up really fast so that short cord gets hot quick. I am guessing the newer ones have backed off on the power for safety reasons and therefore slowed the brew time down a bit and didn't see the need to lengthen the cord.

Would love to see you do a head to head competition of a vintage Farberware (made in the USA) versus a newer model made in China and compare brew times and temps and flavour profile. I think some of the newer cheaper made machines are perking way too fast and compromising flavour for speed.

I have the early model of the same 12 cup percolator that was made in NYC. It looks identical except the top is a see through plastic knob to watch the coffee doing it's thing. Brew time is about the same and the finished temperature is 187 F. There is only a two prong plug as opposed to this newer one that included the ground.

I bought the Mixpresso percolator on Amazon & it perked twice, then it stopped perking. I kept trying with water, no coffee grounds and it boiled the water, but didnt perk for 4-5 brew cycles. (BTW--the water is HOT) . I tried again, making sure the percolator stem was down in the "hole" making good contact with the heating element, & now it perks perfectly everytime! 😅 The coffee is hot & delicious. 😋 Guess the pot just needed a little coaxing--- don't give up too quickly.

I found a Farberware 47053 In brand new condition at a thrift store for $3, but I'm now seeing it's missing the top part after you add the coffee grounds. Wondering if that part is simply to keep any ground from your coffee mug while you're pouring?

Great video!! Thanks for posting. I find for instant coffee, it says 1 TEASPOON per 6oz of water, and that’s the strength I like….for my French press, I use 3 rounded TABLESPOONS of ground coffee, and it is a 6 cup French press, and that, gives me the SAME strength. On my percolator(same as yours), I go in between the 8 and 10 cup mark, for 9 cups, and I add 4 slightly rounded measuring tablespoons, that gives me 4 regular average coffee MUGS of coffee, with just a little splash leftover, for the dregs, lol..that way all the brew strengths are same, no matter the brew method/instant.

OK, so you know it is done when the noise stops? But you leave it plugged in at the same temperature to keep it hot? Doesnt that result in over-cooking the coffee after a few minutes? Would be nice if the temp could be turned down but not off after it is done. No on-off switch seems a little inconvenient.

I don’t see that he answered ur question so being I have this model (mine is a FCP280 ) and have been using it for 15 plus years I think I can give u advise that may help. Okay so I used to go back n forth with using and not using the paper filter inside the basket. I no longer use it. I found when u use the paper filter the coffee always came out weak and light. I don’t know if that is what ur doing or not but that is one thing that def caused weak coffee in mine. Also don’t use a lot because I found that if u do most of that coffee grind is just wasted. I use an actual measuring spoon. I have a long metal one ( 1tbsp ) and I do exactly 1/1 ratio of scoops to cups of water (cups marked inside machine not actual measurement cups as they are much different) and it comes out good. Hopefully this helps
