Now that I’ll be turning 18 years old in January... I’m starting to feel old already just by watching this video! 😆 Really a shame they closed all three remaining RR-crossings about 6 years ago, although I can understand why...

@AliceInChains24311 жыл бұрын
I guess it's only a matter of time before they take these last few out of a service, but on the upside the 125 MPH will be quite the sight if they do go as far as upgrading to as fast as the toasters can operate. This was a nice example of how much creativity can be expressed in three locations for a solid 24 minutes, lot of nicely composed shots here. I especially liked the one of 953 at Irishtown and the 646 at Newcomer. The final parting shot of the vehicular traffic closed out the era well.

0:22: How strange it seems to me. Normally, the indicator position lamps flash intermittently. Why are they both blinking at the same time? 3:50: No horn zone? Because the train hasn't done the honk sequence. 15:36: Is it me or is it a two-tone horn? 19:06: The Dash 8 seems to have a Norfolk Southern horn, since the tone is not the typical one used by the P42, for example. 21:59: I love the classical railroad crossing bell.

They are Keystone trains that are "push-pull" consists using the old Metroliner m.u. cars from the PRR/P.C. era as cab-coaches. AMTRAK has used them since taking over the NEC and Keystone Corridor in 1976, using them primarily on the NEC in New England and for the Keystone Service since 2008-09 when the entire Keystone Corridor was overhauled by AMTRAK and PennDOT. It was also used by AMTRAK for its short-lived Atlantic City-Philadelphia "Gambler's Express" Service (since taken over by NJ Transit).

Those old grade crossings go back to the days of the former Pennsylvania Railroad. What Amtrak calls the Keystone Corridor, was the Pennsylvania Railroad Main Line that ran from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia and whose name (Main Line), became synonymous with the high-end suburban Philadelphia residential area (stretching from Paoli to the Philadelphia City/Montgomery County line) that was originally called the "Welsh Tract" by William Penn (thus if you look at a SEPTA Paoli/Thorndale Line timetable - which SEPTA trains share with Amtrak - you will see a lot of stations with Welsh-sounding names).
