Thanks for sharing Mark. So many have given so much of themselves to the protection of others. Always liked this quote, "All that is needed for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". Chuck was one of those that chose to act. Rest In Piece Chuck, a good man.

Mark, thank you for sharing this awesome tribute to Charles "Chuck" Mawhinney. I heard about him many years ago, don't ask me where. It may have come from my daughter's Ex who was also a Marine Scout Sniper during the war in Somalia and the Gulf Wars. I used to have a pretty good size library of the Civil War, through the wars in the Sandbox. I may have read about Mr. Mawhinney in one of those books. My 79 year old Gray Matter isn't too sharp these days. Again, I want to thank you Mark for shining some light on this great Hero. To all who served, in every conflict, I salute you and thank you for your service also. May God's Blessings be upon you and your family.

Don't know that it matters much, maybe coincidence, but I've just been putting the finishing touches on a "tribut" 1941 USMC 1903 "Snipers". Been collecting 03s and A3s for 20+ years, stumbled across an original 03A4 that I could afford a few years back, but Unertl's and National Match A1s with Corps provenance cost more than my last pickup, so... I appreciate all those who provided overwatch while I worked, God speed, and go easy, Bro.

A close friend of our family, a local cowboy and saddlemaker, was a Marine Corps countersniper in the Pacific in WW2. I only heard a few stories from his wife after he passed away. I believe he carried one of those 03's.

USMC Commandant Charles Krulak repeatedly emphasized the importance of the “Strategic Corporal”, stressing the point that the entire leadership and logistical hierarchy is there to set up the first level of leadership on the battlefield for victory. True enough! In addition I would humbly submit that a proficient scout sniper is THE Strategic, Operational AND Tactical Individual Marine! S/F RIP Chuck!
