Farm stuff for sale: Hthomas@rootedpastures.com
We got a lead on a farm that is selling all their equipment and livestock. My mind in whirling with ideas of all the possibilities. We load up the trailer and make the trip over to the farm and come back home with 10 new pigs!

Sad they had to sell but should also serve to remind us that farm stability is dependent upon self sufficiency. I’d encourage younger farmers not to build something with investors money. About 8 years ago we had to break our small farm up due to a massive flood just as we were ramping up. All animals had to go but we hung on to a few chickens and our two Maremma dogs. A couple of years later due to another move they had to go. I will say one thing when you get the dogs, be careful with your kids with them. Train them daily the new property boundaries and just don’t let them loose. Our dogs would dispatch any raccoon, stray cat or wandering coyote. Watch them close but I have to say, they were the heart of our farm.

Having gone through a number of ups and downs economically and personally, I can say with all honesty that keeping your family together is more important than ANYTHING else that you have invested time or money in. Family is the one thing you cannot replace. Animals, tools, trucks, tractors and land are all replaceable. The people you eat dinner with are the most important. Always. I lost almost everything I listed. Except for the love of my children. I am blessed with two great loving grown up kids who have stood shoulder to shoulder with me. I am wealthier today than I ever was when I had “it all.”

I just got back from driving to Houston Texas from Cleveland Ohio and the one this that was most disturbing was seeing so many emaciated cows! I bet I seen atleast a dozen farms that had cows that were clearly was under fed you could count their ribs so sad...

It's really hard when you have to sell everything from your farm. When my grandfather died, there was a farm auction and I was in tears watching all the animals and equipment being sold off. But it had to happen, as nobody else in the family could take it on. We all lived in cities and in different states. So I really feel for them. But at the same time, I know they were probably relieved that you were able to buy so much, and maybe that expedited the experience and relieved some of their burden. Your children are so polite and mature. Much love to all.

There land is not in proper grazing status at this moment. It would behoove Sow the Land to let the land regenerate for a year before getting grazing animals. They seem to have their hands full at the present just getting settled. JGiles

You missed the point of this video! Justin got an amazing deal by cleaning out some poor family's farm. I would bet that this young farmer even bought Justin's Abundance plus subscription. It would literally take a week for Justin to do a GoFundMe for this guy and help pick him up again. I guarantee he doesn't.

@@jackantwon9639 Im not sure I agree that that was the "point" of this video. But your comment was confusing, in general. Are you criticizing Justin Rhodes and insinuating this family is loosing their farm because they bought Justin's app? And are you insinuating Justin isn't the type of person that would help out a fellow homesteader in need? I am genuinely confused so thank you in advance for clarifying!

Your oldest son reminds me of when I was kid on the farm. I loved farming. I loved working with the livestock, I loved working in the fields. Sadly, my dad got cancer and my parents reluctantly sold the farm. I am 69 years old now and, I still miss the farm. Watching this video, actually brought tears to my eyes. My parents felt the same way having to sell the farm as that guy did. My dad died of cancer when I was 12 years old. I still miss him today and I still miss the farm.

They seem like wonderful people. Maybe if you take on a lot of animals and need help with infrastructure etc in the short term they could come help you since they did an excellent job of setting their place up. I would absolutely get all the chicken processing equipment - it would make your processing much more efficient, and you could hire it out to your friends and local abundance community for their processing needs as well. It would also be a great set up for workshops etc.

I'm excited for "Pigs for Everyone!" So sad that Hunter's family ran out of money to continue with their farm. This seems like a perfect time for you to expand because you have a lot of infrastructure now and the boys are old enough to take more on. They had a beautiful set-up. I hope they can get something for their farm. It is set-up really nice. Just shows you how many family farms are falling on hard times. I'm sure feed is going to go up. Too bad for them. The dogs are beautiful. Nice choice on the pigs, cows, and sheep dog! Great pig feeder and waterer. Very nice walk in freezer! The boys are sure excited for the tools. He only has 48 hours to liquidate his farm? Do they have somewhere to live after this? You are helping them by getting money in their pocket but it's still sad for them. Thanks for this Justin. I'm glad your friend Mike let you know about them.
