How to install pex water line for cows!

In today's video we are installing a pex water line for our small cow herd. In typical farmer fashion we just ran water hoses across the yard to save time, but we need to get the cows watered in a more sustainable method on the homestead. I bought a one shank subsoiled and had a great idea to use for installing the pex line on @adamsfamilyhomestead37.
We hook it up to the John Deere 3025e and test out our new installation idea.

Did this today with a box blade. Dropped one of the teeth all the way down and got the other ones out of the way. Worked like a charm

I thought about doing it with the boxblade but wanted to get it as deep as I could. I also need the sub spoiler to loosen j up the Field I planted in grass. Thanks for sharing

There is a company called Titan Attachments that sells a pipe layer attachment that works with their subsoiler/middle buster to put pipe or cable in the ground as it digs the trench. The nice thing about it is that the pipe goes in before any dirt collapses back into the trench, so it buries the pipe a foot underground. I believe this attachment replicates the home-grown solutions that others have mentioned in the comments.

Ben using a subsoiler for years to lay pipe and small electric cable...they make, or you can make, a pipe layer attachment that mounts on the back of the sub soiler shank that goes down right behind the foot of the subsoiler....just start your trench and then feed the pipe down the tube and it goes into the trench right behind the foot...Then when you cover about all you have to do is drive over the trench with the tracotor tire......the way you did it works, but you pack about a foot of soil in the end of the pipe (depending on the ground type) and you have to cut that part off or spend a while clearing the plug.....look around on the net and you will see how simple the pipe layer attachment is for a subsoiler and then make you one....

I watch a KZfaq channel called dirt perfect. They put field tile in on farmland with one they made like yours, but it’s on the back of a humongous dozer. Didn’t realize they made them for other projects like this. Thanks for sharing. Going to check it out.

Nice solution for what appears to be very sandy soil. Where I am we have so much clay that we put a pipe on the ripper and fed the coil of, in our case, wire down that tube so we weren't dragging it through the ground but instead just dropped it in the bottom of the trench. Big field tile is installed the same way. That chain seemed to be pretty long but if it works it works.

Attach a pipe roll holder to the 1 tooth decompactor, weld a bent guide tube on the rear of the tooth with outlet at the bottom, insert the tube, attach it at the starting point and of you go. If need be add a wheel or to behind to flaten the ridge.

Good idea! I have a similar plow that I purchased at TSC, except mine has a sweep on it. I bought the middle buster to work our garden to break up the ground deeper than my plow will go. I have used it to lay pipe also, and underground electrical. :)

That sure beat digging by hand! I saw them put a drain tile in with a big tractor and a ripper with a tube on the back of the ripper (like a grain drill) for the plastic tile to go down and hundreds of feet went fast. Nice idea. I may have to run power and water a few hundred yards. Although we do have a lot of rocks that may get in the way.

When checking for leaks, you would need to open the spigot to let the air out of he pex before you would have water in the pipes to see if it leaks..

I would have used steel pipe for the riser. Cows tend to break PVC.

Vertices pipes ought to be galvanized pipe, supported with a fence post .

Cutting corners by not adding a tracer wire to your buried utilities will definitely cause headaches later if you sell or bequeath that farm to a family member and they want to dig a well, septic system or whatever else with a backhoe or excavator 20 years in the future. That buried PEX will serve water for 50 years or more if it isn't cut by accident.
