You made some good progress! It's good to see a person take it easy when removing and installing a camshaft! A person can do a lot of damage to the cam bearings if you don't install it carefully.

I wish you would do this to settle the age-old debate. Before the head goes on, with a magnetic base dial indicator, prove that the first timing mark that comes around is really TDC. The service manual says so. But, it is often debated.

One (*) to your gear cover assembly. If the H has a magneto, the auxiliary shaft (distributor drive) and gear need to be installed and timed first so the magneto pawls will catch at the the right spot for safe and successful starting.

Old H is looking good Toby! You throw horseshoes much? If you don't, you really should because you couldn't have walked up and hung that gasket any more precise on that peg if you even tried to! I really appreciate this series because it will give me a good reference to go to if I need some details when I tear down the H I am going to completely rebuild at some point this winter. It needs everything done, and if it weren't for the fact it belonged to my grandfather, I would just part it out or scrap it. It's been sitting in the back of the shed for 35 years just begging for attention under all the dust.

If regular Joe blow is looking to restore an older (but working) tractor, is it always necessary to do all the steps you’re doing or is a sandblast / paint job suffice? For a tractor that gets a few Sunday drives a year.
@squatch253
@squatch253 4 ай бұрын
Most times, if the engine runs clean and doesn’t burn oil, and the gears run nice and quiet, all that’s really needed is a thorough change of all of the fluids and a good tune-up like plugs, wires, belts, hoses etc. I do caution people against sandblasting a fully assembled machine that they’re not planning on taking completely apart afterwards because no matter how well I’ve ever tried to seal up all the openings, the sandblasting grit has always found its way in. Then you’re left with an abrasive grinding paste that will be wearing out anything it touches. I prefer a wire wheel for cleaning down to bare metal on a machine that’s going to stay mostly assembled 👍

Great video, and great progress! A couple of questions... 1. I know you announced up front that this would not be a full step by step on how to rebuild or reseal a Farmall H, but as far as bolt torque goes, you didn't show any of that. Do you systematically torque each component to it's spec, or go by feel and experience. Knowing the Squatch way, I think I know the answer already. 2. As far as a parts manual, can you share the number or description of the one you use? I have an H, and i should get a parts manual. Thanks!
