Here's what I find irritating about the guys leaving the gates open. They found them closed .... so why didn't they use some common sense and close them back?

There was a forestry official here who liked to leave gates open. Until one day he came back from his hike and found his truck doors chained shut with a bunch of locks and a heavy sign that read “close the gates or life will get hard”. Word spread from there and the gates are never left open now.

FT, You are so lucky that no deadly accidents happened. We had two gates at a train track crossing. The train crew who did maintained the track left both open. Train ran and killed 21 young cattle ( Holsteins bred). That will always be etched in my mind. Glad you had friends to help. Cheers from Maine.

My granddad an uncles always taught us kids that you leave gates the way you find them. If they are open, you leave them open when you leave. If they are closed, you leave them closed when you leave. The land owner may have a good reason for a gate to be open or closed and unless you know why, you always leave gates as you find them. Some city kid working on the levy simply didn't know this fundamental "gate rule". Glad that it workd out for Tyler. But the gate left open still caused alot of needless work for Tyler and his friends to get the cows back where they belonged. Respectfully, W.S.

I’m new so if you explained it in the past, I haven’t see it yet. Should mention about the cows getting loose. Good to see your friends helped out rounding up the herd. Scary that the workers don’t realize, know or care about the gate. Maybe you need to post a sign so it doesn’t happen anymore. Have a great Memorial Day weekend. BBQing? Enjoy! Thank you FTR !!!

@robinwhitlatch4497
@robinwhitlatch4497 20 күн бұрын
If larger stemmed hay is baled too dry it will not be palatable, will be tough & hard to chew, nutritional value decreases and the stems tend to split when baled. Depending on the type of hay, if too dry it becomes brittle & will disintegrate making it useless to feed. If baled too moist or wet the hay will mold, get very hot & combust. This is how many stack, hay shed & barn fires start.

Tyler, get yourself some saline nasal spray. Use it liberally, carry it with you and you can spray it every hour or so. The dust and debris from haying irritates and swell your sinuses and nasal membranes. The saline helps to moisten and decrease the inflammation and open your nasal airways. You can breath easier and prevent the chance of a sinus infection.

I know it’s not your own pasture and is far away from home base so you’re probably under orders to let the maintenance guys get on with their work - but if it was my own land I would put a great big chain and lock on each gate with my phone number and every time someone wanted to pass in or out they’d be ringing me up and waiting for me to drive out and open it. After a day of silly hassles and standing around waiting for the lock to be opened, any worker would quickly get the message that the gates should be put back to how they were found or suffer the consequences and ribbing from the rest of the crew if the lock was put back on. Best way to get the message across - peer pressure and shame haha
