Yeah, the lack of rain in May and June, killed a lot. Last year we got the best bumper harvest ever on the farm, but this year will be awful. Same amount of work, but not even near paying off. Started combining oats this afternoon, almost a trailer full and then got the joy of smelling a burnt threshing belt and black smoke coming from the harvester. So now I know what I have to do in the morning.

@@OllyBlogsAgricontractfarmer Across all sectors everyone is so despondent. I’m ex NHS and retrained in law after I jacked my back. The NHS is close to collapse, it’s carrying so many vacancies, I was burnt out and scores of my friends have left. The courts are stuffed it’s taking that long to get a case heard and now we have to worry about the courts falling down if and when they are open 🙄. It all has to turn a corner, it’s not sustainable. What Harry hasn’t revealed yet is that he can enter his AB6 environmental scheme, but it wont be until the 2024/5 Winter that he actually have any of his fields in AB6. Therefore he will have to to grow a break crop on some description one more year for harvest 2024. Like me, he is probably wondering which one will lose hime the least amount of money, compared to growing no crop at all!

The Wef wants to reduce agricultural impacts on climate change and they're idea is that by reducing farming overall this will help the environment. What they don't say is ultimately they'd like far less people populating the planet. By starving the third world firstly with wealthier countries suffering the same fate eventually. Less humans , less co2. The elite are calous and vicious but killing us slowly and quietly is far safer than causing a revolt, see we outnumber them massively but we're good citizens so we do what we're told!! Die quietly.⁷

A brilliant video ollie........ I love it when people like yourself point out how risky and poor returns from farming impact the farming community........there seems to be a lot of the general public that think farmers are 'doing allright' and as for the government they don't seem to have a clue about anything rural. I remember last year George Eustice saying oh farmers will be alright without the single farm payment cos commodity prices have gone up.......well that might have been true last year but it's not the case this year. I think most farmers can tollerate a bad year perhaps 1 year in 5 but i think if farmers have too many bad years in a row a lot are going to 'pack it in'. The government have got it all wrong i think ........they keep saying oh farmers are going to be funded the same amount of money as they were getting under the single farm payment but what they haven't grassped is there new environmental payments are nothing to do with food production so where's the incentive to produce food going to come from. keep up the good work ollie .......we need people like you

We used them on school grounds maintenance but they were unreliable, mainly due to them needing to be very finicky unless kept scrupliously clean. This is completely outwith our control.🤷 You didn't mention the expensive fertiliser used to grow this year's crops. Urea bought at £900/t. N at £650. This has just compounded the problem. Good your highlighting it to everyone. Lucky we've the NFU to support us.

Now Most Farmers Have 200hp And Above Size Tractors And Run at 36meters Were it Was 12meters Then ,So All This Bigger Equipment Costs a Vast anount More And Everything Is Full Of Electronics So The Farmer Can Not Repair it Himself,Meaning Dealer Only Servicing, Where We Serviced Everything Ourselfs. You Also Feel You Must Keep Buying The Latest Tech That is Supposed to Be Better and Costs another Fortune To Buy and Run,If You Just Used Basic Smaller Tractors And Kit You Could Look After Yourself Surely You Would Be a Lot Better Off Than Keep Earning Money To Through Straight Back at Agri Dealers ???

I always worked in greenhouses, in the beginning every product went to the clock and if the price was not met it would be destroyed, or used for animal feed but the price was regulated and the amount produced of every crop could also be regulated. But the growers start selling around the auction directly to supermarkets or traders and that is well when the yields are great but in bad years the trading companies dictate the prices, i don`t say auctions are better but at least they dictated the prices but with good yields you make less

He is still going but scaled down massively but at least 3 others within a 20 mile radius have stopped all together. Farming and farming related work is probably at its lowest just now and I don't think I've spoken to anyone that's hopeful for the future. It's a sad state of affairs at the moment and more and more contractors/farmers are just giving up. No point spending all that time and money working at a loss. 😵

Great video Olly can’t believe the loss on the crops I think if everyone is in the same boat there could be few farmers going out of business...I’ve been looking for banger ropes as well to help keep the pigeons moving when out shooting..😊😊50%

hard to say at this time after the wettest summer for some time, but you should start to consider using an irrigation system of some kind to get your crops through the dry times, just a thought,

Finished our harvest today on some okay spring oats. Can’t say the same for the OSR out loaded this morning which yielded under 2t/ha😢 I think cab AC units struggled today being outside air temp was so warm.

It no use pricing up the crops you didn’t get, it just the same as pricing up what that dead bullock was worth and then getting the bill from the knacker man. It’s the only thing a farmer from 100 years ago would recognise it always been the same. Unfortunately it’s going to be a tough time for the people following the same finance model of the last ten years when borrowings were cheap and you could upgrade your equipment every few years. Those who have less borrowings will weather better in my opinion ( lived through the 80’s I know what’s coming)😩

Farmers are generally internal optimist's.... there's always next year. You have to move on and grow your next crop better than the last one. Well that's what keeps me going. We are lucky in NZ, having irrigation, must be hard watching crops go backwards and knowing there is nothing you can do about it. (Irrigation does cost though)

Chin up Ollie, At least you're in a location where you can operate viable diversification projects - imagine how tough it would be without them. Things might be tough with the farm over the next 12 months but it could be disastrous without your diversification income

I had the very same thoughts this evening I'm a fruit grower. Just feel it is like swimming against a ever increasing current and only for the fact I have everything invested in this and I need to try to get something back I would definitely walk thankless job a the moment

I use use CDA sprayers at work , absolutely brilliant far better than a knapsack for a lot of jobs . I have a conventional two metre sprayer for bigger areas. Now we're out of Europe farmers need to set up more co-op's etc to try and control the prices rather than the buyers setting the prices.

I hear all the time about the problems with water. Do we not need to start looking at ways we store water to be used in the summer months. I think we can say we get more than a enough water the rest of the year, so why not look at ways to store it.

Put a sumo through all your land and you’ll see a big difference. Stop running tractors like the xerion that drink fuel and get something better on fuel and you won’t have a huge fuel bill
