I've been enjoying my F8C as I build up my bounty rep: I've kept the ballistic cannons and replaced the repeaters with M*A laser cannons. I've dropped in the VK-00 as it has the QT tank to cope, and I haven't bothered changing the shields. It's ok-ish against the lightest fighters as long as you keep a bit of distance to offset their manoeuvrability but it really dials in as you get to mid-sized stuff. I prefer doing industrial game-loops, drinking beer and shouting "Yeehawwwww" every now and then but I could get used to combat in this. I've even been theory-crafting for my much loved Sentinel and my often ignored Super Hornet!

At this price, I would opt for a Vanguard. Size 5 gun mount, up to 32 missiles, size 2 quantum drive, pressurized cabin with two beds, 1.5 SCU of stowage, and a turret for group play. It''s not as fast or maneuverable, but between that huge gun mount and the stacks of missiles, it doesn't have to be. Especially if you have a gunner.

I was a huge vanguard fan, until mutliple changes in the flight model and the real gimmicks of PVP combat created an untenable environment for the Vanguard, in my eyes. Its to big, to slow, and cannot compete with the smalls. I ripped a vanguard to shreds with a Fury and it didnt land 1 single trade with me. The Vanguard isnt a "fighter" to me. Its a long range reconnaissance vehicle.

Great for PVE yeah, but you wouldn't want to go up against a good player in an F8, F7, Gladius, or Arrow in one.

Less DPS than F8 regardless of that gun. I would always choose an F8, and I have used both extensively.

Hornet MK2 has been found in the game files for 3.21.1eptu; They also stated their want to do more events like this.. I expect IAE will yield an event for the Hornet MK2, if not the f8c again/or as well Edit: gold tickets and platinum tickets have also been found in the game files lol

I noticed in your Combat performance section you had the guns in Auto-Gimbal mode, but the Fixed guns on the F8C don't have fixed assist in Gimbal mode so they default to the 1500M range setting. The best setting for gun convergence on the F8C is Locked as thrn all the guns will converge at the same distance.

For me it was an instant buy the moment i had my gold ticket it was the ship that got me into star citizen (last year during invictus i saw the trailer and was like holy shit which ship is that i NEED it) but i wasn’t willing to drop the 15k for the associated concierge rank and since at the time squadron 42 was essentially mia i was super stoked when it was finally available for the wider public. It is exactly what i have been looking for in a ship and at this point i basically dont fly anything else anymore which is a problem because i was a gunner in my friends redeemer up until the f8 was released. He lost a gunner on board but now has 8 guns flying with him

It is a really cool ship. I actually opted on this one to melt some stuff and pick it up for credit, while more expensive, just to have one on the account and I had a few ships still waiting for good gameplay. I agree the pricetag is steep for what it is. I know the F7A MkII kit is even more exclusive but I'd gladly trade my F8C for one of those.

I was half-expecting you to talk about the costs to repair this silly thing. I had a friend ram into me and take a wing off. Not only did it send me into an uncontrollable spin every time I move forward, when I finally limped back to a landing pad, I was hit with a repair bill of 90k aUEC. I've also had a couple 60k ones as well. I think it's a great way to balance bleeding edge planes. They will shred your wallet just as easily as they will shred enemies if you aren't careful.

Oh my goodness, that's not something I've encountered at all!!!!! When I repaired mine from normal combat use it was just a few thousand!

@@Farrister Oh yes, that's usually what I rack up too (though consider that the same damage on another combat plane would cost only a few hundred or 1k at most). But if you take enough damage to lose those cheeks or god forbid smack off one of those wings and lose guns, you're paying to have them replaced. :D

im thinking of getting a heavy fighter since the hurricane has only the 2x S4 in front and the pilot cant use the turret anymore. i had a ion and refunded it after the "baith and switch". i cant decide if i get a ion or a f8c... what are your thoughts guys?

Personally I wouldn't chase what you think might be the 'best' ship - balancing will take care of that, and reshuffle what is 'best' frequently. Instead I'd choose something that speaks to you personally with what you're hoping to achieve in game.

I'd have no problem with the F8C... If they let us CCU into it. But they don't. It's "pay full price or pound sand." Which is frustrating. I get they want to make money, but, I don't budget $300 for a single ship. I have to work to upgrade to one that price.

Well... I have been on this project since 2013 and I find it wrong to CIG sell this ship after everything they said. They sell this ship without the possibility to upgrade to it, and with 6 months' insurance if you buy with credits. So yeah... All they care about is money. I know they have bills to pay and all that, but still... Looks like the old promises mean nothing anymore... And all the players want is more powerful ships and are ready to buy them with real money. But they get mad if you say it's pay2win. That's my point of view of course! All in all, great vid Farrister!

@JL-rj9fl I'm sorry but that's just not true. Ever since they first talked about the ship in 2012 or 2013, many people involved in the project have stated and reaffirmed over the decade of development that this ship was one you had to earn in game after SQ42 and would not be up for purchase

I don't think so, not long term anyway. It is said to be unlocked by playing SQ42, so you could pay money to have it now, or wait for SQ42, then buy it in game.

I think most have melted the F8, its kinda not even mentioned, very uninspiring. Most fancy the C1, which of course isnt a fighter, me included. Good well rounded review

Disappointing you didn't talk about how CIG said this ship would never be up for sale :/ For a project that lives on the developers saying "trust us, we can make this project work", them going back on their word is a pretty big deal

It's not meta, as proven by multiple experienced combat pilots. It's actually surprisingly well balanced. It's a very strong, versatile fighter, but it doesn't have any distinct advantages. A Vanguard can still out DPS it with cannons, a Scorpius can still out-DPS it with lasers, and light and medium fighters can still out-maneuver it. Its main advantage is that it splits the difference and has moderate heavy fighter DPS with near medium fighter agility, allowing it to handle a wider variety of challenges than most more focused fighters. 1v1 between pilots of equal skill, a light fighter will usually still win. In a group setting, the 2-seat heavies still have the edge.

I understand why many people were excited for the F8C. It is a very cool ship, and incredibly powerful. But I wish there had been more resistance from the community. The marketing strategy of "hey, you can buy this now, but never again, so get it while you can" is, in laymans terms, 'quite scummy'. Apparently this marketing has been so succesful that CIG is now planning similar events in the future. CIG really should not have to resort to such measures. They are making enough money as is, and as SC is making decent progress, I don’t believe that to change. So, fellow citizens, in the future please boycott such sales, to ensure a fairer and scrupulous Star Citizen!
