Farrowing Pigs On Pasture - BEST Results So Far
We have had additional pigs to farrow on pasture. This time we had the best results so far.
One of our red pigs has farrowed and had good results. Then one of our spotted pigs gave birth and we had the BEST results so far.

Awesome job!! I raised pigs off and on for 15 years, i had two sows farrow while they had escaped. Both those sows along with all there new piglets actually came back to the barn, i simply just shut the gate and like magic, back to business. From that day forward, my method of pig farming were exactly the way you folks are doing it. Back then, even successful pig farmers said i was crazy!! I'd never do it any differently than the way you folks are doing it!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!

I’m so glad you addressed the negative comments. I often wonder why in the world someone would be so snotty or even take the time to click the thumbs down. Just turn it off! And y’all aren’t the only ones that run to the sound of squealing piglets. I’ve almost broke my fooled neck running to see what’s happening!! If I got all that stuff on video I might get some subscribers!🤣

Thanks for standing your ground! Like I said I am using your model on my gilts we have a large fenced wooded area for them too. I am hoping to have my farrowing process be hands off when we get to that point. Someone replied to me abt saying she should go this guy said “why should she go” I reminded him of her birth AND her post birth behavior being totally inappropriate. I’m a new homesteader but veteran farmers/producers tell me often every animal must contribute to “make it make sense “ I adopted that mantra. PS. My 15 turkey chicks came yesterday 1 down already😷, but I’m encouraged. Thx for being real like I always say!

Every rancher/farmer has to make their OWN decisions about what is best for their own environment and way of raising their animals. People who are not actively involved in YOUR own ranch shouldnt be trying to make decisions for you. We get comments from people that know nothing at all about raising livestock in 9 full months of deep snow and winter conditions. It truly blows my mind. You are both caring for your animals and trying to work the genetics into your herd for what YOU are raising and for your environment. I am 100% behind you!!!

We have had similar results but remember the strong survive and you build upon those not the one's you lost. I have lost more piglets than I have brought to the table, its just the way it is. You battle genetics, weather, gnashing of teeth and satan. So every victory is cherished. Cherish the victories and learn from the challenges.

Sorry you got trolled brother. Still trying to get my gf on board with pasture pigs on our 4900 sq meter Mindanao farm. I want to split the place into one pig shed, attached to six paddocks via hot fence, I wish to rotate the pigs once per week on pasture among the fruit trees and coconuts. I keep telling her that I believe there will be more value in a red meat juicy pig than a pink meat stall raised pig. We have the land. We have the structure to keep off the rain. We will buy the native pig as it is hearty in the Philippines. Also, running the pigs in between the orchards fertilizes our trees. Good luck on your piglets. Thanks.

The good ones show them selves to be ahead of the poor if people would only let them! Reproductive ability should be number one on the traits that you determine who stays and who goes. I bet the people leaving nasty comments don’t even own livestock and don’t know anything about it other than what they see on KZfaq. Everyone has their own way of doing things and what works for 1 may not work for another, so people need to remember if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all. It’s so neat how pigs will nurse piglets that aren’t theirs, wish goats were like that because my goats will head but babies that aren’t theirs and it’s so hard to see that. I was thinking and could be totally wrong but the 1 that lost a bunch I’m wondering if her labor stalled or a baby was stuck so she got up and was walking around to help the process? Just a thought on it.
