Brilliant review. My second favourite book of all time (after The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand). It provides such a great frame from which to perceive the future especially with the dawn of 5G IOT networks and how that may play out. I can't believe this book was written in 97.

Another great book. It could be claimed as pseudo science but I don't think you can argue that the world doesn't run on cycles like the seasons. So why wouldn't there be a macro cycle encompassing the psychology of generations?

Michael - I'd love to see a video about what it takes to "set up" an off shore business. I run a location dependent business here in the US, so I can't move it, but we do purchase from overseas. If I could supply my US entity with things it would give me a foreign company that can eventually lead to residency and maybe even citizenship. Our volume of purchases isn't huge - it would be great to see a video about micro businesses and their uses as well as pros/cons.

@@OffshoreCitizen I've got "The Fourth Turning" by Strauss and Howe on my list, which may be a nice complement to "The Sovereign Individual." I found Angell and Lespering's "Flight of the Golden Geese: How the 1% Matter to the 99%" a good read. Thanks again, Michael!

I feel like the book is a little out of date. The author expected the rise of "offshore competition" where free people can get their choice of many destinations. But it seems like we're living in a "global minimum tax" / "factra" central-banking controlled by the US government kinda world... Opposite of what they predicted.
@worldnomad934
@worldnomad934 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't read it (but just ordered based on the rec in this video. I'd say that the move to a "global minimum tax" world is governments attempt to hold back the tide. By forcing the same tax system globally, it removes the incentive for wealth creators to move and therefore stops or delays the loss of these people and their wealth / contributions. It is the digital era equivalent of the Soviet iron curtain forcing their citizens to not have the choice of democracy/capitalism.

How do people see this book alongside the Great Reset World Economic Forum agenda? Also, when they talk about soveriegn individuals I clearly see John McAfee.
@OffshoreCitizen
@OffshoreCitizen 2 жыл бұрын
I did a video sometime back on The Great Reset It gets pretty misrepresented. This being said the book predicts the rise of nationalism in opposition to globalization prior to the eventual collapse of the nation state. My guess is they'd argue it will fail.
@MayorofMagaluf
@MayorofMagaluf 2 жыл бұрын
@@OffshoreCitizen "The Luddites" the authors refer to, who oppose the collapse of the nation state, I see mapping to the peaceful protesters in Ottawa and to the MAGA voters in America. You just have to look at all the patriotic flags flying in the crowds. What I have been chewing over after listening to this book recently, is how it relates specifically to the political situation in the UK at the moment. The son of one of the authors is Jacob Rees-Mogg, who currently serves in Boris Johnson's cabinet. He is a driver behind the UK leaving the EU. Some think this book explains the thinking of British elites who want to extract the nation state out of the clutches of the continetal welfare state of the EU. I believe that the WEF vision for globalisation is going one way, and the people driving Brexit have their vision of the future described in this book. Both going in different directions, both the end of the nation state. It would explain the huge attempts to oust the PM at the moment and the UK's apparent divergence from the more strict COVID policies being implemented across the world. Great book, though. Spooky to hear how many things they get right. It starts with terrorism by bin laden (years before 9/11) and carries right on to describing the Metaverse.

Canada is not “offshore”
@OffshoreCitizen
@OffshoreCitizen 2 жыл бұрын
We did a video way back when talking about "what is offshore". Offshore is anything outside your country. For most of the world the US is offshore but for Americans it's onshore. If you're saying Canada isn't low tax that's mostly true. If you're saying Canada doesn't cater well to foreign businesses that's also true.
