Thank you so much for this! I am a pale blue eyed lady with reddish brown hair and blue veins, and yet I look hideous in cool tones. I hv ultra pale skin, copper red hair, & green eyes, & I hv warm tones - am sorry, it has always been. I love platunum & silver jewellery, but it doesn't love me nearly as much as the pale yellow gold items do, (though I wear both) I hv to compensate with a lot of warm tones, whenever I wear it. Us reheaded types don't fit the "rules" usually, as many will tell her.🤗💜🙏🇬🇧

@@laurac86 Revolution 1.0 is perfect. Sometimes, during the winter, I mix it with 0.1 or 0.5 - of the same (& I tend to wear tinted moisturiser not foundation, but the foundations colours are the same.) I thin the foundation down with polyglutmic serum, if I wear foundation - but Revolution do right down to 0.1 (& 0.3 is a bit pinky but can be mixed (I like to mix sevl of the concealers under my eyes often, to cancel any darkness.) None of the "veins" thing applies to us, tbh, my veins are blue/purple - but my skin tone is v pale, Celtic & just slightly golden; I mostly use neutral in Revolution, not warm - bc there base products are ALL "slightly golden " - whatever they say! I use 0.1 in Sculpted foundation if that helps, but I used to buy hideously expensive foundation/tinted moisturiser, before I found all these Revolution types of base. (I used to use pale fair - in IT Cosmetics CC if that helps!) - & I hv written a tome here but I know it's a nightmare finding a foundation for us - & espc at High St ie what the U.S call "drugstore" prices 🙏💜🇬🇧💜 (Revolution hv a real range in "mid shades" that you can mix with paler for winter (not that I can ever get a tan, I hv to be careful) but all my friends do this.)

I went to a colour analyst last week and she said the same about the vein test 😂. I had a bad experience last year when a hairdresser insisted that I had warm undertone and gave me a warm blond hair dye. I looked sick! The colour analysis showed I'm a Bright Winter. I feel very confident with bright cool colours 💜

I thought I was in the light palettes, but when I got my analysis I learned I was a soft summer, who could suit a lot of the soft autumn tones, and a couple of the light summer ones. My skin was a lot softer than I imagined. The bad thing was that I realised a lot of my closet has spring colors, but the good thing was that my pinterest board with my dream wardrobe was perfect for my palette. Those were tones I was worried would be too soft for ne, but turned out it was right

I appreciate this so much! I have been told I am Cool by so many random people, because I am light. I kept doubting my eyes, because of blue veins and the red flush under my skin. I’m a strawberry blonde with green eyes and very fair, translucent skin. Because of my pheomelanin and low pigment, the blue and red under my skin do show through. Yet, the pigment that I do have is distinctly warm and bright, with a yellow cast. I wasted so much money on Summer clothes, because people told me I should not be wearing my favorite Spring greens, corals, oranges and yellows! Watching this led me to do a lot of reading and get a professional analysis, which determined my characteristics are Light, Bright and Warm. I now wear Light Spring colors and borrow from Bright Spring. I was wearing too many Autumn colors and am so glad to know the difference! Thanks for the myth-busting. It’s so validating. Now I never have to wear baby blue or dusty rose again!

Fantastic video! Agree, there is a lot of misinformation. And just to add to your list of myths: That you'll automatically be the same palette as your parents. My mum, dad and brother are all summer, so for years I wore cool colours, toned my hair cool. Then I had my analysis done 10 years ago (best $ I've ever spent btw!!) and found out I'm a deep autumn - and the colours I'd been attracted to in my teens eg deep teal, russet red, chocolate brown, were all my best colours all along. I WANTED to look great in black, grey, denim and white, but could never figure out why I looked so lack lustre in them and thought it must be because I wasn't classically pretty. Finding out your palette makes you appreciate your natural looks, as well as make good shopping decisions. :)

I remember back then that all the clothes in my wardrobe are autumn colors(rust, brown, olive, and gold pieces of jewellery) and I always wondered why my clothes feel unnatural to me not until I discovered that I’m a dark winter and that’s my game changer, I can wear just a simple black or purple top with some silver jewellery and I look effortlessly good and glowing, unlike the days where I wear rusty and redish clothes🤍Knowing your seasonal palette is literally a life and money saver💅🏼💜

I am a spring. Had golden blonde as a child. I’m over sixty. The blonde would fade quickly to white. White looks horrid on me. So after much work and searching, my hair is a lovely warm red. Not too dark. Everyone thinks it’s natural. I get comments all the time about being a natural redhead. Like Irish heritage. Like do my children have red hair. Being a spring my hair flows with the colors that have always looked good on me as a golden blonde. You did a great job.

I had my colors done in the 80s and I still use the advice given to this day. I should note that the analyst I had didn’t do the vein check that I can remember. I do recall that we couldn’t wear any makeup and she draped us under more intense lighting. Perhaps the vein analogy is more recent? I also wanted to be a cool season like a winter but I am more of an autumn. Interestingly enough I was gravitating towards those colors in my wardrobe prior to my analysis. Anyway this was very helpful and fun! Thank you

Awesome video :) I have always been confused as to whether I was a warm spring or a true autumn. I have fair skin, but I can tan, (no freckles) teal eyes, and was born with copper-red hair that softened by early childhood into a strawberry blonde - becoming a dark golden (almost honey) blonde by my twenties. But what makes me doubt that I’m a spring is that my coloring - while not completely soft - does not harmonize with the brightness of the spring palette. Bright lipsticks - even warm corals - make me look clownish, while slightly more muted, shaded colors like Brick or cinnamon look amazing. I know I am warm, but I don’t think I am warm and bright. I think I am slightly more muted, and I tend to gravitate towards the autumn colors - the majority of which just seem to work for me. In your opinion, would a warm person most likely be an autumn over a spring if bright colors look garish on them? (Sorry to be long-winded)

Oh you are so right, I have been told so many times by beauty counter consultants that I have a cool skintone, when it fact it is just very light, but neutral to warm in tone. I have been typed as an autumn twice in my life, many years apart. When young, I had very dark, with slight gold tone hair, and very pale skin, but was a deep autumn, my eyes have lightened with age and my hair is lighter, so now am regarded as a warm autumn, those very deep colours no longer suiting me; but I have never been a winter, as most people seem to think when they meet me, as I look ghastly in cool colours. My cousin, by contrast, had the same dark hair, but no gold in it, more ashy and eyes, but slightly olive skintone. Because people saw yellow tones in her skin, they automatically thought she was warm toned, but she in fact looks wonderful in cool pinks, mauves and so on, and cannot wear my warm olives, oranges and turquoise tones at all! I think this proves you have to drape and observe very carefully, as first appearances can be deceptive to the untrained eye.

I think I’m a winter and I had dyed blonde hair for years…but I always kept my jet black natural roots and eyebrows, I couldn’t help it. And I was always confused why it looked so harsh or disingenuous on me. Ash blonde really flatters my actual features but it was so obviously disharmonious on my skin, I had to eventually go darker and darker to get contrast back. So I kind of agree, that light hair is not contrasting enough :/

I too had mine done in the early 90’s. I’m a warm Spring, strawberry blonde (now going my version of grey) with aqua blue/green eyes. Never had the veins checked, but when I look they are a bit like my eyes, blue and green. I have dressed to my palette ever since, cuts the purchasing choices down immeasurably. I do wear cinnamon, terracotta, olive green and jewel based colours with a yellow undertone. I also wear black but make sure it is usually on my lower half. If it is on the upper torso, I add a scarf or an article that is in my palette. I have short hair and invariably wear drop earrings. I have an array of these, a very useful accessory. Definitely a yellow gold girl, silver or white gold looks horrible on me, doesn’t matter what the price tag.

Really good observations here, and thank you for clarifying and correcting some of the myths out there. I had three other videos on my screen before I found this one, and you are spot on with your observations. Some of the others were really giving wrong or at least confusing information. So thanks for clearing some of them up. Oh, and by the way, that green blouse looks lovely on you. The one comment that made me listen up though, is the comment about, there are no blond winter types. I actually think, I have one in my life, and believe me, I was very surprised, when I found that out. I have an adopted child, with Russian / Karelian cultural backgrounds. As a child, white blond, almost platinum color hair, the hair has darkened since, and is now always colored, so I cannot even tell you what it would be these days. Anyhow the celebrity that is most like my kiddo, is probably PINK, the singer. Now, I have no idea what PINK's natural hair color is, but any silver hair or white blond hair tends to look lovely on her, so does any shade of pink she has tried. She wears a lot of black or white and uses a lot of black around her eyes on a regular basis. Whenever I see her in beige or golden at evening events, she looks much more washed out. So, I think it is fair to say, she looks better in blueish colors than yellowish ones. Assuming she is naturally some kind of blond or darkblond, if she cannot be a winter, she would have to be a summer. But somehow, if you look at the summer palates, they are all a bit dusty - grayish, which is not what Pink likes or wears. Now, if you look at the bright winter palate, it has a ton of pink and blue tones in it, and she wears tons of these colors and they look great on her. Without having seen her natural hair color or complexion, it is hard to tell, but if you had asked me, I would have said, she is a 'bright winter'. Now again, the only reason I really care, is because I encountered this surprise in my own family, and I have since settled, for: Well maybe there are some exceptions after all. Just thought, I'd share.

I’m a very fair olive so it’s been tricky. My undertone is neutral cool, I definitely can wear cool, but some of the light spring and soft autumn colors, not the warmest of them. I don’t look my best in the true warm colors but the cooler versions in the warmer palettes I can pull off depending on the value and intensity. I’m medium pretty much all the way around so anything close to that middle I can wear.

I loved this video. I was especially relieved to dismiss those vein color misconceptions, because they confused me so much and yet I have until now seen a hundred videos where it is mentioned as a valid method. I belong to winter palette, fair skin, dark hair, green eyes that stand out, with green veins... mostly. However, the thing where you mentioned that the color palette doesn't really change with years had me wondering about that and my mom. Based on the pictures that we have when she was 20 years old, she was a winter with features almost identical to mine - cool dark hair, fair skin with rosy cheeks, green eyes. That all changed more than 30 years later. She did change her hair color to honey blond, but her skin tone also took an overall warm and darker tone, so it is identical with her hair color now. Her eyes don't stand out as much and her overall contrast is low. Maybe her exposure to the sun did something to her skin? Maybe she still is a winter posing as spring?

Could just be that her hair colour is washing her out (if dyed as it will influence the appearance of the skin). Hard to know without seeing her or knowing of her initial analysis is correct. But, people don’t jump from one palette to the next.

It's interesting you mention hair and adding warmth into hair for those with warm undertones. I've only recently started doing this as in the past most of the brown/blonde shades I've gone with cooler, ashier tones which I've found to be quite popular amongst Asian hair colouring. From a cultural point of view though, there are Asians like that like to appear fairer so perhaps choosing a cooler tone for one's hair contrasts with the skin to make it appear paler which culturally some people prefer. Lots of food for thought!

Culture is something to consider with clients in their final result and what someone would like to do with hair colour (as, of course, what they want matters most). For me, I’ve found that many hairstylists add the opposite of someone’s colouring, though in an attempt to “warm them up” (if they have cool skin) or because they are following the wrong vein theory I mentioned earlier. Lots of nuances!

Great video and very correct. The vein theory comes from makeup artists, they believe warm goes with warm and cold with cold. But honestly, the only "balanced" tone is the neutral one. So, often those with cold skin tone actually look more vivid in warm brights, and vice versa.

I'm a natural red head and everyone told me to wear orange and brown but even if I look good in them, I'm also going for bright color like fuschia, purple and lime green. Since I stopped dyeing my hair, it has changed what colors work on me. My hair is lighter and much cooler. People think my brown ends are auburn in contrast with the gray. Some clothing that used to wash me out is now now flattering. Some colors still work and others don't. I know that both my skin and hair are somewhere on the neutral spectrum, but cannot figure out if i am maybe olive, or lean cool or warm. I'm also not sure about intensity and value. I think trends and colors I love confuse me too.

I’m a winter! Bright obnoxious jewel tone that I thought were hideous made me glow! I got compliments from strangers. People came up to me to tell me I looked so much healthier, relaxed, etc. No one knew it was the colors. They guessed I’d gotten a haircut or lost weight. It is SO much easier planning wardrobes. If you haven’t had your colors done, just do it!

Hi Christie, I have light warm skin and used to be a warm blond. I'm now 60 and grey. I stopped dyeing my hair around 5 years ago. Hair is a warm grey at back, but the front just looks white now. I think I'm probably wearing wrong colours in clothing. I like grey, navy, light to medium blue. I convinced myself that that these colours are ok on me now as my hair is so light. Any advice on bringing light warm colours into my wardrobe to work with grey and navy without having to get rid of my current clothes?

Based on the analysis I do, it is not possible for a natural blonde to be a soft autumn. Could be why all of the hair colours in your swatches are dark. Could be based on a system I don’t use, but based on mine, it wouldn’t be possible.

Back in the 80s, I had an analysis with Beauty for All Seasons and they typed me a Contrasting Autumn Panache. My hair was darker then, hence the contrasting part. And the Panache part is "Beautiful brown hair with golden or red highlights combines with the many colors of blue-green eyes-steel-gray, turquoise, azure. or gray. Skin tones are clear peachy-pink, golden beige, or suntanned" Anyway, I may have faded to a Soft Autumn..🤷‍♀️ I was a warm blond as a toddler until around 7 and my hair gradually became medium reddish brown.

some women get confused by sallow skin, thinking it is yellow undertone but no. And yes most olive skin is winter. And those not so deep with misleading sallow skin (like my mother) are mostly summers. And YES so many women dying their hair the wrong colour so they have to pile on the makeup to compensate - making things worse!!!

Winters & Springs both have clear, bright colors in the palettes so it's understandable that you would be drawn to those jewel tones. Plus, they are the most common fashion colors especially for business & evening attire. I am a Spring too, originally analyzed as an Autumn during a class at an Adult Ed Center which is what I thought I was based on the color analysis literature of the time. I used to wear a lot of Summer shades too since I liked purples & blue-greens. I just preferred softer, faded out colors for a long time. My mother who was a Winter, used to yell at me about not wearing any color but I knew I couln't wear her colors--fuscia, deep cool reds, deep navy blue & sapphire looked horrible on me but I could wear just about any shade of brown/tan or green or rust/peach & receive compliments. I was so surprised when I had my colors done professionally & was given a customized swatch sample at how many shades of blue & pink were included. I had avoided pink & blue as an Autumn. Now I realize the Autumn palette was a little too strong/muted for me & I love the Warm Spring Palette I was given. And yes, if you are fair/pale with any redness in your skin, people assume you have a cool undertone. I have noticed that when I wear colors that are too cool or muted makes my skin look very yellow or "muddy"---by contrast. Best to keep those away from my face :) Spring colors are more difficult to find in general. I danced with joy when Brown came back "in" & I could finally find a coat that wasn't black or grey...

What about a tan? My skin is very neutral and pale in the winter and when I get tan, which I do quite easily as a pale person, I am soooo yellow brown. The bright colors I wear in the summer would look awful on my winter self and the more muted colors that flatter me in winter look very flat in summer. Am I imagining things?

I’ve just been professionally analyzed as a Summer. Who knew? I now know the colors were too bright. Black and white are too harsh. Now I don’t need lots of makeup. So glad I had it done.
