This shows one way to make a two-part "push mold" from silicone putty. Since each half cures in under 30 minutes, a mold can be made in around an hour. From this mold, copies can be made using Apoxie Sculpt, Sculpey, Play-Doh, 2-part Epoxy Putty, and more.

Hello Crafsman. Thank you for the video and the update on the button in the last video. I read the comments and can assure you that your video uploads cause happy celebrations that go all across the world. Speaking of across the world, I know of a reusable mold putty called Oyamaru that you can get at a dollar (100 yen) store in Japan. You boil it in water to soften it, make a mold, and then boil it again to reuse it. Here’s hoping your putty is just as impressive and you can just boil it too.

A tip for making an even better petroleum jelly mold release is to dissolve a scoop into a bit of naphtha so that it’s nice and running and paint that on with a chip brush and dab access off. I use that for hand molds where spray mold release doesn’t get all the way down. It’s the best and cheapest silicone mold release.

My grandfather, Dada as we all called him...used to drive us all up to the lake on the ol' dirt road sittin' in the bed of his little white Ford F-150 pick up truck. Roller coatser rides we called them, as he would swerve and slow down and speed up while me a my cousins slid around dangerously in the back ^^ Oh, the days! He always had a nasty ol' pepsi bottle sat between his legs for spittin his chewin tobacco into. Not sure what brand it was but just hearin' you talk about your grandfather chewin' his certainly brought me back there.

We used to do that all the time. In fact, if it was a bunch of us cousins involved, we'd pretty much HAVE to ride in the back of the truck to get us all to the creek. If you're not too concerned with keeping the original mould lines (or as close to them as possible), something that I learned a long time ago from working with miniatures is that you can take them off quickly and with a smooth finish by using the back edge (the one that was never sharp) of a hobby knife, like an x-acto, and scraping the lines off. A little difficult to illustrate with text, but when you're doing it the motions make it look like you're skinning a very tiny potato. The finish is smooth, as I said, and needs no sanding, although there can be a little bit of plastic residue, particularly at angles. If you encounter that, you can either use the sharp side of the blade to clear it off, or a little bit of acetone on a q-tip to rub it off.
