There's no longer a need to divide the measured diameter by 2, you can just enter it as-is and press "A" - this will set X0 to -D/2

last year I considered Rocketronics and Clough42 ELS products. Rocketronics was similar to a CNC control (linuxCNC, Acorn, Masso). The Clough42 ELS couldn't be purchased in one place. In the end, i chose to convert the machine to CNC. However, if your ELS had been available, I would have purchased it. I think it is priced well for the hobby market. Your store and branding and videos are all on-point. The only thing I don't understand is the plastic on the carriage. I tried it myself and it worked well except that the PLA creeps, so I had to tighten the lead screw frequently. As a prototype, it's excellent but metal would be better.

Hi @neffk, thank you. I didn't notice significant creep on my recent prints but perhaps my conditions are different, which model / bearings did you use? With axial bearings the load is spread evenly - it's also possible to print with 100% infill further minimizing the creep. However, a metal motor mount is indeed in order, thank you for advise :) How do you produce GCode for your CNC lathe? Wonder if kachurovskiy.github.io/lathecode/ could be useful one day.

I ordered one a month ago, working on the steppers and mount. Can't wait to try it out . Thank you for your work on this project.

Great job Maxim, congratulations. I have been putting it together and finally were able to cut a thread. However, I am having a problem with the steppers making a high frequency noise after a couple of minutes of working. At the begining I thought it was a failure related to the cheap stepper drivers I am using, however, after a while of troubleshooting, the issue was found in the controller which I have to reset it everytime it happens. It works well and fast for another 2 to 5 minutes before I have to reset it again. I tested also your first version of the ELS with the Arduino Nano but this ESP32 is much better.

Rodrigo, sorry about that. I will look into this problem, can you please post a video of this happening on GitHub or mail me a link to m.kachurovskiy@gmail.com?

Great job Maxim you got it !! I have tested H4V7 twice for a couple of hours and did not fail. Thanks a lot for your support.

What tools do you favour using with this now? I saw I video I think it was yours getting really good finishes using a parting tool for facing. But with the CNC control you could use that tool for so many things like facing, parting cutting chamfers, cutting domes etc

Really any 20mm tool that happens to be already loaded 😄 Parting tool is very universal, yes.

Any tips on calibration of the backlash and lead screw steps im having trouble getting mine exactly dialed in
@MaximKachurovskiy9 ай бұрын
Sadly the backlash is usually different on different parts of the lead screw - most work is done near the chuck and backlash is largest there. The usual method for backlash calculation is placing an indicator on the tool post, moving it using the controller a bit in one direction, zeroing, moving 1mm in another direction. Backlash then equals 1mm minus absolute indicator value.

Hello how can i purchase the encoder mount, your site says its sold out when you go to pay?
@MaximKachurovskiy7 ай бұрын
Hi Chris, please reach out via m.kachurovskiy@gmail.com and we'll figure it out, encoder mount is probably available free of charge as a file for 3D printing
