@@Faceoff1984 Probably riding 8/10's perhaps 9/10's sometimes. Car probably similar 9/10's pace under brakes and through turns but giving it the stick on the straights. The rider was sitting calm and riding smooth, well within his and the bike's limits. The driver also, being the Ring Taxi, with a passenger would hold off a bit but still going relatively quick. Mr V4 wasn't fighting for his life and has done a very good job of surviving long term fast bike riding by riding sensibly, Fast but sensible.. You don't get to middle age by being an on-the-edge hero riding a superbike, especially with very fast mixed traffic like on a Ring Tourist Day.

@droceretik 5 жыл бұрын
@@benjamincs1 Probably both in fast cruise mode about 8/10 IMO. Bear in mind crashing on a bike at the ring is not good for the health. The ring taxi is carrying passenger/s so is probably holding back on mid corner speed and late braking. Crashing also would be bad for the car and potentially for the occupants but not as dire as crashing the bike of course. Taxi probably gets better economy and longer tyre life by driving at 7 or 8/10ths and maybe passengers may tend to vomit (:. This is not a race, just a nice video on tourist day demonstrating how quick bikes are in a straight line and how corner speed is not that different at high speed but the car's braking and mid corner speed on slow and medium turns is superior. That is generally what I have found out over the years. A car with reasonable performance driven well by a competent driver will catch a bike on winding slow and medium speed sections, heavy braking on short straights into numerous tight bends, rapid change of direction in S bends and acceleration out of slow turns in slippery conditions. Any straight longer than 100 metres and it's bye bye superbike. It depends on the lengths of straights and the exit speed onto straights as to if the bikes straight line performance negates the cars advantage under brakes and through turns. We are talking high performance road vehicles here, not Le mans slick shod, winged race cars that people tend to bring up in these discussions about performance road cars and bikes.

Pay attention you people that say that fast cars will ALWAYS beat fast bikes around the ring. Fast road bikes ridden by good riders will be competitive with fast road cars driven by good drivers as this video clearly demonstrates. The consequences for crashing are higher so not many riders have the commitment, skills and consistency to push their bikes to the limit and this guy on the Dacati was not on the limit, more like 8 or 9 tenths. Maybe the BMW wasn't on the limit as well. Those sub-7 minute full circuit car lap times are with sharply honed factory cars with a team of factory mechanics. Most showroom supercars and superbikes driven and ridden by skilled owners would be proud to beat 8 minutes BTG. Motorcycles haven't raced at the Ring officially for nearly 25 years. Motorcycle manufacturers are never involved with attempting record ring times. Nearly all bike laps are on tourist days with mixed traffic. Kawasaki had a promotional lap of 7.50 by Tim Rothig which was foolishly claimed as a record by whom? I don't know. Helmut Dahne still has the production bike record at about 7.49 for the full circuit. It was with a Honda RC30 750 V4! This is way, way behind the performance of current bikes such as BMW 1000RR, Yamaha R1 etc. Brendan, on a rebuilt, crashed Yamaha R1, has a video which shows about 7.10 for a BTG. Nurburgring is just too dangerous for bikes but professional riders of the caliber of John McGuinness, Bruce Anstey and Michael Dunlop on current production superbikes, would push 6.50 for the full circuit IMO. For example, Mark Higgins, former British Rally Champion, in a 600 hp Prodrive Subaru WRX, lapped 35 seconds slower than the fastest producton bike. That was in a highly modded and lightened race car with nearly 3 times the power of the stock car. Two years earlier, in a lightly modded production WRX, he lapped over 2 minutes slower than the production bike times. Mark Higgins was born on and lives on the Isle Of Man and knows the circuit like the back of his hand.

Great comment. A RC30 750 compared to a 1000cc new bike is a dinossaur!!!! And tires are much much better now. No doubt that 7.49 would be smashed by a lot!

@janludwikkotowski
@janludwikkotowski 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly and also bike producers know that a record attempt is pure stupidity - crash on a track like Nurbrugring brings ultra high death risk for rider, while nova days crashing with a correctly equipped car (rollcage, race belts, fire extinguisher system etc.) usually might mean some bruises and maybe few broken bones.

Apex taxi drivers are some of the best...indeed moritz kranz who frequently drives the m3 has numerous cup and Nuremberg 24hr wins.. @gerardpcollins 5 жыл бұрын
Much respect to this rider. He obviously has major skills. But with that said cars hold every lap record on every race track in the world (Road course, Drag strip, Oval, Rally course, Land speed etc.). Cars don't compete on the Isle of Man. A race prepped Subaru is hardly the ideal car to go around the Isle of Man because it's a top speed circuit. A raced prepped 911 GT2 or better yet a full blown race car like the Porsche 919 Tribute would be a better choice to set the lap record for that track. I love bikes and I love cars. No bias here just stating the truth.

Traction Control (TC). If you didn't see it flash, you wouldn't even know it was working - it's that good. In 'Street' mode, it has a default higher setting than 'Race' (as in, more intrusive), but again in practice, you won't feel it. When you see it flashing when bike goes over a bumpy part of track, it's just because of the brief 'unloading' of the back wheel - totally, totally normal. Only time I even think about it is if the road is wet - then I'll have it (and every other nanny!) full on. On normal, shorter tracks, then you start playing with it at the other end, as it will allow a bit of controlled sliding. This sounds far freakier than it really is - and first time it happens, it does tend to lead to a bit of a 'brown leather' moment, as you realise you are NOT Dovi or Davies, and should NOT be sliding the @rse of your £24k baby, but once you get used to it, you then learn how much to use and where best to use it - you even begin to start playing with it, it's THAT good! Funny enough, though World Superbikes have TC like production machines, British Superbikes aren't allowed it, so probably only race series on planet that the race versions are 'dumbed down' from their road brethren (though clearly, BSB bikes have plenty of other attributes about them to more than compensate! Haha! ;)

Love the patience- I have seen to many riders and drivers in person and on youtube think they are in some sort of championship and force past a slower car or bike, theres just no need and will only risk a crash of either party or both. Honest good riding and very curious and SAFE here. I had a E30 M3 nearly wipe me out twice then he crashed into the armco from stupidity and driving way to aggressive- made a real mess of his pride and joy and he didn't look a hero in the carpark on the back of the ring flatbed and guess didn't smile much as he got the bill from the ring for the damage he caused and the recovery costs.

lmfao yea but he was behinde another car and lost ground you need to build speed to gain if this was a longer satright you would have seen the difference.. Its like on aa reular track if you race a 600cc and you are on a 1000CC then the 600cc has a perfect exit corner speed and acceelration then you come 5meters behinde (in the vid it was ALOT more then 5 meters lkol)) and fuck your exit acceleartion the 600cc is gone and you will never cath him trust me I KNOW before the main stright is done even on a 700-800M straight no BS.. you will gain but then its time to go on the brakes casue you are on a 1000cc and need to brake earlier becasue of the sheer speed difference.. DO YOU GET IT???? ALso this is the BORSI BMW M3 whcih has 525rwhp soo its not a slouch still 500whp in a car vs a 1000cc bike HAHAHAHA thats even easier kill then a 600cc vs 1000cc race..

It's a myth that 1000cc bikes will outperform a 600cc bike on a track. The time difference on a circuit (Unless it's just long straights) with decent enough corners will be tenths of a second. Sometimes a 600 would be faster too, it's lighter, more agile and you can carry a whole lot more speed into the corners on a 600. Murtario might struggle with a bigger bike.
@fetzie

Not true. Take Phillip Island for example. Best Lap on a MotoGP bike -> 1'27.899, Best Lap on a Moto2 bike -> 1'32.470. Thats almost 5 seconds faster on 1000cc, on a 4.4km track. The Nordschleife has a shit ton of straights and it's around 20km so thats even a bigger time difference. @@iUsman975

So sad this bike shows mph. I didn't properly understand the speed. Anyway I saw 181 mph which is around 292 Kph. I any case bikes'grip is much more critical than cars'one. And even Nurburgring is for bikes because for many reasons so tipically cars are fasters here (not always of course). In a more traditional (let's say modern) circuit in ideal conditions last sports bikes are as competitive as supercars on lap time and most times fasters for what I saw personally. Not mentioning formulas. That's another world
@droceretik
@droceretik 5 жыл бұрын
I found it difficult to understand your sentences. Perhaps it would be better if you use more full stops and put distinct ideas into separate sentences. I don't think it is sad to see MPH on the speedometer because I am in Australia. They used MPH until the 1980's I think. Then they changed to kph and the metric system for everything else as well. So automatically I can convert the speed in my brain and associate the figure with exactly how fast it is in KPH. I don't even convert mathematically in my head. I know instinctively what the numbers mean as a rider or driver and the physical and visual sensations those speeds create.
@tonyfranklin8306

@@droceretik Thankfully still using mph/miles here in the UK but there's a bloody big sway to metric particularly at the supermarkets were it all has to be in metric and we went to litres instead of gallons 30 years ago. I ride a pushie (as you Australians call it) fairly seriously and I'd never change to km though can like yourself easily convert, luckily was taught both metric and imperial at school.
