How to get from the airport to the city centre in Prague? Quick, easy and cheap option. Use public transport, take bus 119 to Nádraží Veleslavín, transfer to metro and 8th stop is Můstek. Buy and validate (!) a ticket. 90 minutes ticket costs 1.2 EUR, you can pay by card, don't change money at the airport. More in the video.

Janek maybe pin this: Just an update if anyone is reading this - the 119 bus was replaced by a trolleybus number 59. Which has a larger capacity and is electric. It also travels to and from Nádraží Veleslavín. Be sure to also take the 59 back to the airport, not the 119, which will leave you somewhere in the middle of the way there.

@tocov

@@lsrod79 Yes. Line 59 takes you to Nadrazi Veleslavin just like in the video. It's just that bus 119 does not reach the airport anymore. Be sure to not go on it on your way back either, because you will be left somewhere in the middle.

Can I just say I really appreciate the level of clear detail you have gone into in this video. I am autistic and planning to come to Prague next week on my first ever solo trip. I can get overwhelmed with situations where I'm not in control or there are a lot of unknowns. This completely erases my fears about getting from A to B using the public transport in a language I am not familiar with. So really, thank you!

My son is too. And I agree, because I don’t have a lot of experience with trains and metro (bus part seems easy) I usually mess it up and feel stressed. His directions are so good and seem easy to follow. If I just had one short flight within Europe to get to Prague, I would probably give it a shot!

"Stand on the Right, Walk on the left" is the same as in London. Onetime, a woman was standing on the left of the escalator - so I did what any Londoner would do, charging down the left side, right up to the step behind, and said "Oi! Darlin! Stand on the Right, OK". She turned round and said "I've only got one arm!" - Yup, no right arm! I have never felt so small

My sister, who was born without a left hand, had this issue years ago in Disney World. They used to stamp your left hand with glow in the dark ink so that you could ride the monorail all day without having to dig out your ticket again. She would present her right hand, and they'd gently tell her they needed her left hand. She would then present her rounded left arm stump and they would somewhat sheepishly tell her they would stamp her right hand instead.

One important note, though: while you normally validate your ticket once you board your bus/tram, at the airport you actually have to validate right there at the stop, BEFORE you board. This was instituted back in 2018 to nudge visitors to not forget (or "forget") to validate. Once you cross the line on the ground, you can actually be subject to ticket inspections. It's clearly written in English on the signs right at the ticket machines.
@zork999
@zork999 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the sign at 1:50 clearly shows 1) Buy the ticket, 2) Validate the ticket, *then* 3) Get on the bus.
@beingasanocean8066
@beingasanocean8066 2 жыл бұрын
What a shitty rule, I've never actually seen those signs. Why would you do that? But what if I buy my ticket and step back behind that line like I am not at the bus stop at all and not waiting for the bus? Or if I do not buy the ticket before bus arrives and stand near the ticket terminal without the ticket?
@jurajkovac8507
@jurajkovac8507 2 жыл бұрын
@@beingasanocean8066 It's an extension of a concept already used on the metro, the "fare area". Once you step over the line, it's as if you already boarded a vehicle and you can be subject to ticket inspection. Airport T1 & T2 are the only bus stops to use this, precisely because many people would board the bus without a ticket. This way, you can be checked as soon as you cross the line. There's no gotcha really, it's very clearly signposted and all the machines are in front of the white line. Nowadays you can't even buy a ticket on the bus anyway, so it's not like you're missing out here.
@IoT_
@IoT_ 2 жыл бұрын
@@jurajkovac8507 I'm sorry, but I was in Prague one month ago and I bought the tickets from the bus driver directly. What do you mean by saying that you cannot buy tickets on board?
@siriusczech
@siriusczech 2 жыл бұрын
@@IoT_ During covid times drivers didn´t open front doors, nor had you any chance of buying a ticket from them. And, besides all, even if it is possible now, tickets from drivers are about 20% more expensive, so buy them beforehand - preferably from the machines. You can buy multiple tickets at once and store them, they do not expire until you validate them in those yellow machines ;)

Jump the 119 I think it is and then into the metro right to the centre, it's then very easy to get a tram to your hotel or even walk to it. We just returned from Prague, and this video was PERFECT. You describe everything and there were no surprises. We were so comfortable because of your video we bought 3-day tickets and took the busses and trams all over the city. Thank you for this helpful video.

These are excellent city guides that you have done. They are the best I've ever seen. Details, but uncomplicated or tedious. Well done, oh and by the way: It's been years since I was there, but I love Prague! Everyone should go there at least once in their life. Best regards from Stockholm!

WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT CHANGE YOUR MONEY IN ANY EXCHANGE OFFICES BEING PRESENT AT PRAGUE'S AIRPORT !!! OR ATM, AS JANEK SAIS, BIIIIIG RIPP OFF !!! Public transport is a great and easy way to get to the city center, and most probably all the way to your hotel!!!

@@sheanthesheep8816 Exchange.cz, corner of Kaprova ulice 14/13 and just a stone's throw (150 m?) from the Old Town Square (Staromestske namesti), guaranteed best exchange rates in town!!! If you're not in the neighborhood or can't get there, check out their rates online so you'll at least get some guide lines and can than compare. I guess banks are also ok, although I don't think their rates are nowhere near the Exchange's ones! Than it also depends of course how much money you intend to change, if very, very small amounts, than it is of course maybe not worth tinkering with, but bigger amounts give you clear plus!!! Check it out and compare, you' ll see!!!

@@sheanthesheep8816 You don‘t need to exchange money, if you have a credit card. My credit card has not the best conditions regarding fees, but it was still cheaper to pay everything by credit card than getting money at an ATM(a real one, not something like Euronet) or exchange booth. I was in Prague for 5 days and never had a single banknote or coin in my pockets. Looking back, this is how I should have done this most prior vacations as well. This might not apply if you plan on getting a significant amount of money in cash or your credit card conditions really bad, for me this threshold is around 340€.

Good one @HONEST GUIDE. It would also be amazing if you could explain the night buses that take you from the airport to the city center, as many of the flights right now arrive very late in the night. I did research myself as my flight will arrive on monday at 22:30 when there's no 119 + metro. Thanks!

another nice KZfaq video. I love Prague because in my childhood I played a lot of Czech marches with my band. by the way, many music bands still play pochods and polkas on the street here in the Netherlands. This is how you bring Czech culture to the Netherlands. These marches were bought in Prague. This way Prague and Czech Republic is world famous in the marching music world.

1:33 When I told my parents this, they were rather shocked, and when my parents told their colleagues at work, they were shocked as well. Lucky I'm a railfan, otherwise they probably wouldn't have known until it was too late 3:09 And if you validate your ticket again after you've already validated it, you *render it invalid* (from the PID's website) And do we have to hold an arm out for the bus to stop? Here in the UK, you have to do it, otherwise the bus won't stop (seemingly even at the terminus, from my own experience).

Number 3: You must make a gesture to halt a bus when you are on request only stops (zastávka na znamení). There are not many of them in city centre, but they are common in suburban area. There was a debate if all suburban stops in PID system should be request only, but it wasn't adopted in the end.

Guys, since you are starting new, it might be an opportunity to add something interesting except "Czech word at the end" into the videos. References, clues of some kind... or fragments of a puzzle that you would only solve if you watched all the upcoming videos... Just a suggestion.
