Agreed, I went to this race a few years back and had a blast. It's a shame it doesn't bring more fans out. IT'S INDYCAR, MAN! You can really feel the power to the ground as these cars whiz by at 220+.

This car and this type of racing is fine for every track except Indy. I get that they don't want pack racing with multiple racing lines, but Indy only has 1 line. It's single file racing, the previous car made it so the cars could race each other at the front. This car doesn't allow racing at the front at Indy and that's bad.

Last year's cars were beautiful. This year's cars are very slick looking, but I personally think the big decrease to down force is a shame.

I might be mistaken, but I feel that all the clamoring that last year's car was ugly may have been a very vocal minority....

Superspeedway kit didn't do much, better than indy 500 but still. I think it needs more downforce and drag like the 2002-2011 one
@jackcowie25636 жыл бұрын
No, pack racing needs to be avoided, it's crazy dangerous.
@homeperson112446 жыл бұрын
Jack Cowie no not that kind a pack, a kind like what you saw in 2008 one, sure the 2002 car produce some crazy finishes but the nature of the car it is very dangerous. Also oval track had it's charm when there's a pack race rather than single file race.

Hi All! New to Indy Car! Why are oval tracks still prevalent over road and street tracks? Why aren't there more road/street tracks in Indy Car? Isn't it just logical that road/street tracks are more challenging than oval tracks? There are no chicanes, hairpin turns, etc. Curious to know. Thank you!
@youngders5746 жыл бұрын
DaveWBK the Indy 500 would be a big reason. But only 1/3 of the season is spent on ovals. Plus I like the idea of having multiple disciplines to test the cars and drivers.
@Quintinohthree6 жыл бұрын
DaveWBK They aren't. There are currently 11 races on 10 road and street courses compared to only 6 races on ovals. As for road and street courses being more challenging, I think that thinking gravely underestimates the challenge of either discipline. If this were time attack, where you get just the one lap to set the best time, then perhaps, but here that only determines the starting grid. This is racing, which means you have to deal with a whole lot more things. The conditions on track change because temperatures change, rubber is put down, dirt builds up. Your car changes as your tires degrade, the air density changes and your downforce goes with it and you lose fuel so you get lighter over a stint. Then there's strategy, how long can you stay out untill the next stop, how much speed can you maintain and still keep your fuel consumption down, how hard can you push the tires. All this while you are side by side on track at high speeds. Yes, the tracks may seem superficially simple, but the speeds are so much higher and because of that a lot of details become more important. Minor irregularities become major bumps. And you run far more laps than any road or street course so although the number of corners may be small, you do go through them an awefully large number of times. Heck, did you know that to finish the Indy 500 you have to make more turns than to finish the Austrian Grand Prix? Add to that the amplification of any mistakes you make by the speeds you run and how close you are to a wall, and I think you get my point. And above all that, several drivers are simply scared of racing ovals, and among those that aren't, those that try often struggle to compete. That can't be because oval racing is so easy.

Listen pal I love all of indycar. I've being going to the Indy 500 my whole life, which is the greatest race ever. Just wanted to answer a simple question.

Boring dud of a race just as Tony Kanaan forecasted. Watch last year's Fast Forward of this race and compare it to this year's. I dare you not to fall asleep watching this year's race. No more outside groove with only single groove racing. No more side by side racing with mostly all single file racing. A big step backwards for IndyCar racing at TMS.
@Leuel48Fan6 жыл бұрын
I attended both races in '17 and '18, couldn't agree more. They ruined the race package, the new cars don't race competitively at all. We saw it both at Indy and TMS this year.
@OSUCherokee16 жыл бұрын
I was at both races as well. Last year was the race that got me and my friend hooked on Indycar. I went back this year expecting the same or more and was a bit let down. It's a tough call. The driver's loved this year's race. It was all about true skill and strategy. I have to respect that. But as a fan in the stands; it was very dull. I think Indycar will fine tune the cars and bring back a little more wing next year.
