This video is a voiceover review of the new suspension recently installed on my 2014 Yamaha FZ-09 naked motorcycle. The front fork is an Andreani Misano drop in cartridge kit and the rear shock has been upgraded to a K-Tech Razor-R Lite unit. This is a first ride review and initial impression from a rider's perspective on how the aftermarket suspension is an improvement over the stock Yamaha equipment. If you enjoy watching the motorcycle related content on this channel be sure to Subscribe and Like this video today. Thanks for watching!

I cannot agree with you more on the rear shock. Now you've got me wanting to get the forks done as well. Liked the voice over, nice touch! I've got a new front tire on order (worn out on the sides). Dunlop Q3+. Keep the video's coming. Can't wait for the next one. Ride safe bro...

The K-Tech shock is legit. It's really, really good. You may as well complete the bike and get the forks done. It's worth it. Thanks for the feedback on the voiceover, trying something different. Speaking of the Q3s I plan to do a video soon talking about the difference of the Pirelli Supercorsa SP V2 compared to the Dunlops. Thanks for watching and ride safe, and enjoy riding that new K-Tech shock.

Great job Derek. I like the voice over. I can attest to that road being bumpy as hell near the end but a super fun road for sure. I have very similar impressions of the upgraded suspension. On the front, brake dive is so much less. I have the same springs but run less compression than baseline for a bit more movement under braking (at the track) for the type of trail braking I like to do. I am so impressed with how much deeper and with confidence you can brake with the fork kit. (steel brake lines and good pads help too). The rear shock is almost even more impressive for me as well. Gone is all the unasked for wheelies when trying to drive out of a corner (it will still wheelie like crazy though) Such an improvement in rear feel and overall composure. Better tire wear patterns and longevity as well. It pains me that I missed out last weekend. Hopefully soon. VIR in October I believe also.

Another really good video. Glad I discovered this channel. I've got a '17 FJ-09 I'm getting ready to upgrade with a K Tech Razor as well as Race Tech .95 springs for the front. Hoping it makes a big difference as well. Your videos on the K Tech helped me decide to go with this unit. Thanks for posting !

Thanks so much for the review! 2015 FZ09 here, and plan on some suspension changes as well. Love your videos in general, but I think they'd be even more enjoyable with the camera up higher (GoPro mounted on your helmet's chin, for example). Right now it feels kinda claustrophobic; you can't see the road or scenery as well because the camera is down so far in the bike, and the main view is the gas tank and speedo. Just a thought. Thanks for posting these!

Hey thanks for the great feedback. Awesome to hear you ride an 09' The suspension really changes the handling characteristics of the bike and it's easier to ride with the aftermarket kit installed. I have considered running a chin mount on my spare helmet. I do not want that mounted on my AGV Corsa. I will play around with some different options and may run a different mount on a few rides. Thanks for watching and really appreciate you checking out the channel. Ride safe.

Bought my 2020 xsr900sp and ran it in. Noticed the front springs were too light and the rear shock a bit stiff. Readjusted them and found they still squirrel around under load in and out of corners. Does not like my 250lb weight. Thanks for the vid. Will upgrade with a similar set up for my weight.

I know the stock bike squats a lot under hard launch, being so wheelie prone as a matter of geometry and stock squat. How did the improved valving and proper springs help with putting power down? Did the wheelie nature tone down some? Also have you considered installing a steering damper?

Hey Derek, have you ever felt the need to get a steering damper? Btw, I love the voiceover!
@fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 6 жыл бұрын
Awesome, thanks for the great feedback. This bike could benefit from a steering damper. The main reason is that the stock shock wants to squat under hard acceleration and that makes the front end get really light when the weight shifts to the rear wheel. But since I installed the new K-Tech rear shock, when you get on the throttle the bike just hooks up and the tendency to squat is eliminated so the need for the damper is not as great. However, some of the roads we ride in the mountains can get really bumpy so I have not ruled out the purchase of a damper in the future. The voiceover is something new and I may try a few more on future videos. Thanks for watching the channel and ride safe.

The suspension upgrade i can fully understand it just makes such a big difference, but riding barely street legal hypersport track day tires while going this medium to fastish street pace makes no sense to me tbh. You would be better of with a normal "sport" tire like a diablo rosso 3 or even an agressive "sport-touring" tire like an angel gt or Conti Road Attack 3, at least for pure street riding.
@fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 7 жыл бұрын
Appreciate you checking out the channel watching the video. This is a set of tires I had run from a trackday. I typically run Q3s on the street but if the weather is warm these are hands down a better tire than the Dunlops. The second difference between these tires and anything you mentioned is not only the grip level but the tire profile is better for mountain riding. I do zero commuting on this bike so I would rather have excellent grip, mileage and wet weather riding are not something I am concerned with. I checked out your channel but it looks like you don't have any uploaded videos, you ride an FZ09?

ya, i just bought the new 2017 model, but im not a "youtuber"/video producer just a rider and video consumer. I am so happy with the engine, frame, brakes and the hooligan seating position of the FZ-09 but im not really satisfied with the suspension. I am getting a fully adjustable damper, individually build for my weight (im heavy ^^), at the 600 mile inspection in 4 days... so excited ! I'm from Germany and our "windy" roads are much windier and narrower with a lot of small corners. Therefore you are doing a lot of lean angle while going not all that fast, even the small bumps upset the fz-09 in that corners a lot ! That is why i watched your video to get some input how a suspension upgrade might change the bike. For an example of a german "canyon road" see: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fMl2gKWn0aymcWg.html If you get the chance try a Continental Road Attack 3 its such a great tire for really agressive street riding.

Fast Fz09 - looking to upgrade my suspension to the same set up you have Andreani cartridge and K tech rear shock. How would you rate the transformation on your bike ? Ok, good, very good or excellent? I have a 2016 model and ride similar back roads as yourself. Trying to find a good upgrade path.

Just done this and it’s very good if not excellent so worth it you feel the bike is on rails going round corners you feel the road and you know exactly what is happening with the bike the tyres. Amazing seriously

Do you feel like it's too sporty now? Meaning stiff and harsh feeling? My sport bikes were nice, but hit a bump and damn. My mt09 feels nice, bit a bit mushy. I dont wanna turn it into sport bike stiff. If that makes sense. Lol.

I'm 155 in gear and can bang the front forks off the stops far more easily than i would like, it's the complete lack of rebound dampening that kills it the most though... Rides like a wallowy bag of sheet.
