Something light, quick and simple - just how you ought to be knocking out huge hordes of zombies!
Instead of painstakingly considering every possible colour combination, just grab a handful of paints that look about right for everyday clothing, one or two outliers for eye-catching appeal, and trust that between your primer colour and a little extra work for the finishing touches, you'll be looking at a gnashing wave of the hungry undead in no time.

Was really nice seeing a "quick and dirty" video like this - because let's face it: as much as we all want our models to be pinnacles of our skill, sometimes we also just want to get them *done* - and zombies a good example of it. Great results for efficient time investment. On the topic of blood effects, I've found that if you want some especially gnarly looking gore - like something got ripped up, munched on, or possibly exploded - mixing Typhus Corrosion with Blood for the Blood God (or if you want to be *really* fancy, mixing it with red and brown, then layering BftBG on top after it dries) creates a nice, chunky viscous look.

Interesting! I wouldn't have thought of mixing in chunks in quite that way... that'd have to look properly grim. 😂
@Sturmensky
@Sturmensky 2 жыл бұрын
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Aye it does! Though for proper "gobs o'bits" you can always just layer the Typhus first, then paint over. ...I may or may not occasionally have too much fun with this lol - the odd spot of "oh gods why?!" really helps make a model stand out in a warband.

Brilliant tutorial. I started my miniatures painting hobby by doing zombicide minis. Really enjoyed them. Not done zombies for a while, but I have the walking dead board game minis to paint and this has given me a fresh approach. Thanks again for the fantastic work. Regards Ian

As for the Orks, these aren't my favourites minis, therefore the effect of decaying flesh is well achieved, these kind of effects could be used also on Nurgle's traitor guards or for cultists of some Eldritch Horrors 👍😱

I find that even better than switching between colours on one zombie is switching between different parts of multiple zombies with the same colour, using a brown or slate grey (German Grey, of course) to do say the boots on one zombie, the trousers on another and the shirt on a third, then flipping the sections with the next colour.

That's what I'd meant to imply, but I think I might have fluffed the explanation a little. 😅

Good job, I have the whole set of Zombiecide to get too and you make a lot of good points to not overthink the scheme. Or sometimes just going with a few colors to go wild with painting. However I did use Barbarian Flesh from the Army Painter to basecoat my zombies as I figured a city would have them more 'freshly' done, but to lead on to the criticism of the Vortex Mixer with Army Painter-I would say that it's a tool that benefits all paints, not just one range. For example, I find that Vallejo's Gunmetal Grey and Old Gold are a hassle to get to properly flow but the mixer has helped me considered getting more of the range given it shakes them properly. There's also GW's layer paints which separate quite badly but are well mixed, along with Corax White which is infamous to use, due to the mixer. Therefore I don't think using it is a negative to Army Painter, after all it's a tool and you could easily replicate the mixing with a reciprocating saw if push comes to shove. And as well, look at wet palettes, does one really need them to use all their paints to their potential? No. But yet many advocate for them. So is that a weakness of paints themselves? Absolutely not. The same goes for brushes, hobby holders, dremels, etc. They're tools, but they're things of themselves outside of the paint's quality-which the 'soup' consistency would be a valid criticism.

I agree in the main - I use my mixer with all the paints I have, after all. The difference being that in order to get the most out of Army Painter to begin with, a mixer or similar tool to get them mixed up for the first use is way more useful than it is for something like a Citadel or Vallejo pot; those you can shake for a minute and then get painting, whereas with the Army Painter if you're coming to a bottle of red or purple for the first time and you're having to shake that up manually? Well... you'll have a place on an Olympic shotput team afterwards, that's for sure.

Blood for the Blood God is such a sweet technical paint. The dabbing/tapping to add nasty texture and patterns is so simple but so effective. I've got a horde of Mantic zombies to batch out soon so you bet I'll be referencing this vid for them! Thanks for the great content as always!

I painted up a horde of them, they're really great models that are quite easy to paint and assemble. I used contrast to get them done quickly since there were so many, but the method from this vid would probably get them even better looking

I like a dark browny-red in and around the Glistening Blood/Blood for the Blood God. For AP I like something like Crusted Sore. Gives it a dried blood look where the thinnest smudges would start caking up. Probably er... Khorne Red for Citadel equivalent?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 2 жыл бұрын
I hadn't tried Crusted Sore! I went with Abomination Red for one of them, which seemed a little more 'fresh' than Crusted Sore would have done, but the darker contrast might have worked better in a couple of cases. Half the fun of experimenting with them! :D
