Fast-roping is the riskiest way to exit a helicopter in a controlled manner. Within the armed forces, this method is used for the rapid insertion of units in a place where the helicopter cannot land. You gather your courage and climb out of a quietly hanging helicopter, in this case a Boeing CH-47F Chinook in use with the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF). Sliding down a fist-thick rope using your hands and feet. This specialist action requires thorough education, experience and therefore a lot of training.
