The Government wants to give itself greater powers to quickly approve a range of projects, such as roads, dams and mines. The Environmental Defence Society worries that will mean their victories could be under threat.
Join Jack Tame and the Q+A team and find the answers to the questions that matter. Made with the support of NZ on Air.

The National Minister of Regional Development Shane Jones has said on record that given a choose between expanding mining mining or saving the Kiwi, the Kiwi can go. His quote "Gone are the days of the multi-coloured Skink, the Kiwi, many other species that have been weaponized to deny region NZ communities their right to a livelihood." So this National Party is HAPPY to kill our National Symbol to make a dollar. There are others ways region communities can have a livelihood than killing unique native NZ wildlife that once dead are gone forever. Voting this party in was a SICK day for New Zealand & we will be paying for it for GENERATIONS to come if they destroy our environment & wildlife in pursuit of money. 4:35

I think the actual bill can certainly be improved or less aggressive, but NZ does need *a* fast-tracking bill, or planning reform bill if you like. Something that speeds up consenting and building projects, so we have more transport options, ambulant energy supply, etc etc. Otherwise we end up having to conserve electricity when it's -6 degrees.

Chris Bishop is fundamentally wrong to say the FT bill will speed up the RMA consents system. The FT bill will be a boutique process for failed projects like the Te Kuha opencast coal mine on conservation land in Buller. All the farmers and councils and small and medium companies won't benefit from the FT bill because they will still have to get the usual consents from councils. If Chris Bishop doesn't like the RMA, why did the Co-Government keep it alive by repealing the replacement Natural and Built Environments Act? Bishop knows nothing about planning or resources of conservation. He is the perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect, where you are so stupid you don't know how stupid you are. The FT bill is basically a way of giving a few biased Ministers some undemocratic "Henry VIII" powers to rewrite conservation laws by ministerial decree. I hope this issue buries the Co-Government.😄

N.Z has learnt a lot from past mistakes but N.Z needs to make it easier for business to set up shop here. There will still be a high standards for the environment as corporations hate bad press & New Zealand needs jobs to get ahead. Go Shane Jones !

@@myke29 oh yeah believe the world bank. I have more faith in what Russell Coutts said about how hard it is here just have a yacht race with local government, iwi, over zealous marine so called experts all with their hands out & creating red tape. N.Z needs to be more like Ireland & get out of its own way.

If I can read you comment correctly you can't just dump sewage onto land endlessly, IT HAS A CARRYING CAPACITY beyond which the excess flows into streams & rivers like like what happened to the Waikato RIver.
