I got a 15hp yamaha 2stroke an iv had it since i was 16y an im 30y now she runs great still i just hooked up a 40hp merc on a 16ft Carolina skiff old school boat with a 2010 merc 4stroke

I'm in a 12ft kayak going 5kph lol. I think I found the next step up

I’ve got a 1442 jon boat, flat hull (sorry if that’s wrong terminology just got into boating) with an 8hp Yahmaha....trolling motor, battery, gear etc with just me on the boat I can hit about 21mph...with 2 ppl it drops quite a bit. It feels quick on some lakes, but larger bodies of water kinda feels slow.

I get about 20-21 mph on my 14x40 jon boat with the 9.9. But once I have a passenger it gets about 16mph. I'm looking into getting a 25hp

What size motor shaft do you recommend for a Jon boat, mine measures 18” from the transom to the keel?

That's fast enough for me on the water. I've fished with guys who have boats that run 50+ mph and i feel a little uncomfortable going that fast on the water.

Thats normal? I had a 14' alumacraft with a 25hp 2stroke mariner that would go close to 50. It was scary until i built the deck on the front to keep that front end down

OARS RODS COOLERS TACKLE BOXES FRONT & REAR DECKING. FLOORING. TROLL MOTOR. SOLID LARGE ALUMINUM PLATING ACROSS FRONT BOW. & 10 ROD HOLDERS. & MY TWO STROKE 9.9. 94 MODEL. RUNS OUT AT 16 MPH FULLY LOADED. BUT. ONLY. AROUND 12 MPH GOING UP STREAM IN THE RIVER ... BUT SHE GETTS THE JOB DONE EVERY TIME !!

Sounds about right, our 14' w bottom goes 21mph with 2 people. Actually. it's faster with 2 people than 1.

My 14 48 60 semi v flat extra wide. Has a merc 9.9 & it would do 20. MPh. But I put front & rear decking in it. ,, flooring. Rodrack. Lights & anchors. & alot of other stuff. & now it does around 14 mph or less. It's rigged & loaded now & needs bigger outboard !!!

I have a Honda 9.9 and its hard to sit on top of the water. I have to lean forward and then it will settle down skipping along. Very disappointed. My old Evinrude 9.9 TWO STROKE was a dandy until it was stolen. The cops did nothing.
