crosstrainingenduro.com Our review of Fastway's Evolution 4 footpegs. And a long term review of the Fastway Adventure footpegs. I've got big feet and these footpegs are extra long and wide. Two? They are the most adjustable footpegs on the market. Some adventure motorbikes come with reasonably good footpegs. Our long term review of the Fastway adventure footpegs. I've been using these on adventure bikes for the past six years. Some like the DR650 come with these tiny footpegs that can actually be a bit dangerous, depending on the size of your boot, and the sort of riding you do. And these footpegs are adjustable in three different ways. And soon, our Fastway Evolution 4 footpegs review. First? You can adjust the camber by turning this screw. And a few motorbikes like the DR650 have footpegs that can be too high for riders of even average height. What else? Fastway Adventure footpegs are made in the USA. I know there are cheap Chinese copies of footpegs flooding the market but I don't want my footpegs snapping at the worst possible moment. Second. You can use different sized cleats to adjust the amount of grip you want. If you often ride in wet or muddy conditions, use taller cleats in your Fastway Adventure footpegs. If you like to minimise wear of your boot soles, then use the smallest cleats. I always use the smallest cleats. These still offer good grip but there's very little wear for the boot soles. And when you look at the cost of resoling boots, Fastway Adventure footpegs can save quite a bit of money over the years. Third. And if you stop adventure riding, sell these footpegs separately! I'm always surprised that many riders just sell their motorbikes with so much bling... and it rarely adds much value to the motorbike. And finally... If these footpegs are too long and wide, Fastway do make a range of smaller footpegs that may suit. My brother bought the Evolution 4 footpegs for his DR650. These are smaller, but still substantially bigger than the tiny factory footpegs. You can mount this collar on top of the footpeg which lowers the footpeg and moves it rearward as well. This is great for taller riders like me who feel cramped on any motorbike. Okay, that's all the good stuff. Are there any negative points? The Fastway Adventure footpegs are seriously wide footpegs. If you ever find yourself in a deep rut they will obviously hit sooner than small footpegs will. And if you leg paddle in tough terrain, you obviously will need to keep your legs a bit wider than usual to avoid hitting the footpegs. The cost of Fastway Evolution 4 footpegs? Expensive! These are around US$270 so they really need to be considered as a long term investment. They can be swapped from motorbike to motorbike. You may just need to buy different collars to ensure a proper fit, or adjust the existing collars. The Evolution 4 footpegs are designed to last indefinitely. They are the close cousin the motocross version made from alloy. But the Evolution 4 footpegs are made from stainless steel. Like the entire Fastway range, they have the three methods of adjustment and can be transferred between most motorbikes, so Fastway Evolution 4 footpegs make a good long term investment. But I figure that scenario is way beyond the concept of normal adventure riding. At US$240 these are definitely the Rolls-Royce of foot pegs, but given you can buy different collars to make them suit pretty much any adventure bike they could make a good long-term investment given how long they'll last. There are cheaper pegs but if you want ultra secure pegs with an incredible range of adjustment these would be hard to go past. Recently I did an adventure ride with a guy who has the Fastway adventure footpegs which I didn't even know existed. He raved about them so much I got them for the DR650. Good to see the usual quality stuff, good instructions.Beautiful foot pegs. And that's the first thing i noticed, that if you were pushing the bike along fast it feels incredibly ecure, and when i look down to check I was actually using the entire width of the peg at various times. I think in the long run this would have to make a difference to how long your boot souls will last. In the past, I always found my boot souls are chewed out in the middle first by the end of the foot peg, but no such problem with the Fastway foot pegs. I haven't had a chance to drag them through any mud yet but they also look as though they'll pegs.

I suspect much of the expense comes from machining the threads for the cleats, but they are a great idea. Muddy trip? Just put a few taller cleats in. Or once they wear down, put some new ones in.

Thanks for the review baz , us$270 scared me off, I was going yeah,yeah ye, ohh, get used to it Mark, you've always been to tall for every thing else in this 5ft10 world, $270+conversion+freight equals two nights in a motel including fuel and food. Y' had me keen though.

The Evo footpegs are way cheaper, Mark. Around US$160. If I didn't have big boots I'd have been happy with those. The price does seem really high on the adventure footpegs though. I asked a machinist about this and he reckons if they are made in the USA that sounds about right. He explained to me what's involved with the CNC machining. I didn't understand any of it lol. But it sounded time consuming.

My brother-in-law is one of the executives for Fastway. I'm sure he'll be happy when I tell him about your review! I'll see if I can talk to him about the pricing ;)

I found a pair of adventure pegs on eBay for $160, they're used "attempted to install" and basically LNIB. deals can be found, and I'm not worried about having these snag on a corner because my feet are still just barely over the outside edge while cornering, so I know my feet are going first if I'm silly enough to lean a DR that hard.

Inexpensive option, take your stock or aftermarket pegs off and mount them below the bottom peg flange on the frame. Bolt them on with a longer threaded stainless steal bolt running though both peg flanges. This lowers them 1" and back 1" on my ktm 300xc, an incredible difference for me being 6' 4" tall. It's best to use a metal compression collar over the bolt or lock nuts in between the metal flanges so they can not bend, if you are an engineer then you may see how this is a stronger bracket and it transfers your weight over a wider area. The left side of the frame works perfectly with the part of the peg that rests against the frame, on the right side I just drilled the peg and tapped a short bolt to level the peg and rest against the frame better.

Another option... simply hacksaw through the flange of the footpeg where the bolt goes through. Then transfer the sawn off part to the top of the footpeg. In most cases it only drops the pegs by 5mm but I remember it was about 20mm on my WR450F years back.

I also have those 2" Rox risers and find together with the lower pegs that the 300xc feels so nice for me. With my size 13 SG-12 enduro boots the foot controls are not so cramped, when I am on the balls of my feet on the pegs I'm in a good spot and have instant access. The brake is adjusted all the way down but might end up a little high with fresh brake pads. I hear if you take one of the locknuts off it will go lower, there is a few hacks one can use.

I’ve the pivot pegs on my DR. Chews the shit outta my left boot sole. Not bothered though. An old ankle injury has gummed up the joint so the “pivot” is much appreciated.

I reckon with a bit of research you could figure something out. E.g. A quick search shows DRC, Super Stock, and Ballards make footpegs for the XR650R and they look pretty standard. They may list what other models these fit and you could work it out from there if any of the Fastway kits might work.

I see at 1:34 bootstrap undone. It happened to me a fair bit because I couldn’t get them tight enough. I then discovered I can remove them and cut them shorter on the inner end (non-buckle) which allows me to do them up tighter. Not sure if that’s relevant for you. I do like the looks of the smaller, stainless steel pegs your brother was using. Is there a big difference between the Evo 4 and yours?
@crosstrainingadventure
@crosstrainingadventure 2 жыл бұрын
Just me being careless I think, Simon. 😁 I had just put the footpegs on and put the boots on quickly to just ride down the street and back to film them. The Evo 4 is close to half the price and a fair bit smaller... but still a lot bigger than the standard DR650 footpegs. I think they have the actual dimensions on their website.

Do the Fastway adventures in the rearwards position put your legs too far back or is it comfortable? Being 6' 3 on the DR and wearing MX boots put my knees almost above the gas tank and I already have lowed peg mounts.

@@crosstrainingadventure Thanks for the quick reply. I ordered the jns 1.5 inch lowered pegs but was afraid to get any rear offset in those. Now I see that would have helped my standing position be in a much more comfortable position. I'll snag the ADV fastways and see how they do. Cheers 🍻

A cheap way to explore this option is these plates. They hang a bit below the frame but are fine if you aren't hopping over logs etc. www.vincestrangmotorcycles.com.au/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=20_66&product_id=158

You call that a foot peg? The footpegs on my BMW HP2 MegaMoto make them look like a toothless old man. Admittedly, mine are not as wildly adjustable as those Fastways; but it IS a road bike after all. A road bike with Sharks teeth to rest your footsies on.
