Taking a break from Tsukihime, we turn our focus back to Fate for the Tale of Medea. This one is almost entirely covered in FSN and Hollow Ataraxia, with no need to pad or flourish the story with other interpretations of the legend. As such, this is NOT the real story of Medea as you might read in historical literature, it is the specific character from Type-Moon.

Part of me considered how it would have gone if she was picked up by shirou, but ya know what? Soichirou needed her. She needed him. They are perfect for each other and deserve a happy ending

some stories can be considered "good vs good" Character like that might oppose main protagonist goal, but his/her goal might be also pretty noble. Caster never actually killed anyone. She simply stole people mana. She even saved all people kidnapped by Atrum callista

well yeah, she was a ruthless antagonist from the perspective of shirou, rin and arturia, as well as the other participants of the war and even most of the humans in fuyuki, but even ruthless antagonists have their own personalities. Archer would have joined her in her quest, because in a way he was just as in despair and without purpose as she was based on their histories

in what way is she sadistic??? she is a bit ruthless, but situation here is totally understood. She actually didn't kill anyone. She simply stole people mana. She also saved all people kidnapped by her master Ruthless doesn't mean sadistic.... (Rin and Shirou sometimes were ready to take more ruthless actions too. Shirou was willing to kill Shinji. Saber and Rin wanted to kill Illya when Berserker was gone and she was at mercy point.) they all are in severly dangerous situation, as a result none of them are willing to always take most morally right choice

I swear, if Jason becomes a summon, even an SSR one, I'm straight up feeding him to Medea; he ain't even worth a rare prism in my book. >:( Edit: Okay, I'll need to rethink my opinion of him after Lostbelt 5. He's still a jerk, but he's definitely not as bad as what first impressions gave. He really does show how he became captain of a crew of Greece's greatest heroes.

i love medea but in jason's defense he didn't know that the gods would be so shitty towards medea, whose yandere-ish love scared him. And he actually isn't that bad as a person as even alcides told his master that he would kill him if he didn't stop to criticize jason.

He is a 1* Bronze saber who orders Atalanta, Heracles, and Medea Lily to attack for him, and they always beat him up, especially in the NP. His third skill is pretty useful. Not for him but for allies. It gives Argo-Realted heros a lot of buffs. So Atalanta, Herc, Medea/Lily, any hero that was on the Argo save Jason will get a lot of buffs.

If you want to read a "Medea Route" like Fate story, I recommend trying "Path of the King" Fanfiction where Shirou is Medea's Master while Rin successfully manages to summon Saber.

She is not the only one of course, i feel that for most of the servants in the fate series(but some just deserve to die a second time), right now im playing fate extra, and every servant and master i fight, is a stab to the heart. I Half agree with you on the first figt. For me Rider was a blast, but I just wanted to make Shinji scream like a bitch. And about the last one, The servant was actually kinda likeable, and about the master I didn't really care. Just one more spoiled brat, but at least one that wasn't flamboyant or egotistic about it, imo.

I really despise those assholes who called themselves gods; I consider Medusa and Medea to have not truly lived thanks to the pettiness of the Greek gods. I admire Medea to be one of the most powerful magic users from the Age of Gods. Why oh why did they make her a 3* star servant thanks to the info we were given about her? Oh well, at least she'll be easier to upgrade.

While that argument does hold weight it's not true all the time. For example servants like Enkidu (Lancer) Gil's only true friend and King Hassan (Assassin) are justified as 5* servants based on their legends. Cu Chulainn is probably justified as a 3* lancer because his 5* version is a berserker and what he's apparently more famous for. He even states that he was known more for his ferocious fighting style iirc. However Jack the Ripper plays that argument straight since her stats as a servant don't really justify her 5* status.

holyforce000 The 3 stars rating I think is more like Cu (F/SN) or Robin Hood. They are extremely powerful servants and easy to get and upgrade. Helps a lot to complete missions if ya don't have any great gold servants. And then there's The Regend. A true miracle.

Though it's worth pointing out a lot of these stories of the Greek gods and even certain heroes are based on plays and poetry made to entertain rather than portray the Gods accurately. It got to a point that a philosopher (Can't remember who) pointed out that the gods weren't acting like gods in these works and pretty much a portion of his work was criticizing them and their creators.

OtakuDaiKun Imagine if Shirou was the one who found Medea instead of Sorichiro? Furthermore, because of both her and Shirou's personalities they will have the most complex relationship. She has sacrificed a great deal and has even suffered from the bitter taste of betrayal. While Shirou on the other hand, wants to walk the path of a righteous hero who saves all he can at any cost. What would make this the best in my opinion, would be because both of their ideals would clash at first. Masters and Servants are even able to share memories since (in a sense) they become connected. So Medea should be able to see Shirou's past, as the same for Shirou viewing hers. However, through kind and persistent actions I'm sure caster could not help but begin to change and see that through Shirou there is actually some good in the world and not everyone views her as a (witch.) Meaning it would lead to her becoming romantically interested in him.

OtakuDaiKun I wanted this so bad I started asking people how I could get in contact with Nasu and ask him myself. But from what I hear, did you know in the original fate/stay concept Caster was supposed to be Shirou's Servant instead of Saber but Nasu ended up scraping it because it wasnt popular between his/her staff members? Literally, Medea could have been his actual servant from the get-go.

Medea's story is a true tragedy. She suffered the unimaginable. And all for choosing the wrong man. Worst of it all, it wasn't even her who chose him. It was a goddess putting a mind control spell over her. Seriously, I've always thought the Greek gods are pure, unadulterated evil.

Except Hestia & Hades. Those two actually aren't bad. Hestia was a sweetheart, & Hades just stayed in Hades doing his job all day. He never got invited to do stuff with the other Olympians, so he just dedicated himself to his job & his prized rose garden. Kidnapping Persephone is possibly the most evil thing he's done, & she doesn't even really mind it too terribly much after she gets used to spending half a year with him annually.

I commented about this on the Medusa video, but I'd love to see a story where Medusa, Sakura, and Medea all play off each other. Both Servants could easily relate to Sakura's horrifying situation so much so that Rider canonically is pretty much trying to make up for past sins by making sure Sakura doesn't lose her humanity like she did. - Medea would likely be a much more nuanced dynamic since you could make the argument that she's potentially what Sakura could become if no one helps her even without the Shadow messing with her (insanely powerful mage, but broken and bitter after years of abuse and gaslighting). You could even play with how she might feel seeing Shiro being Sakura's friend and refuge (jealous of her having someone when she was cursed to be alone or wonder how her life might have changed if she had a friend, too). Really depends on whether she's an enemy or ally.

Well you never really get to see what happens to them in the actual Fate route. They only show it in Hollow Ataraxia so I tried to show a part of her most people haven't seen.

OtakuDaiKun I appreciate the sentiment of wanting to show fans a possible end to her story that they might have missed, but UBW is by far the most thematically resonant resolution to her story. Her life was one marked by betrayal and treachery. In UBW, despite having 2/3rds of the remaining servants on her side (through the use of rule breaking treachery no less), she's ultimately undone by Archer's betrayal. At the same time, Souichirou chooses to remain loyal to her past her death, thus giving Medea a bittersweet death as she is faced with confirmation of her first truly loyal loved one since becoming a witch as well as one final betrayal.

Tuff Jeanne is basically a carbon copy of the actual historical figure. Nasu didn't change anything about her like he did with Scathach or basically any other servant. Just google the historical figure and it'll mirror Nasuverse Jeanne.

Wasn't it mentioned that Soujuurou also received combat training when he was in the mountains? And I really would like other protagonists besides him that use high level martial arts and Breathing & Walking. It seems to be a topic that has been glossed over so far, but it seems to have ridiculous amount of potential.

If Medea had a strong master, like Rin or Sakura, she would have won the 5th Holy Grail War. With a master with 0 magic she was capable of building an almost impenetrable base, summon her own Servant and fighting 1v1 with most servants. And if she would target the masters instead of the servants in a fight, which she can with her magic bullets and flame stuff that goes burn a human, she would be unstoppable. She can't stop OP things like Exaclibur, but no other servant is as flexible as she is.

I've noticed that these lore videos usually only go by the perspective of a single route. This route was the Saber route, although would've been nice to see it from the Sakura and Rin route

I really like Medea and I recently found the Path of the King story (basically a fanfic that describes what it might be like if Shiro actually had some training under his belt and was Caster's master instead of Saber's). It's surprisingly great and really nails the different characters in a new context. Does anyone know where I can find the whole story? The source I was looking at stopped after chapter 54.

We need a 5* Medea servant in FGO. Summer Medea and her storyline should be that she breaks Aphrodite's curse before they leave her kingdom. She continues her studies of magic with Hecate and becomes a disciple of Hecate. The undertaking of being a disciple gives her immunity to all magic, curses, witchcraft, and sorcery.

What a shame her backstory got shafted in the anime in favor of giving screentime to Atomic Gatorade who's easily one of the most worthless and one-dimensional character in the whole franchise. Hell, even KFC in F/Z got better characterization than Medea when in comes to adaptations.

I have said it before, I’ll say it again: I am saddened by how Medea was used and tossed aside multiple times. Many have made note of the cruelty of the gods in Greek mythology. They neglect to mention the callousness of man. I admire Kuzuki’s willingness to help Medea, and I sincerely hope they are happy and know love in stories like Hollow Ataraxia and Carnival Phantasm. I thank you for the video.

Always liked the legend of Jason and the Argonauts... Not for Jason, of course, that guy's a dick. But it's pretty much the first crossover ever, right?? XD tons of heroes on that ship. That aside, being Medea is suffering. She's Cu-tier on that matter, which is why I liked so much her portrayal on Carnival, she deserved a happy ending. Greek gods were a bunch of assholes... Well, most gods are.

A recent acquisition of my great-grandfather’s schoolbooks has included “The Heroes Or Greek Fairy Tales.” That story added yet another detail to Jason’s past, he made a promise to Chiron: “Speak harshly to no soul whom you may meet, and stand by the word which you shall speak.” Safe to say he failed miserably…

Technically, if you read Medea's full stat sheet in FSN, she has the golden fleece with her, but is unable to actually use it because of Grail restrictions. Otherwise, her NP might be something similar to Martha, in that Medea ought to be able to summon the Dragon of Colchis.

Medea, Atalanta, Medusa...All woman with such tragic stories as fitting for these old legends, and my favorite Servants to this date with Atalanta being my all time favorite. While I do not play fate grand order as someone who dislikes turn based games and Gacha, those three I would attempt to get however possible. Maybe I am lucky and when a new Fate/Extella drops, Medea and Atalanta make their way there as well. When came to Casters, that class never really clicked for me aside from Medea whlie with the other classes I could easily make a top three with the likes of Emiya as an Archer and Iskandar and Achilles as Rider. Gilles and Shakespear while interesting, made me not really interested in the class at all and I knew Medea only from the Deen adaption of the Saber Route I watched when I was first introduced in the franchise and she stood as my favorite Caster up until this day. That brief spark of happiness she had was beautiful before the end came through Gilgamesh. At least Medea gets a happy end in Carnival Phantasm and goes to Hawaii! I wonder what many people did with their Jason's in fate grand order...

That's my goal, though some spirits are only relevant to other heroes' stories. Stheno and Euryale for instance probably won't have their own videos unless they get a lot more development.

I never really felt bad for her watching ubw. she basically does and embodies exactly what her legend "says" she is, and then wants to complain. You don't get to complain when you literally do it on purpose no matter the reason. That's how I feel anyways. I do feel pity for her to an extent, but let me say this she is still one of my favorite characters.

It just goes to show that behind all the evil amd wickedness is a scared woman who just wants to go home. Idk why you would go to murder and such in order to compensate, but hey it worked out for her.

really good vid, but I really must say it, since Medea is also my fave caster before I met Tamamo.... Rule breaker doesn't just breaks bonds of master-servant....it negates everything magical....more on that in Heavens feel since you only covered fate route... an example would be like Imagine breaker from To aru series....
