But he discovered that his reward was to be resurrected to fight in the HGW over and over again, and became disillusioned with the concept. So to erase his mistake, he keeps trying to kill his past self. No past Shiro, no future Archer, no miserable and ironic existence.

​@@Lyndonmaman the gist is there but there are some misunderstandings to correct. Spoiler essay ahead. I don't know if he fought in a grail war, as that would be quite the paradox, but archer was a shirou who lived his life following his dream of being a hero of justice. He went all over the place righting wrongs, saving people, the whole thing. At some point, he got into a particularly tight spot, and made a deal with Alaya, to obtain the means to solve the situation in exchange of giving up his afterlife and becoming a Counter guardian. He continues his heroing, stuff happens (explained in Fate Extra) and he is betrayed by a comrade and executed by a country he saved. As per his deal, after dying, he became a guardian and was given the Origin "sword", forming the basis of his mental landscape (as far as I understand it anyway). So he stayed there all the time, until Alaya needed to send him clean up humanity's mess. It was fine at first, but eventually he came to understand that humanity was beyond saving and this was pointless. In FSN, there is part that seem to imply that each mission would build up his marble by one or two swords until it become the UBW, which goes to show how long he was active. Then one day he was summoned for a hgw during his time period, in the same area as his past self and thought that maybe killing him or at least changing his mind about that whole hero business would prevent a world of hurt and by proxy, erase him. Of course, it's wasted effort, since by becoming a guardian, archer was removed from the natural cycle, so even if FSN shirou dies for some reason, archer won't disappear.

@@juggernautalpha8123 Spoiler reply below Archer definitely did fight in the 5HGW as Shirou the master, and yes in that one Rin also summoned Archer Emiya, it's like a loop sorta thing. In fact the first scene in the VN, the "are you my master" one, is supposed to be from the POV of Archer summoning Saber back when he was fighting as regular Shirou in his timeline's HGW. Apparently his HGW followed the plot of the Fate route, but Shirou and Saber weren't able to reconcile and work past their character flaws, leading Shirou to still be a self-sacrificial hero of justice by the end of it. Also he wasn't given the origin "sword" by Alaya(aka what he made a contract with), what caused that was having UBW(which he always had, hence why in UBW route Shirou can use it). And the "build up UBW by one or two swords" part is probably just a cool visual metaphor, in reality he adds any weapon he sees to it automatically(see HF route dagger) or by tracing it(see UBW Gil fight) - it's not really consistent but my point still stands. And yes you're entirely correct in saying killing Shirou wouldn't erase him, for Archer it's just as much about proving Shirou's ideals wrong. Which is also a slight issue I have with Abridged's characterization of Archer, in the OG he wouldn't have been happy with Rin killing Shirou, he wanted to personally defeat Shirou 1-on-1 while monologuing about his ideals and shit.

Assuming he doesn’t erase himself from existence (he almost faded when shirou almost died) then he should presumably reach Avalon eventually. Even if it’s not true or ever fully confirmed, I like to think he will.

Worst part is, he's not wrong. He's basically as hard to kill. In his actual legend, Cu Chulainn took on a whole army by himself, and when he was about to die, tied himself to a rock with his *own intestines* in order to ensure he would die standing up. When he finally died and the enemy forces went to ensure he was dead, the guy who went to try stabbing him ended up getting his arm chopped off, because Cu Chulainn's corpse did a post mortem spasm, resulting in the arm holding his weapon to swing down and chop the guy's arm off. So, yeah... Irish Hercules. Not wrong there.

Cu Chulainn's feats in life are not remotely close to Herc's labors, lifting the sky and becoming a God after death. Lore wise, it'd be more accurate to call him Irish Achilles. Not hating on his myth but saying Cu is Irish Heracles is kind of overselling him.(and underselling Herc himself) It's a joke that the fanbase takes too seriously and I really wish people would stop spreading this around and selling it as a fact. They are not comparable.

People make light of the fact that Cu Chulainn is always offed so easily that they forget that, in his actual legend, he survives some stuff that would kill about eight people half the hero he was. I was not saying that *all* of his feats in general equate to Hercules, simply the durability ones. If you notice, his greatest recorded durability feat is the only one I listed. I'm not trying to encompass everything that is Cu Chulainn and frame it in the same picture as Hercules.

@@BNF5005 And Achilles, depending on who he would be fighting, would, lorewise be even more durable than Hercules himself, seeing as he could only be hurt or killed after his heel is pierced, or by someone who is also divine in nature. So, Cu Chulainn can't be compared durability wise to Achilles, since Achilles would be unkillable to most people. Same thing with Siegfried. Trust me, I am a Fate Fan, but I'm not stupid enough to look at Cu Chulainn and think "Oh, he's Irish Hercules". I do know for a fact that Hercules in Fate would absolutely destroy Cu Chulainn in a fight. Even though Cu Chulainn is incredibly durable and hard to kill, Hercules is just as difficult to kill in terms of actually being able to put him down, and has auto-revive on top of that. In terms of what it takes to simply kill them once, they're about equal. The issue is that, for Hercules, it would require you to repeat the process 12 times in a row, while with Cu Chulainn, you just need one and you're done.

To use Fate as an example, in both the Fate and UBW routes, Cu Chulainn and Hercules fight Gilgamesh in each Route respectively. In Fate Route, in terrain working against him, it takes Gilgamesh two hours to kill Cu Chulainn. This is as much his Battle Continuation Skill as it is his sheer agility. Hercules is killed far faster, but this is simply because he can't rationally think and is just trying to bumrush Gilgamesh. But, in both scenarios, it takes a guy who literally can just throw weapons at you constantly to solo them, and even then, it still takes him a while, simply because one is absurdly hard to kill and is insanely fast, and the other is also insanely hard to kill and will just revive if you do kill him. But that's part and parcel of it. Hercules can just bumrush Gilgamesh because on top of being fast, he will revive himself and is insanely strong. Cu Chulainn has roughly the same physical durability, but because he has the one life, he has to focus on dodging and speed. Cu Chulainn does not measure up to Hercules in terms of actual physical strength, but his absurd Battle Continuation Skill makes him just as difficult to kill as one of Hercules' lives. Essentially, you need to overkill both of them to actually put them down. The only difference is that Hercules needs overkill times 12. Cu Chulainn just needs the one. And that's why Hercules is ultimately better. Besides, we didn't even see Hercules at his best in F/SN. Archer Hercules is FAR more powerful.

That is where the term Satan specifically comes from, most of the rest come from secondary material that may or may not be ascended fanon, with the closest link being that the name Lucifer (origin being a reference to Venus, which considering the point in time was probably also vaguely referencing the roman goddess) gets hurled at an arrogant king as an insult. Then a guy wrote a whole story that people just kinda assumed was true that made Lucifer out as a fallen angel's name. Interesting history to look through honestly. Either way though, Satan I'd take as a gambler, Lucifer has a 50/50 of being a wraith depending on if he actually existed in FSN canon, and dunno the status of the other devils, most of them are also secondary stories, but in that sense they probably share Luci's status as a coin toss for if they are more than a wraith.

Technically those lines of dialogue were referring to Archer EMIYA more than Archer Gilgamesh, cause Gil shoots the weapons out of portals while EMIYA tends to throw them, or at least, his main 2 swords he throws.

I'm talking about the actual myth of cuchullain. And I think in one of the games he is a berserker, because of Riastrád. A power that let's cuchullain transform and basically go completely insane. Their characters in the show aren't very similar at all.

well,if we consider fate/go.... fans:"no we dont" we might just assume that berserker cu would be similar to cu alter.which would mean higher survivability than herc and better stats,but no extralives he could bounce off to if he does die.considering hercs survivability is actually quite high outside of go tho,berserker cu would basicly just run over everyone anyways.but then there is the possibility he is nothing like cu alter,in which case what i just said is invalid xD
