This song is the prove that FW is the real prog metal pioners, the time changes along the song until acoustic section is more progressive than Queensryche EP or The Warning album.

One of my fave songs, off one of my fave lp of all times. One of those game changing lps for me.

The first time saw these guys live on video I remember having to look twice to see if that voice was coming from a real human being. I was like " no way - this guy is unbelievable ..... AND REAL !!!!!

To me, Night On Brocken, is ,and forever will be, Fates Warning Best album. It is the epitome of Heavy Metal. After that , the band started a search for progressive perfection, that to put it simply, has no place in Heavy Metal. I must admit that the second and third albums are still good, but not as great as the magnificent Heavy Metal gem that Night on Brocken is. I listen to heavy metal to bang my head and rise my fists, not to sit on a coach having a cup a coffee. Few albums are as great as Fates Warning first record. All those people out there saying ,that during NOB, Fates Warning was trying too hard to be like Maiden, have no clue what they are talking about. That's what happens when idiots talk about how progressive a band is , equaling progressive to being good. Those people have no idea that real Heavy Metal is meant to be pure. That is not to say that a Heavy Metal band cannot have progressive elements in its music. However, the Heavy Metal has to be the predominant musical trace in the band. So when a band looses their Heavy Metal edge, the band looses its original identity. NIGHT ON BROCKEN RULES !!!

It is an awesome experience seeing this song live. An acknowledgement to Victor Arduini who co-wrote this one. Frank was the perfect replacement, though.

It must suck being Ray knowing his band would rather have this singer on stage with them than him. Why do they bother keeping Ray? he can't (and never could) sing songs from John's era. They had to change their music when he joined to suit his voice. Now they have to water it all down and can't even play well known songs from when ray joined because he can't sing them either. He's a known asshole who nobody personally likes, can't sing, the band and fans all prefer John, so why keep Ray? Like I said, it must suck being Ray knowing they only keep him either for PC (afraid to fire a border jumper) or contract reasons.
