This is the one thing that Tim is unreasonably understanding of. I like to think that 60 hours a week on the road has given Tim some kind of honking-trauma which his son has picked up on over the years. Tim hears that its his son's fear and doesn't even think to second-guess it. It's only natural to be terrified of honky horns

yeaaaah, the pumps gone bad, i gotta get arou- i gotta fix it, its got a leak or somethin in the- theres a part i need to replace and I can't afford it right now, not until Ross gets me a promotion, which he said he'd do, but he hasn't done it yet and I been askin him for weeks, not tryin to be on his ass or nothing, but he jus- i know he's got a lot of employees and I too a look at the cost reports and I dont know if somethings not added up or what but its goin- its- the companies in the red or the black or i don't know but its in the toilet so i don't expect im gettin a promotion unless i work real real hard next week but i got this thing with my step son next week and i already asked off (even tho Ross said he couldn't grant me the time off or whatever) so I don't know what I'm gonna do, but I think I'm gonna do the son thing cus he's all I got, don't got no friends who are out of jail yet and I can't get a woman at any of the bars cus their all whores at these bars I go to, I go to whore's bars, but I'll give it a shot, the son thing, and maybe Ross won't be too pissed that I missed work but I dunno. Its a, Its a work in pregr- Its a work in progress and Im- Ive been through worse and harder times and shit, I'll get through it or whatever. Anyway, even if I get the part, I still cant really afford the water bill to refill the basin, the tub, the pool or whatever, so I gotta get another promotion, theres a few places that are hiring that I can- i that I know I can get a job at, but, and there's just, I just gotta apply myself I know I can do it, you know, so thats not holdin me back or anything, but I got a step son I gotta take care of and its just a whole lotta work for one guy.

its genious writing. it sets an absurd situation that we all experience one way or another in real life, and tim goes through the process of life. Tim's portraying a young mans life and an unwanted pregnancy while on the journey through adolescence, and in the end, becoming a father to his son
