Dude, that's beautiful, I love seeing father and son projects like this. And props to the kid for working hard and saving his money to achieve a goal like that, it requires a lot of determination. He really seems to like and care about the car, like when Rickie talked about lowering the suspension, his first reaction was being worried about it scraping, kids these days only care about slamming cars to the ground, so it's nice to see one caring about the integrity of the car.

3 more mods I highly recommend: rear wheel disk conversion, Mopar Performance PCM, and a short shifter. The short shifter is more of a quality of life thing since the stock throw on the gear shift is cartoonishly long.

You can tell he's a good kid and respects the value of money and hard work. It's tempting as parents to just give your kid everything that you didn't have, but they can't appreciate it the same. This is great! Brought a lot of joy to my heart to see you guys working together, and to see your son following in your footsteps Ricky: not just in working with cars, but mainly in being a HARD working man. The world is full of so many un-initiated young men, not initiated into manhood. I can tell your son is a real man. Car is paid for, parts are paid for. No credit debt here. Nicer cars will follow I am sure, in time, but he is wise to live within his means. The Neon looks great! Very tasteful mods. You’ll pick up the stick shift quickly, no worries. No fear!

This video made me break down into tears of sadness at first but then they turned to tears of joy seeing another young man be able to make an irreplaceable memory like this with his dad. This is what father's are for not just for the guidance but the fun as well. My dad passed away at the start of the pandemic, now that he's gone i think about him every day. He was my one true best friend. While i was growing up i was just a hot headed boy full of testosterone and i treated him harshly never truly trying to bond with him, not watching sports or showing interests in the things he loved. That is something i will regret the rest of my life because now that he is gone ironically i find myself loving all of his interests and i think about what life was like in his shoes and this is one of the things we talked about doing before he passed away because i purchased my first car before the pandemic hit so i never got the chance to do it. The only thing I can do now is hope that one day if i have a boy of my own i will be able to do the things I should have done with my hero... I hate that i had to learn things the hard way. I know that if he wasn't in my life i would have been far worse off than what I turned out dad's are the true Heroes of this world and deserve to make memories like this. I'm happy for the both of you hope you have many more dope videos like this!

This is so cool! Glad to see a young person building their first car and saving a rather cool car in the process. I actually own a 2004 Dodge Intrepid (the full size car offering from Dodge from 1998-2004) and while it needs some TLC, it runs and drives great. Planning on doing an OEM+ style build to keep it clean since there aren’t many left on the road but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Btw, the 2 liter DOHC engine in that neon was described as an American B Series engine by RCR. The fuel cutoff is at 7500 rpm. What a great little car! Take care of it!

My parents had one of these when I was younger but it was the 4 door one and omg that car was a piece of shit. I remember the engine literally blew up and it barely had any miles on it. The interior was crap too lmao

Hopefully you guys have an alarm for this build. When I was a teenager this was one of the easiest cars to steal ….. or so I hear. Frameless doors make it easy to pull the window out and open the lock from the inside.

True enough. I locked myself out and managed to break into mine with a stick through the front window seal... twice. I also had it broken into three times without any signs of forced entry.

Not only that, if thieves see the speakers on the back shelf, that glass is gonna be smashed pretty soon. Get it tinted ASAP!

@@MC-dw5or honestly , I used to be able to get into and drive away in these specific Dodge Neons with frameless windows in about 5 minutes. It’s a lot quieter than breaking a window and then you can take your time away from the location to remove anything you want.

Me and my dad work on my base neon and my neon RT together and I cherish those moments so much. He doesn’t really understand much of the newer cars, but it’s these moments I never regret.

My first car was a 4 door dodge neon automatic back in 2001. Back when I was a 18 year old teenager . My dad and I spent so much time with that neon. Taught so much about cars. Good times. This video takes me back .

Never was a big fan of Neons, but honestly I think it turned out super clean, and I'd have to say that body style has really aged quite well. Definitely something to be proud of for your first car and even cooler that you worked for it. I'd say it's a keeper for sure, I feel like these were ran into the ground, this one really cleaned up well honestly. Enjoy it and when you are ready for more power swap in a motor from an SRT 4, would be killer.

I had a 97 Neon with the DOHC engine. After three tries the dealer finally used a metal head gasket. But that car handled like a champ! One thing I would suggest for improved power is to replace the throttle body on the stick shift car with a throttle body from an automatic, as the auto is 55 mm to the sticks 50 mm

Absolutely loved this episode guys! Nice to see Ricky and son working on his first car. So wholesome 🤗. Used to love these Neons back in the day! In future would love to see you guys get detailed and tidy things up on the interior, tackling things like the dash and other bits that need a 'straighten up'. Definitely needs a short stubby gear knob (throtl gear knob of course). And I'd say a tidy up of the remainder of paint + body bits. Definitely needs some aftermarket tails on that too! Slap a little exhaust on that haha. Awesome project overall guys! Need more of this!

This is so awesome and beautiful to see: a father and son project, with so much passion, excitement happiness and love. Reminds me a lot of my father and son project with my third gen Firebird. MAN was that an intense challenge with four engine swaps and a tranny rebuild but man is it worth it. Now that I moved away from home to another city for college, I take pride in my car. It’s my first car, that I used to move with. Anytime someone asks for a story behind my car I always say that it’s a father-son project, still. I feel it always will be. Its funny when i do something to the car and then visit home cause my dad always gives me a look like “really why lol”. But anytime I see my car it reminds me of my parents tbh, so whenever I feel homesick I just take a nice cruise and it makes the sadness go away. ❤️
