This is a common literary device in many songs, stories and movies. It's up to you how old he is because of the device being used and the age not specificity being mentioned ... given the context, the singer is likely as old as he is in real life ... late 20's or early 30's or thereabouts.

To the questions to the songs: I think they made songs confusing on purpose because ppl would try to figure them out and therefore pay attention to them and also memorize. The rational mind tries to make sense of them, so they may be kept in mind like a riddle that needs to be solved. Another possibility is that they were made in a context that is not known to us like a movie or story etc. Or they were just too stupid to write songs that make sense xD but I think there is a purpose behind it, since I do not believe in purposelessness.
