I did an eicr today which is prior to changing the consumer unit, it is currently a square D consumer unit with type 1 mcbs, ground floor sockets mcb had a ringmain plus 2 radials for 2 heaters (4 Lives), 1st floor socket circuit had ringmain and 2 radials to heaters as well, a right game trying to get them back in the mcb's after for the mcb terminals to grip all 4 wires... extra mcbs or rcbos required for the new consumer unit I'd say. Have to say I havent done an eicr for a couple of years nice to have a change

Great stuff. Rings are good to learn testing on! GSH/EFIXX did a great video on that in the past.

Nice one. Always useful, when was the tank installed always provides a clue about fault finding and element problems.

Thats an unknown but I think around 5-10 years ago.

@@electrician247 it’s around the 10 year anniversary that you often see problems we have the same issue on US of course internal corrosion and water chemistry play a part as well.

Hi Mark, Before you did the insulation resistance test, did you drain down the tank?

Humm this was a long time ago now so can't remember is the honest answer. I think it was empty as we replaced the element.

With doing insulation resistance tests at the element. Will it effect the timeclock which has an electronic circuit board?, unless you disconnected the load side of the time clock

100% it would Paul. In this case the timeclock is connected on to the stat. By removing it from the prongs on the element the timeclock s disconnected. Leaving just the heating element in the firing line! Great point to highlight though, very important to consider equipment likely to be damaged by testing.

@@electrician247 that's good I should of looked closer, i thought you left it connected still. By the way do those cylinder thermostats just pull out?as I'm OK with the standard copper cylinder ones but the invented type seem to be in more solidly fixed, I've do a lot of immersion testing and replacement on standard copper cylinders but been a bit wary of the Thermtec type with removing the stats.

@@paultipton743 I don’t mess with the wet stuff lol. Especially pressurised tanks like these. Leave it for the plumbers for me lol. These are nice to test on as the stat simply pulls off. I mention it early in the video. Great point to highlight 100% though. Thanks
