Faulty Quooker Flex Tap - boiling water splashing - read description for how to fix

The Quooker Flex cold/hot/boiling water tap is supposed to deliver a stream of finely aerated boiling water, to prevent scalding. After 2 years of use, the boiling water stream became initially cool, and once boiling temperature was reached, splattered badly. The cold water supply immediately after then became boiling hot.
Quooker Customer Service reviewed the video and advised me to fit a new Flex tap hose, which they kindly sent free of charge with fitting instructions. This fully resolved the problem. The part number of the Flex hose kit supplied was 31.234.00.
Dismantling the old hose, I found it comprises two concentric flexible tubes, the inner tube for boiling water and the outer for hot and cold. The inner boiling water tube had developed a small split, allowing boiling water to escape and mix with cold in the main outer tube. I hope Quooker have found a way to improve the durability of the inner tube, but even if it needs a new hose every 2 years, that is a small price to pay for this brilliant time and energy saving system.
If you are considering buying a Quooker Flex tap and this potential issue concerns you, you can always choose the Quooker Fusion tap instead, which provides the same functions but without the extending flexible hose.

Thank you for sharing. This is happening to our brand new tap from the day it was installed (4 days ago) making it unusable. I raised it with Quooker customer services who were eager to send out a technician. I have declined the technician visit and am sending the tap back as it's not fit for purpose. I may replace with the fusion which doesn't have the flex pipe. During my research I even asked friends and family to send me videos of their Quooker taps who have the fusion and surprised to see my 10 year old niece filling a mug with boiling water without any spluttering. I just couldn't understand why my flex tap was spitting everywhere and how my cold water feed ended up also dispensing boiling water when first turned on ... so thank you for sharing this. p.s. ours was fitted by a plumber and it's pretty foolproof fitting it.

That's an odd one, I guess it's possible the hose may have been faulty since manufacture, but that must be rare. The other thing to check I guess is that the pressure relief valve has been fitted correctly, so that the cylinder doesn't become overly pressurised, causing boiling water to escape through the tap

@@saminaali-sharif6851 @Samina Ali-Sharif That's good to know - my tap is from 2018. It looks like the COMBI tank was updated to omit the pressure relief valve in 2022. It simplifies the plumbing and tidies up the under-sink area as there is no longer the need for a drain hose connected to the waste.

That's disappointing. Someone commented a while back that it can be caused by the hose couplings not being fully engaged in the junction "ball". It may be worth double checking those connections first.

I had this exact issue after 2 years without problems. They sent an engineer 3 times, who replaced everything (including filters, which Quooker tried to charge me for) before finally deciding to replace the hose. 2 months on, it’s starting to happen again. Very exasperating.

Very frustrating. I think a definitive test of whether the extending hose is the culprit is to run the tap cold, then activate the boiling water until it steams, then run the cold tap again. If the cold water is initially scalding, that would suggest boiling water has leaked from the inner hose for boiling water into the outer hose for cold and hot water.

How is it more energy efficient than a kettle? The quooker maintains the temperature of a bucket of boiling water 24/7

That's a good question. For many households, The Quooker Combi system will save energy - the bigger the household, the greater the energy saved. This is due to zero wastage of boiling water in use and low heat loss on standby. The water is contained in a double-walled stainless steel vacuum flask, resulting in virtually zero heat loss through the sides and base, leaving only the top of the cylinder to incorporate a block of expanded polystyrene insulation. Stand-by power averages 10W, which works out at 0.24 kWh per day, about the same power as it would take to boil 2 litres of water in a kettle. Whether this is more cost-effective than using a kettle depends on how often you use boiling water and how much you waste each time by boiling more than you need. Another benefit of the Quooker Combi is that it doubles as a hot water supply, doing away with the need for a separate hot water supply to the sink, with its associated inefficiencies.

That would be a different issue, I think. I would recommend getting in touch with Quooker support for advice. Make sure you have the serial number of the tank to hand, as there have been a few changes to the system over the years which may impact on the diagnosis.

@@Trading-po8pm Just a thought, does your system have the under-sink pressure relief valve and tundish to allow expansion during warm-up to be discharged into the waste plumbing? If so, I wonder whether the pressure relief valve has seized causing excess pressure in the tank. If you briefly rotate the handle on the pressure relief valve/tundish assembly either way, you should get a squirt of water into the tundish, which could potentially help to free it up.

This particular fault is unlikely to occur so soon. To test, run the boiling water for 10 seconds. Then run the cold. If the cold water comes out boiling initially, then you have this fault. If not, then you don't have this fault
