+Ana Belén Braceras it depends also on the clay brand you are using and the sand paper number (here is 600). Anyway for this pendent does not matter if you scratch a bit the surface because wood is not perfectly smooth. But I did not have any scratches (I'm using Kato Polyclay)

I would really strongly recommend that anyone doing dry sanding wear a dust mask, and do it outdoors. It's really just not a good idea to aspirate any type of small particulate into your lungs; it can definitely cause long-term issues, or even short-term ones like pneumonia! And if you have pets or kids, who have much smaller lungs, this is doubly important.
