Just got the duo. It was much easier to set up with my Garmin tracker than my Vector 3’s. Longest time was fully charging the pedals every thing else was quick and easy. BTW, 50 hours and 25000 total hours to 20% degradation is just under 50 years at 10 hours a week. I’m sure other components and I will wear out faster.

I've been riding the Duo's for more than two charge cycles. Both lasted 60H before I got the battery low message. Hereafter you have 8h before going dead. I tested that indoors and can verify this. These are currently THE BEST POWER pedals you can be. I have had zero issues - inside, outside, bike 1, bike 2 - doesn't matter. ALWAYS reliable, consistent and accurate. I really love these pedals. One tiny recommedation; use looks grip cleat. These are better than the supplied although the also do the job.

I have bought a pair of these about 3 to 4 months ago (duo's), they have been absolutely faultless, user friendly, long battery life, well water sealed electronics and battery and having several bikes, fit in perfectly to changing over from bike to bike easilly, can recommend them fully and completely changed my training effectiveness, without a power meter you are training blind.

I’ve had these pedals for two years now. I’ve had no issues whatsoever with these. I use them with the KICKR trainer and the power always matches what comes out of the KICKR. The battery life is amazing. The only downside is the charging cable is so unique, I can’t just grab any old usb cable to charge them when I’m traveling. This review is why I bought them.

Only bought my UNO today. But on the website you can purchase spares and replacement parts - cables, bodies, spindles. The unique cable is not a biggy when you consider they are water proof - you do not have to worry about water ingress shortening the life of your power meter.

Thanks for your excellent review. I was shopping for a crank-based set-up, but there's nothing on the market for pre- Hollow-Tech cranksets, and I have Ultegra 6500. A pedal-based system is certainly easier to shift onto multiple bikes. If I ever decide to go with a more modern set-up, these will still work, and even if the batteries crap out after two years, for the 650 USD I paid, that's just $27/month to have accurate power data. All one has to do is NOT buy a coffee shop latte and a scone on a half dozen rides each month, and these are paid for. I thought I would never care about measuring my power output, but as it turns out, I do, mostly so I can determine how much I've got in me and can then mete it out over the duration of a ride.

Bought the Duo 2 months ago and they are excellent! Great value and quality - nice to see that confirmed. Great job on the review! Only thing I’d disagree with is the “non-replaceable battery” downside. This will never come up in practice, the battery will last for YEARS given that you hardly ever need to charge them.

As expected Assiomas turned out to be super solid. I'd really choose those over Powertap and Garmin. And I see built in battery as a strong point of these. They dodged a lot of problems with that decision. I wouldn't worry about battery life cycle as they require charging 10-20 times (?) per year. At this rate battery will easily outlast other components of the power meter.
@hgiusdfajgfds
@hgiusdfajgfds 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Sure batteries degrade with charge cycles, but if a standard cellphone is anything to go by, it's going to be a very long time before they're at, say, 50% capacity. Much rather that than having to deal with replaceable battery (cap) issues.

I have these and the bePRO on a couple of bikes. The bePROs are on a roadie with oval rings and power data accuracy has been spot on. Customer service while in Italy has been quick to respond and language is not a barrier to overcome. Had to ask a few questions, not try and resolve any problems. While I’m not affiliated with them, I highly recommend this brand for your power needs and the Assioma pedals have been very easy to switch between bikes.

Thorough review, thx. Technically speaking, when the rechargeable batteries die, the option exists to replace the pedal axle with new ones sold by Favero. They cost less than new pedals, but the way engineering and products progress it's doubtful replacement would be the best option. I am very pleased with mine. Just recharged for the second time since purchase logging 98 hrs. So, the 50 hr/charge spec seems to be accurate.

Hello, I have a pair of Assioma pedals for over 2 years now and have been pleased with them. I did have to get new bodies as the bearings disintegrated and embedded themselves into the plastic. The pedals have been paired to Wahoo Bolt v1 and have been fine. I replaced the Bolt v1 with the v2 because it’s shiny and has colours. :slight_smile: However, on a ride if I have stopped for over the 5 minute shut off and start off again I have no power reading. I carried on with the ride but noticed the left pedal lights are completely off, but the right pedal lights are fine. The only way to get the pedals to wake up is to connect them to the usb charger. Now, it doesn’t happen every time and I thought it was related to BLE connecting instead of ANT+, but I made sure the Bolt is connecting via ANT+. I seem to have fewer dropouts when the Wahoo companion app is not opened as it connects to the pedal via BLE. Favero has analysed the pedal data and concluded the left pedal’s battery is faulty causing random shutdown, but my experience is that it only started with a change of head unit. By the way, the cost of replacement is over 200 Euro. Does anyone else have similar problems? Any help is much appreciated.
@gplama
@gplama 3 жыл бұрын
I'd take their word for it. If the battery is faulty then it'll occur with other head units too. Maybe borrow one from a friend and test this.
@ChewyWahid
@ChewyWahid 3 жыл бұрын
@@gplama Thanks for the response, but it only started with the new head unit. I'll keep monitoring the situation ensuring the Wahoo app or any other is not trying to connect with the pedals. Furthermore, it only occurs when stopped AND with other riders present, which may mean possible BLE issues? We shall see... thanks Tuhin

I went for the Garmin RC XC200 instead. The Garmin were 25% off on my country, they are still marginally more expensive than the Assioma DUO but what sold me the Garmin XC200 was how regular they look, no big ass sensor that can be bumped and NO built-in internal rechargeable battery, in my experience internal batteries on the long run will fail and you lose all the component along with it, AND replaceable bodies. Granted, I know the replaceable batteries on previous iteration of the Garmin power meters had some issues, but everything I've read about the XC200 shows that Garmin got the battery compartment nailed down this time and no issues for the reviews I've read. Knock on wood with my pair.

@BlazingBigJointz
@BlazingBigJointz 6 жыл бұрын
JoeLugar looks to be cheaper than dzero and less weight added. Dzero is 1.5% accuracy, Assioma is 2.0%. As Shane showed, these pedals add 50 grams weight to the bike compared to Dura Ace pedals. For the crank.. It adds about 150 grams if I go to dzero from my red 22 cranks. In terms of cost, pedals are A$1200 and dzero cranks are $1600 plus chainrings... I'm buying these babies, hard to justify the extra cost for cranks that add more weight. Thanks Shane 🙋
@JasperAnderswelt
@JasperAnderswelt 6 жыл бұрын
ok, seems to be best choice for you. But if you would buy just the dzero spider you can save some money maybe. The spide alone is compatible with the red cranks you already have. For me the assioma add ~100g compared to look keo carbon ti. The quarq red crankset add's just 50g compared to my installed force cranks.
@BlazingBigJointz
@BlazingBigJointz 6 жыл бұрын
JoeLugar unfortunately my cranks don't fit the add on spider, thanks for the tip! They are 2015 model. The dzero cranks with black rings are beautiful and would be as small cosmetic facelift. I plan to get another bike in the next year or two so the pedals will save me buying another power meter... Happy riding 😎

I got the UNO version and I am pretty happy with them. Two litte issue I would like to mention, I was very surprised, that the included cleats got no axle mark, so it is a little bit guessing to adjust them. And the other thing is, that I have seen a variance of -15/-20 watt compared to the values of my Elite Direto in Zwift - I assume the reason is my paddeling technique.
@aluminey
@aluminey 6 жыл бұрын
Same here with uno compared to direto. Its same at 150-200 watts, at 250-300 about 10-15 watts less that direto and 300-350 15-20 watts. But different in power is consistent, so no problem here.

Favero pedals are self serviceable, which is a huge plus for me as bearing will need replacement as much as battery. Yesterday I gave a look to the vector 3 of a friend and after 3 months they were already less than acceptable smooth for me. About batteries, Favero sells the complete sensor+battery alerady. cycling.favero.com/shop/left-pedal-axle-with-sensor-assioma Quite expensive when you compare to the full pedals, but as you noticed with the quark technology advances and in 3-4 years there might be advantages upgrading. Finally, Li-ion batteries of the Assioma ages in cycles (most often 500) which leaves a lot more time than 3-4 y as described in the video for an average cyclist.

i was watching another video and saw this older one on the right. thought id make a comment to help others thinking of buying: ive had the assioma for about 2 years now (around 12000km) and so far they have been aces. coldest day was probably -15C, been though asian monsoons x10, and +40C heat plenty. they are found instantly by my garmin 520+ (and my really old 500 for a few months before i got the 520+). they are also found instantly by my tacx neo. also-I actually crashed at about 40kph and totaled a rd, handlebar, right shifter, and the right assioma pedal. turned out it was the body only (it was just a matter of not being able to click in well). i bought a new body (yyou can find them on a few web sites inc. the assioma site) and swapped it for the one that crashed (i think it was 50 dollars - imo, not cheap but not outrageous either and i was just grateful it was an option). it took about 5 minutes with a multitool, maybe 10 max, to swap the body (but using the old spindle-where the sensor is). hopped on the bike, tested with neo -bam! all the same numbers as before the crash. that was 6 months ago and everything is going perfectly to date. ps-i use the grey look cleats

Hi Shane, thank you for the really precise comparison on the different measurement systems. I just got me a pair of Favero Assioma for one of my bicycles. I own the same crank and I'd like to upgrade it, too. Thank you for your answer in advance! Stephan

Shane, I am waiting patiently for my new Assioma Duos to arrive this week. I have a Garmin Edge 1030+ , would data screen would you recommend I use? I also use the Traffic Radar field for my Varia. cheers

3 second average power is always a good one. If you have a larger field to use then Graphical -> Power Graph is a good one too. See this video for details on that one: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9ZiaNqb1arGqZ8.html

These Favero Assioma power meter pedals with a encased integrated pod, and a simple pedal body with no electronics, that can be cheaply replaced if damaged, or replace worn bearings yourself is stunning!!! With the Shimano Patent for the SPD MTB pedal expired on 4/6/2019,, after 20 years, do you think they will come out with a SPD MTB pedal body to suit the pod and shaft?

Hi Shane, just got the Assiomas and they are great. Quick question, do you reckon you need to use an additional washer on Ultegra cranks? There is a small recess but there still appears ample room between the pod and the crank without the washer. Cheers. P.S. Awesome review.

Mr Lama man. Thanks for the review. If I’m super lazy. Can I use them independently on two bikes. Or is the right pedal only functional by being a left master. Hence the uno left.

Are the centers of these pedals further away from the crank arm than "standard" pedals? If not, can they be used with the "limb-saver" pedal extensions?

Hi Shane, thanks for the great review! Would you recommend a pedal power meter over a crank power meter? Much appreciated!
@gplama
@gplama 5 жыл бұрын
It depends. Pedals are MUCH easier to install and are a lot more compatible with things. Cranks require bottom bracket matching, crank lengths, and frame clearance. There's pros and cons of each. Pedal power meters are really easy to install now though.

I wish there were a way to search comments. You wouldn't happen to know how to do a factory reset on these, do you? I just installed mine. I registered first, and updated the firmware, but had problems and it went to the bootloader. Upon riding around, I have no power, no cadence on my Garmin 830. I rode around for more than an hour, so it's not the initial setup thing. I loaded up the Wahoo Fitness app, paired it, and it says N/A for power and cadence, so something is definitely wrong.

Hmmm. I'd connect them to the USB power (to ensure they're both awake). Then load the mobile app to see if you can connect to them and sort things out.

Great review, Shane. Now that all things are practically equal, would you recommend these or the PowerTap P1 pedals? I've been staring at my computer screen for a week and can't decide. The only thing I am hesitant about on the Duos is the possibility of damaging the pod. As for the P1 pedals their only downside seems to be their size.
@gplama

Entirely your call what to go with. I'll be even less helpful and throw the Vector3 into your mix... once they sort out the battery cap/housing issue. Stay tuned on that.

At least with the Vector3 I have the extra $200USD price tag to help with the decision, haha. The features/price of the P1 and the Duo just make the decision very difficult. Do you think the worry about the pod on the duo is a legitimate concern?

The pod on the Duo wasn't any dramas. It's a solid little thing.

Okay Shane...just charged and then installed the Assioma Duo’s today. Went to update firmware and both pedals said that the firmware is up to date. Did a zero offset calibration and thought I was good to go. Until I saw that there is a choice to make as if you want the data to be transferred single through the left meter or individually via left and right. Which is the best way for the data to be transferred to your head unit? The default is via the left pedal only. Your expertise is needed here!
@gplama
@gplama 4 жыл бұрын
Single via the left when they're in DUO mode. That way you'll get both L/R in a single connection/channel (which is what is required for all head units at this point).

Wow. Stack height changes so much between pedals. Can't believe people obsess about their crank length so much when it can be completely offset by something like this.
@gplama
@gplama 6 жыл бұрын
Crank length is still important. That affects the diameter of the pedal stroke, and the leverage. Stack height only offsets it a little.
@philadams9254

I don't know, 5mm is not a little, when people get religious about wanting 175mm vs 170mm cranks. Some of the MTB SPDs I've just seen go up to 9mm!
@gplama
@gplama 6 жыл бұрын
Stack height doesn’t change the pedal circle diameter though. Thinking about it on a 2D plane. 175mm cranks are longer in every direction of the pedal stroke. Stack height is longer in the vertical only. Depending on foot angle throughout the stroke, it has a different effect.
@steveoc64
@steveoc64 5 жыл бұрын
Shane Miller - GPLama assuming of course that the relative position of the shoe to the pedal spindle remains constantly orientated in the vertical plane, then yeah - the cyclist's foot goes through the same diameter circle as the pedal spindle, regardless of the stack height. The centre of the circle is vertically offset by the stack height, thats all. The stack height would increase the diameter of the circle that the foot rotated through, if the angle between the shoe and the crank arm remained constant (ie - the peddle spindle did not rotate, but was fixed to the crank). This is possible, but would require that the cyclist be thrown from the saddle on each peddle stroke, and then fit their entire body between the pedal and the road on the low sweep of the crank. Rinse and repeat on each cycle. Any added leverage gains from doing this would definitely be offset by the downsides. Not recommended at all.

Good work Shane. Are any of the axle bearings on the Pedal based PM's adjustable? I've never had pedal bearings that have really failed and needed replacing, but I've had to adjust plenty to remove play.
