Thank you for the Omnibus update!! I'm still pondering that one for my upcoming 7th/8th grade student. I am also pondering Heart of Dakota. I'm excited to look more into Notgrass as well. They were at the GHC, and I kept wanting to stop by the booth, but I had already purchased TOG for the year:) Thanks for sharing your incredible wealth of knowledge. I just love your videos!!

For my first 4 years of homeschooling I used Sonlight (and still kind of am) but this year we went with Homeschool In the Woods for History and we are almost done with our Civil War unit. I know my oldest has loved all the projects (I'll have to see what the other 2 think). And Apologia Astronomy using their notebooking journals. I am loving both of those myself and find them both interesting what I'm learning! Oh and IEW for writing and grammar for my oldest.

You held up three of my all time favorites! We loved Notgrass Uncle Sam and so we went on to use two more years of Nothrass History in High School and it did not disappoint! My all time favorite History! We have used MathUSee more recently in High School and found it a wonderful fit. We used BJU Press distance learning Math up until 10th. We had some trouble with the higher maths, but loved elementary through 6th. Veritas Press Omnibus 11 and 111 were also the best all time literature and Bible courses for us! We are currently using Time4learning English 4, and although it’s working and enjoyable, it doesn’t really compare with veritas self paced.

I always get excited to hear that other homeschool moms are loving some of the same curriculum that I do! Thanks for sharing about BJU math and MUS. I have been curious about the upper level BJU Distance Learning courses.

Always love your reviews. We have used Math U See and I keep wanting to love, but my kids do not. We are on lesson 17 in Alpha, what level of BJU math would be the most appropriate if we switched curriculum?

Sorry for the late response. I'm assuming (if you are using Alpha) that your child is in kindergarten or first grade. If so, I'd go with the BJU curriculum that matches your child's grade level. Hope that helps!

My regards and thanks for all the comments have helped me a lot, since I am looking for the best curriculum for my daughter who is in 4th grade, we are a Christian family that we are serving as missionaries in El Salvador, and one of the difficulties and challenges is my daughter's school, but I want to ask if anyone knows the Abeka Christian cirriculum, and if some one know about it, would you give your opinion please..

Abeka is a great curriculum. I personally prefer BJU Press over Abeka but that is just a personal preference. I know many who use and love Abeka. There are so many wonderful curriculum choices out there. Any specific reason you are considering Abeka? And thank you for serving the Lord in El Salvador! We have friends who are also serving in El Salvador. :)

@@JanelleKnutson I have been searching for programs for 2 years since my daughter started grade 2, I taught her grade 1, 2, 3 and now in grade 4 she needs to learn more specifies things , and I don't feel able to teach them, for several reasons: 1 because the first language is Spanish ( from Cuba ), I have poor grammar and pronunciation in English, and because I am not a teacher. and I'm very afraid that my daughter will be behind in her school and that will affects her later in her future life. A Canadian missionary who is, now in El Salvador as a missionary mention the program, and I checked it in the interned and I looked good because I do not have to prepare classes, I just have to maybe supervise and review the work, I do not have to explain any content because the program has all the recorded classes and it seemed good because they teach the bible also, but in reality I have not checked other programs ,so I asked you your opinion, but I will check BJU press. It would be great to meet more Christian missionaries, my husband preaches here in El Salvador, we are Cuban-Canadians and we have been serving here for almost 4 years. Give my @ them to contact me. thank for your help:))

My 12 year old daughter does not love reading but she is mine who has known for three years that she wants to go to college and pursue a music degree. So, I know how important it is for her to be able to break down literature. I also know that if she attends a secular college (and most likely she will) how important it is for her to understand why we believe the way we do. The Omnibous course sounds awesome. What is the difference between the primary and secondary? Also, does this curriculum take a stand on controversial issues between Christians; such as "is creation a literal 24 hour day"? I watched parts of the sample lesson and I saw three men discussing this. I just don't want to get a curriculum that goes against what we believe. Would this course be a nightmare for her since she doesn't love reading?

From what I can gather, Omnibus primary is the main part of the course and covers the history part plus literature and Bible/worldview. The literature in the primary course corresponds to the time period being studied. The secondary course is mostly literature and worldview/Bible. A lot of the literature readings are worldview/Bible related. I think the course would be enjoyed the most by someone who likes to read however, the self-pace course has the video/lecture component which could make the course a bit more enjoyable than just reading and analyzing the required readings on their own. Veritas Press seems to lean towards a Reformed view and these views do come out in the course. For example, the Omnibus 1 Secondary course has the student reading "Chosen by God" by RC Sproul which is a defense of predestination. I'm pretty sure they take a literal 7 day creation view as well.

So your daughter is just doing Secondary Omnibus? That's great that you don't necessarily have to do both.

I will be homeschooling next year for my son who will be in 8th grade. He has just been diagnosed with a learning disability for reading comprehension. Do you think this would be to tough for him? Veritas press. He excels in math.

Veritas Press Omnibus is literature based and ideal for kids who love reading and do well with reading. Notgrass history has some great curriculum for history and it has an option to add in literature. Essentials in Writing also has a literature curriculum that is DVD based.

Welcome to homeschooling! And well done for prepping well in advance! I don’t know if this suggestion would be helpful but does the option of reading aloud or listening to it on an audio offer a solution? I did Omnibus and found some of the readings were awesome :) and some were challenging even for me. No matter the restrictions you are in a wonderful place that you have the opportunity to choose combinations of literature that will be both fun and challenging at your son’ level - as we all have balanced for ours in their strengths and limitations, too. We still did a lot of reading out loud during high school because slowing it down allows for your guidance and comprehension in real time. You are the master of your homeschool!!! LOL Have a wonderful time!
