Yep. the old Side One in particular was stellar. Reaper was probably better live in 81 although Buck's guitar at the close is great when he throws in the Gil Blanco County riff. The later additions of "Harvester" & "ME262" were bang on, should have had the bottle to find "Nosferatu", "Morning Final" etc in live versions,

Cheap trick At Budokan, for me. The original release was a single live album that should’ve been a double live album, but then they put out Budokan II in 1994 with the rest of the set from that show. If you want more, go get the 30th anniversary edition cd and dvd, which has both Budokan performances from 1978

On the subject of Band Of Gypsys, that album was put out to comply with contract agreements stemming from Jimi’s previous contract signings prior to his time with Chas Chandler managing. He owed Capitol an album (even though his regular record label was Reprise) so they put out Band Of Gypsys as a quickie live album with all new material to get past that release requirement. Damn fine album considering the circumstances for its release. Other live album I would put in the should have been a double album is Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush Live.

I would love to see more people acknowledge Canadian band April Wine. I’m from Toronto and April Wine was my first concert. Their live album from 1974, just called April Wine Live, kicks ass with heavy guitars and an amazing drum solo from Jerry Mercer. The songs included are: Mama It’s True; Druthers; Cat’s Claw; I’m On Fire For You Baby; The Band Has Just Begun; Good Fibes; Just Like That; You Could Have Been A Lady. Again, if your not familiar with this band and you wanna crank up the raw energy of guitars, this album kicks ass!

A few albums that come to mind are: Soft Machine - Noisette One of the greatest live albums, Noisette was cut to a single cd disk, leaving out the performance of Facelift, which had segments that were lifted and included for the version on Third. Noisette is a fantastic document of the band at their loudest, featuring the band in quintet form. In its released form, it would likely have been a double album, but with Facelift, it certainly would've been a triple album. 801 - 801 Live The official release was a great show, however, more songs would've been welcome, as they performed a number of other songs as a unit, including additional Eno tunes. More Quiet Sun songs would've filled out a nice double album as well. Guided By Voices - For All Good Kids Again another performance that had songs cherry picked for a single disk release. The full 44 setlist would've created a nice, full, probably triple disk release. This performance was recorded at Maxwell's in Hoboken during the band's first classic period.

Glad to see Pete mention Elton’s 11-17-70. Another 70’s single live album from Elton John was Here and There. This had the best version of Funeral for a Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding. It was later expanded to a double length album, with a guest appearance by John Lennon. Another single live album that was later expanded to a double length album was Whitesnake’s Live...In the Heart of the City.

The Guess Who, my hometown band, Live at the Paramount. Fantastic album, a single. Going by memory, ’73, or around there. No, ’72, I looked it up. “Running Back to Saskatoon” was a big hit on the radio. I heard that all the time on radio back then. I was a teen and bought the album, my first Guess Who.

Great once again. Thx to you two, Pete & Mike ! But I would like to add Blackfoot's "HIghway Song - live" from 1982 (recorded at Hammersmith, I guess). The band at their absolute peak, fantastic vocals by Rick Medlocke, brilliant twin guitars (Medlocke and Charlie Hargrett), and superb drumming by Jakson 'Thunderfoot' Spires (R.I.P.). And with the quintessential version of "Highway Song" on it. An absolute gem of a live album IMHO. Should have been a double as well.

I thought it was pretty cool when Mike mentioned the Penny Arcade in Rochester NY. It was basically our version of the Chance. I saw Talas there many times. Along with many other big names.

Both episodes with Mike have been superb. Great choices so I've chosen a few others. Would love to have a chat about great live bands/artists that never released a live album. 1. BB King Live at the Regal (all his single live albums were great but this is the best) 2. James Brown - Live at the Appolo 3. Muddy Waters - Live at Newport 4.. Zappa/Mothers - Fillmore East 5. Randy Newman - Live

Pink Floyd's "Ummagumma" could qualify as a single since the 2nd record is a studio recording. Also ZZ Top's "Fandango", is half a single live lp, the other half studio.

SRV and Double Trouble - In the Beginning ... I like the raw nature of that record, seems like Stevie could've easily played for at least another half-hour playing a few more songs off the first album plus more blues covers.

Did anyone have the Johnny Winter double album on vinyl where side 4 was totally blank but it had the traditional track marks as if there were 4 tracks but each one was silent. It was called Second Winter. On the Priest live album...in the UK when it was released in 79 there was a free EP with the first so many thousand copies with the live versions of Rock Forever, Starbreaker and Beyond The Realms Of Death

Will never forget that show !!! Great job love your channel and I saw single live albums and "fixing " a performance cheats the fans I want to hear the music as it happened!!! Rock on brother!!!👍👍👍

I remember at our record store in FL there was a cutout record bin..Cutouts were either promotional copies,or albums that were deemed nonreturnable ..Anyone remember that they released so many of the Kiss solo albums , anticipating huge sales ,but they all bombed.. (With exception of Ace's album)..You could get Gene,Paul, and Peter albums on cutout for .99 cents at KMart ..
