Is Brown overpaid? Yes. But it doesn’t hurt the Pacers in the slightest. They have to meet to cap floor anyways. And there’s a team option after the first year. Doesn’t hurt Indy whatsoever.

They can also trade him for an expiring contract and picks if a team thinks they need that 1 guy to get over the hump. And he provides some veteran leadership (even though he’ll only be 27 lol) and championship experience to a very young team.

Well yes and no. Now they have less playing time to give their young guys like Nembhard, the rookies we drafted, and Mathurin to an extent. My thing was if you're just trying to meet the cap floor then spend the money on a position of need (SF or PF). Carlisle likes to run 3 guard lineups I guess so maybe it'll be fine but idk I thought the pacers could have actually had a much much better offseason. For example trading for Anunoby or trying to sign someone like Cameron Johnson or Dillon Brooks.

I'm surprised people argue against Rui's contract. The dude was 13 and 4 on 50/60/80 shooting splits as a 4th option (on average) on the team, and played decent D, nobody could play him off the field, and he's freaking 6'9, big and strong. He fits on basically any team, and he's young, and he's improving by the day with Phil Handy. It's a perfectly fine contract in an NBA where Fred Vanvleet is a full max player, like give me a break. I'm a lifelong Pacers fan and here's my take on the Brown signing. I understand people are saying they needed to reach the cap floor but they have less playing time to give their young guys like Nembhard, the rookies we drafted, and Mathurin to an extent. If you're just trying to meet the cap floor then spend the money on a position of need (SF or PF). Carlisle likes to run 3 guard lineups I guess.. so maybe it'll be fine but idk I thought the pacers could have actually had a much much better offseason. For example trading for Anunoby or trying to sign someone like Cameron Johnson or Dillon Brooks. The payroll really suggested this would be the offseason we would make moves. This stand pat approach suggests we'll just do it next year but now we've guaranteed big money to Haliburton and even with Hield coming off the books next year I think we'll have less flexibility and assets even to make a good move or two.

Brown will probably play the three because of his defense and catch and shoot ability, where he is definitely an upgrade over Mathurin (who was really bad defensively) or Nesmith. For my team - Lakers - I see some looming problems : - Vanderbilt is offensively unplayable, so in tight games AD is the only elite defensive player that we can put on th floor...we still don't have a guy who can go back and forth with an elite wing and yet not also get burned in the process - night in and night out. The Nuggets still have KCP & Gordon to throw at us, and they ALWAYS have an elite defensive player on the floor to hold the fort. We get stops by committee. - By not bringing back Lonnie we are banking on Gabe, Hachimura, & Co. doing some heavy lifting to support the big two...we don't have a guy that we can feed consistently for multiple possessions in a series. Again, the Nuggets (I'm using them because they're the measuring stick) have TWO players who can do this PLUS MPJ, who can drop a 25-20 here and there. AD's every other game with this, and you don't want Lebron - at this stage - doing it, as him getting 30+ sucks movement, spacing, and opportunities from the rest of the team. - Injuries....we now have a strong bench and support, but if ONE of AD/LBJ goes down - again - for any length of time then I think any championship aspiration is done....those two just don't have bounce back in their blood anymore, and each has started to get consistent lower leg injuries now. Those never go away. I THINK that we CAN make some noise, but if our aim is to beat the Nuggets, then we need a better upgrade to our starting lineup - NOT Kyrie, God NO - without sacrificing our depth and flexibility......the funny thing is that NOW, Dame would be perfect, but, it would depend on the package, and we can't trade just signed players until the midseason. Fingers Xed.
@robertriteman3227
@robertriteman3227 Жыл бұрын
The most significant matter that I have noted ( i support an Eastern team) is that the Nuggets got weaker with the loss of real contributors Brown and Green and at this point they have not replaced them. Denver had a good break with respect to everyone being healthy during the playoff run. Not a Pacer fan or hater but no one onjectively would believe that based on the events of last year that the Pacers would ever do a Turner /Ayton deal especially given that Turner plays well with Haliburton. Not as impressed by the Suns moves as most people especially since the Player option terms makes most the resignings and signings effectively " no trade" clauses- the key is whether Eric Gordon returns to form or if he is an ineffective as he was with the Clippers ( if he returns to form then Suns have a very good shot). The signing and sums that Houston is given to FVV speaks greatly to how Udoko and the front office view Harden and Kyrie as being distractions or problematic in the development of young players deemed to the "future"
@vlada
@vlada Жыл бұрын
You have to hit the brakes with Uncle Jeff and even Bruce in 2nd unit (as opposed to playing with Jok on first unit) because the bench was bad this year.... very bad except for a stretch when Vlatko & Zeke were healthy and they say DJ). They had to stagger Murray coming off surgery on the 2nd unit because it was so bad. Secondly, you have to watch Uncle Jeff play during a season and not the occasional "Do you know he's 36?" dunks. He brings little offense, zero rebounding (playing 4-5) but can still play spurts of defense, understands the game and where to be and can muster a few dunks when needed. His presence on court is like having a coach, explaining to vets like Gordon what to do. But every honest fan wanted Jeff last year to play less/sit out games and give his 15min to Zeke, Vlatko, Watson, Braun ....because the 2nd unit was so bad. Everyone was thrilled for Unc when he finally won it but everyone agreed next season he should be in the DeAndre role: play in half the games at veterans minimum. So him getting that 6 million offer is great for him and will be missed in playoffs but there is a backlog of players who needed mins last year and more this year. This will force Malone's hand. The bench has to just be average next season which is still a big ask. But that whole "Team up by 12 when Jokic leaves, down 4 when he returns" has to stop like it did during playoffs due to defense and playing 7-8 players instead of 9-10.

If it was costing the Pacers other opportunities yes, but they aren’t losing any of the talent they intended to keep by bringing Bruce brown in, and if they decided for some reason to go after a blockbuster asset, they have plenty of cap space for them as it is, in fact they have to get there Cap up to meet the league minimum requirements. He’s on a team option, so even if next year they decide to make moves and go after big, high dollar signings, they simply have to decline the team option and he’ll be off the books. There is literally no downside to this and it could be hugely helpful to get a proven winner in here to be the coach on the floor for Carlisle and teach these young guys how to win.

In what world is Ayton better than Turner? Like defensively it's not even close, and Myles isn't some superstar defender overall, but the elite shotblocking and rim protection is levels above what Ayton gives you. And offensively Turner is definitely more versatile. They both average 18 a game, while Ayton is a slightly better rebounder, I'd rather have the guy who can space the floor and is an elite shooter for a center and also is a top 5 rim protector. Like I get Indiana wanted to sign Ayton a year ago but Turner just came off of his best season and they gave him that 2 year extension. Ayton is a couple years younger but it's not like Turner is old, he's 27. The only argument I can see is having Haliburton could theoretically elevate Ayton's game back up to a borderline All Star level, but even then, is Ayton a guy who actually cares about basketball? Idk doesn't seem like it the past couple years, but maybe the Monty situation was really that disruptive.

Its around 11 to 12 million, and Turner is going to demand Ayton-level money once his contract is done next year anyway, because he can get the 20 - 25 mil deal from another team (probably a better one) So the Pacers would just be paying extra for a year or two for a guy who's 3 years younger, and still has potential to be much better. The Suns never let Ayton actually expand his game or make mistakes, the Pacers won't have a problem with that, so he'll remain engaged (and he wants to be there anyway)

These guys and most of the rest of the media clearly hasn't seen Prince play the past 2 years. Everyone is talking about him like some 3 and D stopper. Lakers? So their two max stars can barely play 50 games per season. So only one of them is available for 40% of games and neither of them is available for 16% of games. Can the others still get them wins? If everyone is healthy, sure, they are a beast. But so is NO. Can’t live in hypotheticals.

I mean did you not see the Lakers record post All-Star game where they got those key role players guys from the trade? Lebron was also out for most of those games as well. AD was around but he wasn't at 100% either. Its clear that the D'Lo and Reaves along with Vando, Rui and Vincent can do some heavy lifting along either Lebron or AD in the regular season. Hell Dlo/Reaves group did much better as a supporting cast overall that Westbrook himself.
