@CogitoErgoCogitoSum Nope. The 12th root is based on doubling of octaves itself. Multiply a frequency by two and you'll get an octave. Divide the octave by 12 and you'll get the 12 notes in the cromatic scale. For them to be equally spaced, you have to, every time, multiply them by a number such that, when done so 12 times, it equals 2. Thus, we get the equation x^12=2. The only real awenser is the number used (12th root of 2). Unless an instrument uses only octaves or uses microtonal scales (both of which are rare), It will use this number.

6. The factors of 6 are 1, 2, & 3, which, when added together equal 6, which makes it a “perfect number.” Plus, 1, 2, & 3 are consecutive numbers, which is just awesome. I also just like the feel of the number.

It's a base-10 power of 2. It speaks to the interaction of computers and humans, of binary and decimal. A purely binary round number would be more like 2^16 instead of 2^10.

I am wondering, that noone actually picked some irrational numbers like pi, e or phi. My favorite number is 73, because it has so many interesting properties: > 73 is the 21st prime. Its mirror, 37, is the 12th prime (emirp number). 21 is also the product of the digits of 73, which are also primes. > 73 in binary 1001001 is a palindrome, which has 7 digits and 3 ones. Its digits in binary are 111 and 11, which are also palindrones. > 73 in octal is 111 and its the only prime that can be written with repeating ones in octal. > 73 in base 36 is 21 (index in prime sequence) > Its roman representation LXXIII contains 3 different numerals of the 7 possible numerals. > 73 is a star number, so you can form a star by placing 73 dots in a very specific way.

@NateROCKS112
@NateROCKS112 4 жыл бұрын
There are no infinitesimals in the real numbers. It's used in the definition of the limit to basically take advantage of this fact, called the Archimedian Property. You also need to include delta for a delta-epsilon definition. You're basically saying, for example, "this infinite sum isn't less than 2 or greater than 2; thus, it must be 2." Nonstandard analysis works, but even in that, if I recall, there's no concept of the smallest number, because otherwise calculus wouldn't work. This is because nonstandard analysis "real numbers" can contain more cardinalities than just Aleph-1.

Phi! I'm an artist and designing around it makes for such pleasing compositions. Its non-obvious relation to sqrt(5) (and thus its tangential relation to the pinwheel tiling), the elegant compass and straightedge construction of the ratio, and the way it shows up multiple times in a five-pointed star (and thus its relation to penrose tilings) are all super cool too. Just the idea that ϕ - 1 = 1/ϕ is pretty mindblowing. And last but not least, as a direct consequence of its status as the most irrational number (even though the idea that some irrational numbers are more irrational than others is VERY unintuitive), it makes for very efficient packings of objects, which is exactly why it shows up in sunflowers and such.

One year I was home sick when the team picked their shirts, and I ended up with 19. That year we won our division, so I felt it was lucky and from there on out I always wanted the number 19 shirt, and it was easy to get it because nobody else wanted it.

I like 64. When we were young, we were taught that every number had a pair, that when added together would equal 10 (kymppiparit in finnish). I really liked 64, more than i liked 91, 82, 73, 55, 46, 37, 28 and nineteen, not sure why, it just felt more.... stable. When i read more into it, i realize that it also had some amount of "prestige" - if you could call it that- to it. I never was one to memorize stuff so well, that it became instinctive. Thus learning 8 * 8 = 64, was a big achievent for me (i was like 8 or something mind you). Like it works in a nice way, 8^2 = 64, it has an whole number even square root. It just stuck with me i guess P.s minecraft's stack system had a non-zero amount of influence over the engraining of that number in my mind, but it was my favorite number before i played minecraft.

As someone interested in number theory, it's 30. The reason is if we had a base-30 number system, it would be easy to work with halves, thirds, and fifths of things since 30 can be divided by all of them. For example, if there was 30 ounces in a pound, a half of a pound, a third of a pound, and a fifth of a pound would all be a whole number of ounces. That would be SO convenient!

26, I started randomly using it in a bunch of things and thought it had a nice quality to it. I don't have synesthesia in the way people usually describe it but I do think specific colours work best with certain numbers. For me, 2 is yellow and 6 is red. 6 is coincidentally my favourite digit, I think that is related to the fact it is red in my head. In my language, we use the word "digit" a lot more than in English so that's why I have a favourite digit in the first place.

Tau. Easy. It's like Henry said: the underdog is the best. Add to that the incredible significance of tau generally found in more popular numbers, and you've got something truly incredible. From the more intuitive notion of tau than its ubiquitous cousin pi, to the astounding improvement of Euler's formula when using tau instead of pi, tau is an absolutely wonderful number that doesn't get enough attention.

73! LOTS of reasons... 7 + 3 = 10 73 is the 21st prime number (remember 21!) if you switch the digits, 37 and this is the 12th prime. if you switch the digits of 12 you get 21! (because 73 is the 21st prime) Plus, 21's factors are 7 and 3! Also 73 in binary is 1001001 which is a palindrome. :)

My favourite number is 7 because I feel like it's the most unusual. Not much is accredited to 7 compared to the other digits. 1 is vital, 2 is the basis for even integers, 3 is commonly used in counting, trios, trophies, 4 is made by 2+2 and 2×2, 5 is half of the digits in base 10 and the number of fingers on one hand, 6 is a product of two common numbers, 8 has 2 as a cube root, and nine has 3 as a square root. While 7 is a prime that is rarely used, and is the only number between 1-10 with two syllables. On top of that, it produces what is arguably the most unusual square number under 100: 49. And when you write 10 in the lucky number base 7, it comes out as the very unlucky 13.
@cumcad

I heard that 7 is the "loneliest number" between 1-10 for two reasons: You can have these product-relative pairs 1-2, 2-4, 3-6, 4-8, 5-10, 3-9, leaving 7 the odd man out. And then 1x2x3x4x5x6 = 8x9x10, again leaving 7 the lone wolf.

It is prime if read forwards or backwards, and if you split it up into 10, 10 digit numbers, each one of those will be prime, and, if you add the ten digits in each of those numbers, you get 56 for every one of them.
