Do you ever say oh I'm just gonna make a lil quickie video of something super simple just give them the basics and call it a day and then end up filming for an entire week and then once you're all done you realize your video is almost 2 hours long and there's no way your dinky iMac is gonna export a 12gb video but after you verbally threaten it to do the right thing it finally exports and you realize you never did a final watch through because it's almost 2 hours long like I just said so if there's something in there you weren't meant to see or me repeating the same thing 500 times in a row that's my bad
Anyway here are some tips and tricks about propagation and I'm sorry if you're not into tips and tricks but it's all I've got
If you watch this whole video you deserve an award preferably one made of 100% carbs

I am so bad about not commenting on KZfaq videos. I’m a pretty silent viewer, but I always thumbs up. I just had to say that this is probably the 15th time I’ve watched this video in it’s entirety. It is the best plant propagation resource I’ve found and I’ve learned so much from you, Charmaine. Keep up the amazing work! I look forward to every single video of yours. You’ve changed the plant game for me for the better thanks to your expertise.

Cinnamon is great to help dry up/callous open wounds or snipped ends pretty quickly. Plus it works as an anti fungal, antibacterial, and rooting hormone. First learned that in growing orchids, then in succulents, and now use it on all houseplant props.

I usually do mix in cinnamon into my hormone/sulphur powder mixture but I’ve been out for awhile and keep forgetting to buy more when I go grocery shopping 🤦🏻‍♀️ but it definitely is great for propagations! And an added bonus that your plants smell like Christmas 😍

Thank you for such an interesting video for a newbie. (I know it’s a year old but I had no plants back then lol) I grow absolutely everything in Leca. Succulents and all! The only plant I had a rot problem with was a Pixie Syngonium but I think it had some rot in it when it arrived, but it is now down to two wet sticks and a small cutting all washed in Hydrogen Peroxide🙁 I feel that this is a “Hail Mary” and I’m not hopeful - but as long as there is a little green, I will try and save it lol.

I’m a newbie to the plant world so thank you so much for the very detailed video. I found it relaxing, informative and funny all at the same time! I have a few questions, can you use both Marphyl and calmag in soil or only for hydroponics? Do you ever you these two for when you plant in pon, leca or moss? Also, do you ever put rooting hormone and hydrogen peroxide directly in the water as well? I have so many more questions but I’ll leave it here 😂 you rock!
@unplantparenthood
@unplantparenthood 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy!! I'm so happy you enjoyed the video 🥰 To answer your questions, I use Marphyl and CalMag in both soil and passive hydro plants. Right now I'm using a combo of Marphyl, Liquid Gold Leaf and Calmag in my pon, LECA and moss. As for the rooting hormone, I only use it to dip my cuttings and on roots. But I do add a drop of two of hydrogen peroxide in my water propagations if I'm dealing with root or stem rot! I hope that was helpful 🙈

I received a plant with leca on bottom and sphagnum on top. I’m used to sphagnum but not leca and esp not sphagnum + Leca. Should I only bottom water and let the leca wick the water up and not wet the sphagnum moss on top at all? Or should I moist the sphagnum moss + bottom water the leca?
@unplantparenthood
@unplantparenthood 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Erica! If it's in a pot with drainage, I would just treat it like you would a plant in purely sphagnum moss. But if it's in a vessel with no drainage, I would fill enough water to cover at least half or 3/4 of the LECA height and let the wicking do the rest! I hope that makes sense!
@tmsyquia
@tmsyquia 3 жыл бұрын
I have to root my thai constellation that had root rotc and i want to do the leca/perlite/moss combination you did. How long before it rooted? How did you put the water - did you fill it up until 25% where the leca is, then added the perlite, the plant, then the moss? Did you dver refill? If yes, how did you do that. Where did you keep it while waiting for it to root? Does it have to be in a greenhouse? Sorry for all the questions - i am obviously panicking! 😅
@unplantparenthood
@unplantparenthood 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Triccie! I'm sorry for the late reply and I hope it's not too late. Off the bat I'll tell you that my track history with thai con's is not the greatest but to answer your questions- It took about a month to see any roots on my monstera in that LECA perlite moss combo. And I always cover 25%-50% of the LECA just depending how thirsty the plant is. And I actually filled all the substrates and then added the water last! I like to always keep the water line at least 25% for maintenance and I just use a squeeze bottle to water along the edges of the pot to refill it. You can watch my sphagnum moss video for a how to on that. And I just kept it in my plant room on a shelf underneath a 20W light. Lots of light and warmth I felt were key in getting it to root. I didn't use a heat mat! Just used the warmth from the grow lights. If you have a greenhouse, that's ideal but not required. :) Don't panic! And good luck rooting!

That’s definitely not true about water, you can grow in only water long term! As long as you fertilize! It’s basically the same thing as leca or pon. I know quite a few people who only grow in water. And they have HUGE plants. Like very mature plants. Larger than I’ve seen some in soil. Lol But, love your videos! Always so informative, and love your energy! I’m not sure if I missed your disclaimer statement, but based on my experience you can still transfer water propagations into soil safely. Just gotta over water in the beginning and ultimately those water roots will acclimate in the soil substrate. Sure, there are chances the water roots will rot when transplanting in soil, but I’ve had success with that method.

Hej:) dont sift your perlite at all:) Rinse it right away, you may want to pour out first water to toilet - to avoid cloging 👋🏻

Hello! I always sift it first because I don’t feel comfortable putting that much perlite dust into the waterways. If you have grass or outdoor space, you can just rinse straight from the bag but I live in an apartment so I would much rather sift out most of the dust and throw it away and then rinse after. :)

Ok:) this dust scares me :) i rinse my perlit directly to toilet, i think it less likely to clog than sink:) and ofcourse i do it very rarely.

@@rafalz9275 You're completely right! Dust scares me too, haha. I usually sift outside with a mask on. Luckily I don't have to do this very often as well!
