Hey mike, the kit is nice. Suggestion for you, I would put Velcro on my pen and the top of the bucket. It will make it very handy and you won't have to go searching all around the container. I find that when I need a pen I always need it NOW. Take care and may God bless you and yours

chlorhexidine is used for cleansing or cleaning as it does not burn an open wound. I use it for my puppies for cleansing the umbilical chord and then I finish off with iodine once I have I cut the chord. Once cleaning with the Chlorhexidine the iodine does not burn the open end.......just FYI for you.

The blue solution is a great disinfectant watered down I watch a dog groomer that uses it to disinfect her grooming truck! I think it’s 3 to 1 ratio! That’s a great bucket I might had a little notebook or printout of your cows and pencil in there if you want to quick write down some notes on a calf!

I'd say a taller bucket, and the addition of a bucket skirt tool caddy. Some tools can hang outside, some need to stay clean and dry on the inside of the calving bucket. Safe travels, Mike and Erin. -EZ

You need one of those litter buckets the tall yellow one. That would hold everything and paper towels. You should make two-buckets with supplies and place in the three vehicles you will use in the winter.

Very informative video! Maybe add the smaller gloves, a small notebook/ink pen and the markers you could write on the tractor windows until you were completed with mom/calf. Charged external battery for phone-for the Creators- who don’t want to miss anything. Just thinking outside of the box 📦! Oh and maybe some hand warmers because as I have seen many times you all still have cold 🥶weather, in April! I know each and every calf will be in the best of care of @OurWyomingLife! I hope everyone has a blessed week!

As this is the first time they have created a calving kit, I think it's one a great first run and second it seems like a great kit for new farmers in the cattle industry. As they will not have much knowledge about what they would need if they aren't generational farmers.

I would make it bigger - I would include sections to keep it organized and I would keep one in every vehicle. A hands free flashlight might also be nice.

Calving kit, well as you well know it's different everywhere. I just have tags and bander. South Texas, I deworme and fly spray when the time is right. Always love the shows, people question how I do things but hay it works no issues with calfs or heard so it has to be right! I guess lol

My wife laughs at me, I'm a weekend warrior. I'll work with cattle all weekend plus projects and watch youtube ever night about ranching. My favorites are you, sonne farms which you have personally met and Farmer Tyler Ranch. I think this cover most of the center of the country lol.

Chlorahexadine is used when we scrub for animal surgeries. It actually last longer as far as antibacterial properties go, use like iodine. It can’t go into eyes, otherwise it can be used just about every where else. Dilute with water like you do iodine (weak tea color) whether brown with iodine, or blue with chlorahexadine) both great products. (Lic Vet tech- nurse here)

If you take a short length of chain or twine and put it through the center of your paper towels, and then through the handle of your bucket, your towels will stay with your bucket

A piece of wood through the centre of the towel roll and it comes off easier. Then tie to bucket.

A 5 gallon size bucket with a gamma lid and this product would be perfect. 5 gallon bucket makes a good stool too.

I bigger bucket so it does hold the paper towel. I think a brighter colour bucket, yellow or orange so you can find it more easily. And a label on the bucket which says calving kit. You put in the tag gun but did you put in any tags? A snack and a can of something refreshing. A space blanket (plastic foil) for a calf to keep it warm. Hand sanitiser. A torch, I think you call it a flash light, and a wind up one, in case the battery runs down. I just came back from Egypt and they had not seen a wind up flashlight in security. They had everything out of my suitcase and then the guy went round winding it and showing it to his mates, he was just like a small child with a new toy. He had to call one of the bosses to approve it so I could fly with it.

Glad your thinking of year long investment in each cow and how the calving event may determine her success or failure. Calving is hands down the most stressful time of the year and being fully prepared may determine your success.

Mike... That calving kit was a pretty cool idea. I have watched your videos for 3 - 4 years now and I wonder if they make a calf warmer that could fit in the cargo box on the back of the gator? You might have to have a small Honda generator to power the calf warmer. But it would save precious time when it is snowing and cold to get the calf into a warm environment as soon as possible. The one gator you had the calving kit on looked like the bed was more than large enough but I'm not too sure about the gator with the cab enclosure. That one the cargo box looks much smaller. Not sure what the power requirements of a calf warmer is, if it requires 110 volts or if they make a 12 volt DC version.

I have thought of that, however now I have a heated gator so I could just put them on the floorboard and let the heat blow on them. Quickly get them to the shop or house after.

Ive thought about that very thing. But by the time I get the generator started and the calf situated I can be back into shop. If we calved farther away that would be a viable solution. Thanks Charles.

That really is a cool kit. If I may make a suggestion, they should take that Calving Guide and laminate those sheets into 8.5 x 11 and stick them into the buckets as well. It makes everything very handy. If they make the buckets a little bigger, then the paper towels will easily fit too. Can't wait to see those new babies - just a couple more months. Be Blessed!

Chlorhexidine is sometimes better than iodine because it doesn’t stain, but it does the same thing antimicrobial antibacterial.

That Im not positive about. I think every Rancher regardless of breed has had to pull some calves over there years.

Might want to add more gloves to the kit in case of multiple births & a larger bucket. A 5 gal bucket with a gama lid might be preferable. Have a great day 😊.

Where we are all calves get a shot of selenium. Maybe the phone number of your vet on the bucket in case somebody new comes upon a problem or needs to make the call for you? A small flashlight too, just in case?

I am glad FBN works for you however I have found they are not very responsive. They won't return phone calls and they only work for big operations. There is a 700 dollar yearly subscription fee which Is not feasible for a small farm.
