How am I feeling about yesterday's big announcements? Relieved, for starters. Very relieved. I know FDev are gonna be fighting an uphill battle this year, fiscally speaking, but the tone of the livestream gave me a lot more confidence in the game's future (short-term, at least). And am I feeling optimistic? To be honest, my optimism is banging hard against the protective barrier of cautious skepticism that I've built up over many years of ups and downs as an E:D obsessive. I'm a little afraid to say it, but...against all odds, I think 2024 just might turn out to be an amazing year for Elite (RNGsus willing)!

This is fantastic news. I was growing very tired of all of the negativity surrounding Elite, and FDev's silence was not helping. Then the layoffs and changes within the FDev organization really had me worried. It seems now like the internal changes at FDev are actually a positive and not a negative, and this is the most excited I've been for updates to this game in quite some time. Thanks CMDR Buur! o7

The new features are nice, and while I'm not into Power Play now, I am interested in seeing what they're doing with it. To me, the most important thing from the stream is that it's not a dead game and they actually have plans going forward

Well that's all very exciting, and I am glad to hear FDev is giving E:D some love. But I quit playing when I paid for Odyssey, only to have immersion broken when I landed on a planet and left my ship. I'm hopeful this new influx of development means they'll finally give us VR players what we should've gotten years ago, when Odyssey was released, nearly 4 years ago. Great video though - very informative and well-produced!

FDEV made it perfectly clear that ED definitely has a future. As I saw a few others put it... I was so relieved. But more than that, I'm feeling a bit vindicated. A few content creators had been negatively blasting Elite Dangerous. There was a precipitous decrease in ED content from many creators. This is understandable to some degree, but I want to thank the Burr Pitt for staying steadfastly committed to ED. It is in a league of its own, both ED, and the Pitt. At least four new ships, power play, and a new feature, and wooo hoooo a possible end, or at least a lessening focus on the Thargoid war. Anway, it was great news to hear. I'm 25k from the bubble and loving every minute of it. Thanks commander's Buur and Rheeney. o7

It's refreshing to see such a change. I hope it continues. It's like they finally realized they have one of the best games and there is so much more to be done. I like what I'm seeing so far.

At some point it would be great for FD to port this over to PS5 and Series X Now last gen isnt holding them back it really makes sense to get the extra revenue from consoles that could easily cope with the game as it stands now.

I'm a former CMDR hailing from the might Celestial Light Brigade and I wish the bubble well. To me however the recent announcements come with a very large grain of salt. Massive layoffs are NEVER a sign of focused investment. As an IT worker, I know what comes next. Tight timeframes, zero latitude on output and fewer people to do the work. This boils down to "the people can can find a job elsewhere and escape, do." Those who remain are usually unfit just for station keeping (unintentional pun) but with the lack of skilled people for technical leadership what I'm used to in these cases is momentum slows. XBOX my home was killed off, but I'm jaded about that as I grew wear of being a commander before that was announced. What I wish for the bubble is for it to be absolutely smashed. Shattered in to a thin wisp by an Armarda that was built. THEN, only then would all the story matter. Countless trillions in occupied worlds being exterminated and terraformed to ammonia (terraformed is the wrong word). I hope for the mission to matter. I hope for the battle lines to be the first thing you check when logging in not powerplay status. New backup colonies to be formed besides colonia. for the real possibility to be discussed that we could lose the war. The week we lose terra and hear that mars was glassed. A new major outpost formed on Titan. Ship supply limitations. You just buy what you can. Repair parts running low. Special weapons chaos, engineers moving towards the core, some just moved to colonia outright. The biggest problem with Elite is that the universe is shared but STATIC. Nothing matters. I have moved a ship in years yet have 2 dozen many corvettes and cutters, billions in the bank. There is nothing to fight for. Powerplay weekly grind for points was the final grind for me. IMHO, Elite does NOT need that. The players need to suffer. It feels like this announcement is nothing more than a "No dead yet" headline grabber after the space became crowded. Elite sat alone as THE most important space universe for so long it forgot what a real competitor was. I will never play starfield. My heart remains in this universe... I just can't bring myself to bother logging on for action that only happens where it doesn't count. Step 1 : Littoral destruction of a WHOLE PP power. Then let everyone wonder how this thing can progress against the bubble, then progress from there. No more silly PP games. Step 2 : Fdev engages with major factions who won the weekly bug hunt to set tactical directions and hen let thing play out. Increase player engagement. Make humans work together when this fails Step 3 : Infest planets with ground units. Step 4 : Build in stealth mechanics so humans can can fight back, but don't tell us how. Etc... Right now we have nothing to fight for.

Having a manual startup sequence for the ships would seal the deal for me.

New feature must be base building surely, the nod about "more coming" might be a new paid DLC with new planet types with flexible dev time

Not to be a sceptic but all this feels to me like "Here players have this cookie in the form of future development treats, we are in the S**t, but need to keep the community together in case we get a buyer or funding. So with that in mind here is something we might do at some point ... I can't give any specifics of WHAT it is or when we will deliver it exactly. On top of that .... cause we know you want them, here are some more ships .. new ones ... well I say new, they will be variants of the old ones but still new, just new without any effort from us." Sorry to be a naysayer but i just don't have any faith in FDEV or the project as whole anymore. They won't get my game time or support. This is all a spin from the new PR company.

These announcements made me log back in to the game after not bothering for over a year.

My thoughts on the new ship varients - I'd say there'll be -- Orca mk 2 - just because only the Dolphin can do luxury passangers from outposts at the moment. -- Type 7 - again set up for outposts to compete with the python mk1 -- A new Asp - to make up for the Asp scout And a Cobra mk 5 - because I expect a new small ship variant

Panther Clipper, of course - and some sort of light carrier might be nice. Something with a capital ship FSD, but reduced in capabilities and not as overwhelming in size and upkeep.

Panther Clipper, Puma Clipper, Griffin and Boa - would be amazing ship additions from the previous games...

Excited about a new feature, and the speculation of what it could be.

As a Fleet Carrier owner, the smaller feature i want is to be easily able to manage fit outs of ships for different missions.. as an example, i own 3 Anacondas, 1 for mining, 1 for exploration and 1 for combat/ cargo because i can't be bothered refitting all the modules for each build. So much easier to just have duplicate ships However, excited by the updates and for the future of the game

Elite, in it's current incarnation, has, for the most part, (too many caveats yet?) been about player experiences that need to be discovered and, in some cases, solved to get / see / do a thing. The mystery element is what keeps me in this galaxy, but it's that very contrivance of a mystery that creates specific challenges around what is and should be shared and teased prior to the in game reveal. But there are other aspects to the game and gameplay that can evolve through each release that can be shared and used to offset the lack of 'spoon feeding' for the mystery elements. In that regard I think the tone of the live stream was on point. While I'm here I wanted to take a moment to comment on the wonderfully creative Elite community and how they have been previously celebrated on livestreams. We didn't see any of that on this week's Unlocked livestream and it's inclusion would have been especially challenging in a multi-title event. I hope FDEV, by leveraging the expertise of third party consultants, can find the appropriate platforms upon which to recognize and applaud the galaxy expanding creativity of it's player base. o7

What a positive development! I'm very glad to see FDev opening up communication and very clearly planning some great things with Elite in the coming months. Powerplay 2 should be interesting!

From what I hear, there was a lot of internal strife going on FDev. It seems that the change of leadership might’ve done something good. I know the new ships are going to reinvigorate my interest in the game.

I'd also like to see an exploration-focussed carrier variant. Much smaller, sleeker with a 180+ degree view area bridge, less cargo capacity, only a few hangars, and sips at the tritium at 10% the rate of the bigger ones. Cost can stay almost the same. 4 Bill say.

Did anyone pick up on when he discussed the other feature, and at first he didn't really understand how it could be used but then realized how cool it could be and when you could see 'what could go into it', ship interiors? Keep in mind Arthur always mentioned about how interiors would be pointless, and so isnt going to suddenly act like its amazing. Maybe I'm fooling myself :L Great news for elite though! I'm feeling optimistic enough to go back playing.

Frontier are working hard to implement this new feature, which is the ability to walk around on your ship, and its a big part of why they are only making variants and are hesitant to make new ships. Source: i made it up

Thanks for your synopsis of the livestream, CMDR Buur. As a lover of the game, I'm hopeful FDEV can pull all this off. On the other hand, wondering how they'll manage all of it given the recent "reductions in redundancies". Regardless, I wish them well and am looking forward to finding out what a Python Mk II is capable of.

Reworked power play will feed very nicely into base building which will help expand/colonise existing/new sytems resoectively. We also know they did have base building planned a long time back. Having said that DB did promise us dinosaur hunting.

As much as I was hoping the rework was gonna be for engineering, power play is certainly a good second choice. Definitely curious about the brand new feature and ooooooh yeah more ships will always make me happy!

Buur, thank you for your succinct information and well thought out expressions. ED is one of a kind, and so are you! For the ship type(s) we'd like to see, how about a Clipper that was more like a battle-cruiser than it's current sleek lined appearance, with the offensive capabilities to go along with it. Or perhaps a big brother to the Corvette or Anaconda. I never understood why one of the biggest ships was called a "Corvette" (A corvette is a small warship. It is traditionally the smallest class of vessel considered to be a proper [or "rated"] warship.). Then again, a new class of ship between the "big 3" and carriers, like maybe a Dreadnought Class?

Great to hear they're putting more into the game. I've put a lot of hours into it and would love and excuse to come back.

I'm with you. I'm cautiously optimistic. I hope this means things are changing for the better but I'm still in a wait and see place. I do miss Frameshift and don't really care much about the other games, but I get it. It is more cost effective, and if that's part of a more general overhaul that gets us more communication and progress on the game then I'll live with it!

This has me very excited. I really like what I'm hearing. I'm hoping to get the Moray and Boa from original elite, along with either the Panther Clipper or the Type 8. Also, Powerplay is begging for an overhaul. I was hoping they would streamline hauling, but this will be huge. This CG looks interesting as well. This week is going to be very busy for me in Elite - my powerplay faction (AD) is expanding, we have an interesting CG, and the Booze Cruise is coming up. CMDR Buur, have you ever covered the Booze Cruise on Witchspace News? It's a really fun player-run event organized by the Pilots Trade Network.

The best news I've heard in a while. I think ED is far from dead. All it needs is some tweeking...like this. It still has many years left in it. The only thing that might be better would be an entirely new version of ED.

Frontier know just what to say to keep people playing. They have always had every intention. Always. Yet here we are. If they, somehow, _actually_ make good this time, it will be the first time I am surprised by FDEV, in the last 10 years. I'd love to see the game actually come out of it's coma. I know better than to trust Frontier, and neither should anyone else. What matters is action, not excitable chatter.

I've sat out the entire Thargoid war. I'm not a rich CMDR and not great at combat so I didn't want to risk all the rebuy screens. I'm hoping to return when the dust settles. I'm also keen to see Odyssey content in VR, if that is ever allowed to happen.

Keep up the good work Mr Buur Pit. Your refreshing views and analysis on KZfaq are a shining beacon. Too many people in this world are looking for a negative angle because they are either looking for likes or pandering to the modern disease of spreading bad news when there should be none.

For most of Elite’s history I’ve been on the outside looking in until about a 2 years ago when I started playing. I had heard tale of previous expeditions and community events that to a new player like me sounded like legends, but with so many KZfaqrs stating that elite was dying and there being little information from frontier themselves I’ve been playing thinking that any moment could be the “sorry we’re closing the servers” announcement. This stream to me at least as someone who has only heard second hand accounts of frontier behavior seems to indicate that Frontier has finally started to value and wants to be a part of the elite community. These announcements have given me hope that there is still much more to come, and that my explorations won’t be cut short

Very good news. Might even go back to play the game again. Whats important for me, is the explorer part of the game. And although theres no plans in that direction soon, the volume of contentcoming in other areas, males me really optimistisk about exploring content in the future.
