1.18.18 / by Adam: “BATH BEACH, Brooklyn - One of the most intense fires I've filmed. I arrived twenty minutes after the fire began, and just after the second alarm was transmitted. I couldn't see much as I walked through the smoke to find where the fire was. I then found a nice spot in front a car crouching down to get out of the way of the firefighters. I've never seen them in such stressful conditions with tons of smoke coming out of the building, making forced entry with saws as fast as they could, and the fearless battalion chief seen leading from the front. A great job well done by Ladder 172 and FDNY today! Fire started at 4am and was under control at 7am. There were two minor firefighter injuries.”

Wow, Once again NYC 911 News was first on scene and provided us with an outstanding video of this 3 alarm fire involving 5 stores. Adam, you were so close to fire fighting operations it makes the viewer feel as if he or she was there in person standing right next to you watching FDNY fight this fire.. FDNY did an awesome job fighting this fire and eventually bringing it under control. Adam, you did a spectacular job covering this incident for your KZfaq viewers and subscribers. I know it's not the biggest fire you've covered but it's certainly one of your best efforts to date. Please stay safe and continue the excellent work,

Thanks tommy i knew you'd love it. I just the news stations could afford to pay for such quality video and not resort to freebie footage from crappy cell phone citizen video. I was dissapointed in the stations but I will never regret filming this fire, which I consider one of my best so far.

I went from crouching in front of a car to having my tripod sitting on the hood of a car, to having the tripod on the side of the building on a fruit stand lol

Adam, It' hard to understand why the local media would choose to use two bit cell phone footage over the phenomenal video footage you shot of this 3 alarm fire in Bath Beach. In the past I've seen your work shown on local television news stations as well as local news paper websites numerous times. I know this must be very discouraging for you but I hope you and your colleagues continue covering emergency incidents within New York City because your work is awesome and we all appreciate it very much. And I definitely agree with you. Just like I said in my original comment. I believe your video of this fire is some of your best work to date.

One of the times FDBY fought into the smoke, prevented a flashover and came out the victor. No matter what those armchair firefighters say... A firefighter's job is never easy.

I recently saw a video of Japanese firemen on a possible multi-building fire. They had no ladder trucks at all but 20 minutes in had 8 ground hoses trying to save building on the left.

I live up the block and these were me and my friends stores to go to get food when we hung out! I don't think that Carvel will reopen. The last time I spoke with the owner, he said the price of dairy is so expensive which is why his prices are so high for ice cream.

I’m no doctor ....but he appears to have some pretty good 2nd degree burns on his face, ears, and neck. His PPE also has some charring. Id say he took a nice little beating inside.

J Walker I’m sure after a few days of silvadene cream he was right as rain. It doesn’t take much to second degree your face. That hood is no guarantee and if you have any gaps in coverage they will quickly be exploited in that heat condition....Especially with how that smoke was billowing and pushing violently under pressure. That was a deadly/scary condition. And you can see why. The fact they/ he didn’t pull out a little sooner with only having that one 2 1/2 operating and flowing and no change in smoke conditions initially scared the shit out of me. You can see it took a second 2 1/2 to finally calm it down and then that even took a few moments. That’s about as far as you can ride it and not get everyone burned up. Had someone came up and blown those front windows out at that point I think we may have seen an even uglier outcome. You can see the other chief finally screaming and hollering to back out. In other words we just watched a near miss. Also after he comes out. And this is purely my opinion. You can see he’s lost his wits a bit. And appears to have complete tunnel vision. and rightly so . You could probably do a quick search and find out about how long he was/wasn’t in a burn center for ? Anyways dude has my mad respect. We need more chiefs like him. Off related to this. The dept. I work for had some stations where guys were double hooding. They thought it was cool to see if they could distort their mask pieces and come out unscathed. Well after a few mask lenses melted from the same stations and a few burns it got out what these idiots were doing. They had to put out a dept directive. Stating no double hooding allowed. Imagine your dept telling you. You can’t be extra safe. But it was because guys weren’t trying to be extra safe. They were being extra stupid.

They completely rewrote the rules after 9/11. They are still aggressive, yet extremely methodical as well. Also it was determined early on that these buildings were remodeled with 'lightweight' construction which I think should be outlawed.
@bradlarden
@bradlarden 5 жыл бұрын
Yep, I couldn't agree more. Searching the building first doesn't actually make sense to me. Put the damn fire out asap and it takes less resources to do the job. Look at the number of firefighters just standing about doing nothing ! Argh !

I believe as a firefighter in this city that it was hard to determine where the fire actually was. The wind was whipping the smoke creating a very hot and maybe unattainable entrance way. You don’t put water on smoke...period. It was probably from the basement with no sidewalk access and zero visibility. They decided to cool it down with a 2 1/2 inch line until conditions , as per the chief on scene, per permissible to access. The lightweight construction and possible collapse is always in the back of your mind. These are very experienced companies.

Quick question. At the 5 minute mark there are loads of firefighters standing in a group right in front of where the thick toxic flammable gases are punching out of the front of the building. That exact spot is probably the most likely spot for a flashover or even worse a backdraft .Why do you not make the area safer by reducing the numbers in that area and make sure everyone who is in that area has SCBA on to protect them. Do you not have a safety officer who is responsible for this?

So your that guy huh? Mr.perfect that watches a video and critiques it from your vast Fireground experience ? Oh no the little cute facts you learned in your little small town Fire academy . I know you never worked in an aggressive city FD that had real brotherhood cuz if you did you’d never post a sad comment like that & your not that bright because your asking a gentleman questions who filmed the Fire as though he is the Division Chief that was running this job ! Those Men are members of the FDNY and that seems to make u feel inferior or jealous prob both I’d guess ! So instead of criticizing the best FD in the world, just watch and keep your little comment to yourself and be in awe of a FD you could only dream of standing in front of a taxpayer pumping thick black smoke with bro ! Cuz trust me your comment didnt impress anybody dude , it just quickly exposed you for what you are ...A jealous, sad want to be who never got on the job
