FDNY ladder 6 is seen here responding to a call. While leaving the fire house the engine is dispatched at 00:35 to a medical call. That house is also known as the "Dragon Fighters".
Einsatz für die Feuerwehr New York. Während die Drehleiter 6 ausrückt wird ebenfalls das Löschfahrzeug 9 zu einem medizinischen Notfall alarmiert.

I'm volunteer from RI. When I was a kid a few of us used to drive to New York to buff. There was a Lt. Mahaney who used to work at this station. He was very kind to us. We were just 3 kids 2 15yo and 1 17yo. Lt. Mahaney always welcomed us like family. We would ride along on calls, have meals and even spent a few nights there. Very classy and friendly crew. A lot of union firefighters have no use for volunteers. Not them.

I’ll give it a try… by state law red is the Emergency color of the lights. The clear lights are the brightest, simply because they are not filtered by a colored lens, and are used to get people’s attention. The reason there is a blue light to the rear is it is distinguishable to approaching vehicles where red lights may blend in with other red lights, like brake lights on other cars or trucks.

Is there any reason that all lights are red and white, except one blue light on the back of the truck?

New York State vehicle & traffic law states they can only use rear-projecting blue lights. The law only allows for front & rear facing blue lights for volunteer firefighters. NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law § 375.41

You also have amber on the back. But most fire departments in America don’t use blue lights.

Blue lights were added to the rear because they are more visible in poor weather conditions (like fog), also blue lights are more visible at night as they are less prone to blend in with other surrounding lights (traffic signals, vehicle tail lights, etc). Nationally red and white are more 'traditional' for fire and all blue or red and blue are more 'traditional' for police; though it varies dramatically based on jurisdiction (state/local laws).

Yes it's due to the fact blue is more visible at night and in fog/rain. They can't have blue on the front because it is too bright in rear view mirrors and opposing traffic
