FDNY Engine! 54, Ladder! 4, and Battalion! 9 are first due on a Class III alarm

We are at the quarters for FDNY Engine 54, Ladder 4, and Battalion 9 at the corner of 48th Street and 8th Avenue, where we see a full house run for a Class III alarm on 6th Avenue between 36th and 37th Streets. All 3 companies were first due. Battalion 9 was already out on another run, so they responded from their scene. Engine 54 is a 2003 Ferrara high rise/high pressure pumper. Ladder 4 is using a spare originally used at the Fire Factory at Engine 58 and Ladder 26 up in Harlem. The ladder being used is a 2002 Seagrave with a 100 foot rear mount aerial. Enjoy the dispatching sounds from inside quarters, as well as the good amount of noise made by the companies as they responded. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Zeke Mings yep, happens a lot in nyc, I got to spend the night at a fire house where rescue 3 was and all I hear at 1:47AM is BEEEEEEEEEEEEE-BOOPOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-------- ENGINE-LADDER-SPECIAL UNIT- BATTALION. WE ARE UH... FIRST DUE. Then the chief said “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING, AND YOUR RADIOS UPSTAIRS, WATCH IT SEBASTIAN!!!!!!!! Then the battalion chief says GET YO HANDS OF MY DAMN RADIO!

It's alot of money for the new trucks so instead they use spares or the original unit until the new model comes in. Tbh alot of ppl would tell u the old trucks are better than the new because of the old manual siren instead of the electric federal

4 Truck’s spare has the Federal Signal PA500 siren, a siren rarely heard anymore except on the spares. Same thing goes for Engine 54’s rig in this video, as it’s just a year newer. Both rigs were probably in service at the same time in first line service, with 26 Truck using 4 Truck’s spare as their first line apparatus with their lettering and ladder sign.

No, TDA's are used more elsewhere. For example, Los Angeles City has 42 TDA's, as compared to FDNY, which only uses 13.

When a company is " 1st due " that means that once dispatched they they should be the 1st company arriving at the scene.

First due means that both the engine and the truck are supposed to be the first ones to show up to the call, because of their proximity to it. Units that are 2nd and 3rd due would get there a little later because they are further away.

3 Alarm fire which means that 3 stations are responding.

BIGBLOCK5022006 uh no. It was a Class 3 Alarm. A Class 3 alarm is one of three different alarms that the FDNY is notified through. A Class 3 alarm is derived from the fact that the fire alarm box number comes after the “3” meaning it was routed through a commercial alarm system. The commercial alarm company gets the notification and then sends it to FDNY Communications who transmits the box to the proper units. And a three alarm fire does not mean 3 stations (FDNY calls them houses btw). Per FDNY SOP, a third alarm fire would bring out 12 engines, 7 ladders, 5 battalion chiefs, 1 Rescue, 1 Squad, 1 deputy chief, 1 RAC, 1 Satellite, 1 Safety Battalion, 1 SOC Battalion, 1 TSU, a Field Comms Unit, and 1 Mask Services Unit. As you can see, a hell of a lot more than 3 firehouses.

@@nateolanday1682 I never knew that. I'm more familiar with how the fire departments do it here in Jackson Michigan. For example, last week a house two blocks from my house caught fire and at first it was just the Jackson Fire Department and then they made it a Mutual Aid call so Blackman - Leoni, Spring Arbor, and Henrietta Township got called in to assist along with J-DART getting called in to provide the fire fighters with coffee and a place to warm up.

@@BIGBLOCK5022006 Every department or juristiction has it's own SOPs for the calls it gets, depending on what the call is. I live in Maryland . In 1 county 4 separate companies could get called for a house fire. In another county the response would be similar to your example. It just depends

nothingspecialaboutmyname Firstly, relax. They do many of these every day and the chance that there is a real fire is slim to none (about 1% of the time). First due company is usually out the door in a minute, second due within 2. That is reasonable.

@@megagames3605 I'm relaxed :) I hope you didn't understand that "you're fucked" wrong; i meant it, the case comes in. I know that they do a lot of class 3 emergencies, but everyone will tell you that you should treat every emergency as if there were people in danger. And (at least here in germany) you'll get in serious trouble if you say things like "no need to rush, it's a false alarm".
