FDNY Hazmat 1 responds to a call for difficulty breathing

We are at quarters of FDNY Squad 288 and Hazmat 1 at 56-29 69th Street, where we see both rigs from Hazmat 1 as they go on a run for a person with difficulty breathing at 74 Ralph Avenue in Brooklyn. Squad 252, their Hazmat bread truck, and Hazmat Battalion 1 also responded. I am unsure what the other details of the call were, nor the outcome, but if I had to imagine, there was some kind of chemical or other hazardous material involved to cause the person to have difficulty breathing. The main Hazmat rig is a 2011 Ferrara Ultra truck, while the secondary rig is a 2013 Ferrara Ultra. I am uncertain of other specs. Enjoy the view of the response of both rigs. Just an FYI.......The main Hazmat 1 rig is a 2011 Ferrara Ultra, and the 2nd Hazmat 1 is a 2013 Ferrara Ultra... other than that Great Video!

Nicely caught - I like HazMat Co.1's rigs! =D How often on average do they respond? What would be the chance of them getting a call if I were to go there for an hour or more?

yeah you can't Take HM1 out to a Diffculty Breathing... it's not Possible unless if it was a Hazardous Materials Assignment

Even Rescue doesn't respond to difficulty breathing. Its usually an engine, and a rescue if they are specially called

Go to Google and type in FDNY Runs and Workers. You can find all the numbers there for numerous years. For 2020, HazMat 1 went on 735 runs for 678 emergencies and 57 fires.

Hazmat does not run on fire only calls nor med aid only, as per the special ops chief

I'm guessing it had something to do with a chemical or something else possibly poisonous that caused the difficulty breathing, causing Hazmat to be dispatched.

2 rigs 1 behind the other in house. 1st rig pulls out, stops, 2nd rig pulls in front and leads to scene. I have seen same on other videos. WHY??

@Paul2424 buff.... in fire engineering, the heaviest rig always goes first. The hazmat is significantly larger and heavier. But I’d imagine that they’re housed in the order that they are because the engine leaves more frequently than the haz-mat... the haz-mat may respond along with that engine to all hazmat calls in their response area as well

One company, two trucks. Hazmat 1 is staffed by an officer and seven firefighters (four Haz-Mat Specialist, three Haz-Mat Technician II) on each tour. Riding positions besides the officer are Entry 1 and 2, Backup 1 and 2, Decon 1 and 2, and Resource. The primary truck (tandem axle) responds with the officer, Backup 1 (as the driver), Resource, Entry 1 and 2, and Decon 1 firefighters. The second piece responds with Backup 2 (as the driver) and Decon 2 firefighters. The FDNY Operational Reference gives a general list of the equipment carried by Hazmat 1, but does not specify which equipment goes on which truck. There are many other trucks dedicated to Hazmat functions in the FDNY fleet besides Hazmat 1; all are listed here fire.wikia.com/wiki/New_York_City_Fire_Department
