I rode with this company in August 1992. Lt. Bill McDaniel was in Charge. It was my 1st time in NYC and all i wanted to do was see as many Firetrucks as i possibly could. I didn't even take time to see the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island. What an Awesome time i had.

I can't BELIEVE how light that traffic was! If they were doing a movie shoot, they couldn't get that traffic to be THAT light. It must have been a Sunday morning. And the fact that 3 almost beat the first-due truck in, L.7, says more about 7 than it does about the driving of 3.

Great vid, whoever the videographer was. Thanks for posting this vid. The Tower ladder that goes in front of ladder 3 has a Q! I thought that that wasn't allowed in FDNY, oh well, it sounded awesome. I have never heard a yelp used in FDNY. Great Vid.

Someone told me that it is because it's impossible to tell where an emergency vehicle is coming from with all the tall building. There are lots of echoes and stuff that makes long tone sirens ineffective. The shorter tones don't echo as much and therefore, you can hear where the thing is coming from.

There are only 2 vollie companies officially recognized by FDNY. They are both in Staten Island. Beside them, there is one vollie company in Brooklyn, 3 maybe 4 in Queens, and I think one up in the Bronx. These others are not dispatched by FDNY, as are the ones in S.I.

Hey , it is the laptop , but, unfortunately, the mdt doesn't show any layout of the building ! Unless you have been on a run there or did BI there we have no clue of the layout of the apartments . The FDNY does not have GPS to guide us to the fire, we use a paper map or our head. They try to get as much info about the building as possible ,C.I.D.S. info, but there are over 900,000 buildings in NYC

It's probably the dispatch computer. They have that annoying ring as an alert for certain things, like emails and such. Probably updates for the run or something.

Ok, first off, if the driver is a smoker, then dammit, let him smoke. There's nothing in the trucks that say you can't smoke in there. Smoking in an ambulance, well then that's just common sense. Besides, if you're a firefighter, especially the chauffer of a truck, in NY, chya, you would be stressed enough you want to smoke. Secondly, what was the call for? He looked disappointed when they got there. Keep up the good work guys. You're all heroes to the world =)

Nah, NYC has limits on noise levels and Q's are too loud. The only trucks that have them take them off before sending the truck for service cause the service personnel have to remove them if they see them.

Some trucks have traffic directors on them. You can see that this one doesnt. The trucks that dont have them have an amber light on each side that wig-wag back and forth. If you look at the back of some engines, you can see the same thing. The turn signal is down further.

@m17362716 жыл бұрын
yeah thats part of the reason. The city has this stupid noise ordinance thing, saying that its too loud to have a continuous siren, and because of the stop-go nature of NYC traffic, it gets annoying when such a vehicle is stuck in traffic. so they can only use electric Qs.
@nitroelite17 жыл бұрын

The telephone ringing sounds- I believe are the call-outs for another apparatus unit. (I could be mistaken though). Either which way, it's part of the FDNY radio/telecommunications system. From what Ive read in the comments here- there are two MDTs in the Engines now? (1 in the 1st Officers seat and one in the rear jumpseats?)
