Today I am working on a “1 Hour Build” out in the Sadie Smithy making a Viking eating spike. This is a possible Viking tool that would have been a multi use object for eating, poking holes, picking out and making nets, and similar jobs needing a sharp point. I start with a 6” long piece 1/4” mild steel square bar, forge out one end and create a scroll ended ring. I then put in an opposite twist below the ring, before tapering the remaining end into the eating spike. I finished the spike on the grinder and then heated and quenched it in canola oil with an added torch finish to that oil.

That would make a really nice leather marking tool. Wish I had a forge. Very nice.

I make them out of wood. I carve Scandinavian inspired eating utensils for camping or daily use. One of my main sellers is what I call “Scandi Meat Spikes. Forks are new historically speaking. The wood ones came first because metal was expensive. Great video as usual. 🎸🔪

Hi Dustin!! Very nice spike. I have got one but I bought it because I can’t forged it. But I am happy with it. Congratulations my friend, your finish is fantastic.

Thanks brother. Yeah, I might need a “detail oriented” anvil. I love getting down and being close to the work when I’m making detailed moves. Thanks for watching.
