Mexico's BEST Island: ISLA HOLBOX

We couldn't have picked a better place to end our travels in Mexico. Isla Holbox quickly became one of our favourite destinations in Mexico and we loved exploring the island. One of our favourite things to do was rent a golf cart to visit the beautiful blue beaches and the crystal clear waters. We loved the laid-back feel of Isla Holbox and think it's a great island to explore and relax at.

Just found your videos...How amazing is your extensive trip throughout the local parts of Mexico!! I'd do this in a heart beat vs a 1 wk stay at a 5* tourist hotel!

Love watching your guys videos. Always looks fun and always feels like yo guys give an honest opinion. My question to you guys is, which place did you guys prefer, Isla Holbox or Laguna Bacalar. I want to do both for so many different reasons and would be staying a total of six nights.

This is a tough question! We love both for different reasons. I guess the big downside of Bacalar is that it's a lagoon and therefore has no actual beaches. But the water is shallow, not salty and the town still has a relaxing, beach vibe though it's farther from Cancun. We haven't been to Holbox since 2016 so I think there are more options and a larger variety in town for things like accommodations, restaurants, nightlife, activities, etc compared to Bacalar which we found to be a lot smaller and quieter. 6 nights in either one is plenty but to do both in under a week might be tight considering long travel in between. Maybe a Mahahual and Bacalar combo? We haven't been but have heard good things about the beaches and at least it's a lot closer to combine with a few days in Bacalar. Just a thought! Hey Javier - we have a post on our blog with more info about Isla Holbox: featherandthewind.com/2017/01/13/isla-holbox-mexico-guide/ You'll have to take a bus to the town of Chiquila and from there get a ferry to the island. Hope that helps and have a great trip!

Thanks for the feedback Maily! It's a bit tricky to get to Holbox but worth it if you have at least a couple of days to explore the island. From Cancun, you need to take a bus to Chiquila where there are ferries and private boats that go to Holbox several times a day. Hope that helps :)

this place was in our plans, but was to far frm playa to go and return same day, so we go to isla mujeres, same we rent a golf car.

Hola que tal? Me ha gustado su vídeo, cual es el nombre de la playa que aparece por el minuto 7? En octubre iré con mi novia,pero solo estaremos un día, ya que nos estaremos hospedando en Mérida, quisiéramos solo estar en Holbox desde la mañana hasta la tarde-noche, y buscamos un lugar donde podamos pasar todo ese tiempo en la playa, y tal vez conocer al rededor del pueblo, no estamos muy interesados en los tours, mas bien en disfrutar de la playa. Alguna recomendación? Saludos

+Esaú Velázquez Saludos Esaú! Esa playa esta cerca del muelle en el pueblo. No me acuerdo exactamente donde pero alli cerca de Beach Bar La Palapa. La playa cerca de Villas Flamingos tambien esta bonita porque se puede ir caminando en el agua. En la isla hay varias playas para pasar un dia y el pueblo es muy chico. Tienen carro? Porque de Merida a Chiquila no salen muchos camiones.. Que disfruten!!
