my february entertainment favourites:
- [ ] american nightmare (netflix series): this will absolutely infuriate you but is a brilliant documentary highlighting how impactful a gross miscarriage of justice can be. lots of twists and turns and at several points I had no idea who or what to believe. really worth watching.
- [ ] the glory (netflix series): I binge watched this in under a week. it's about a woman who was horrifically bullied in school who devotes her life to getting revenge on her abusers. the absolute best revenge series I've ever seen and the acting is brilliant.
- [ ] how not to die by michael greger: a life-changing book for me. dr greger takes us through all the leading causes of premature "ending" in the west and how dietary changes can - if not completely remove - at least dramatically reduce our chances of acquiring these illnesses. so interesting and has changed my eating habits quite a lot.
- [ ] the silk house by kayte nunn: I adore historical fiction, and especially fiction that is either written in or set in georgian england (this is partially the latter). I listened to this on audible and looked forward to eating my lunch and being transported back in time. the book has a few parallel storylines, all with female protagonists, set in the same town but spanning across different centuries.
- [ ] shrines of gaiety by kate atkinson: an unexpectedly funny crime novel set in 1920s london soho. captures the seediness of the nightclub scene beautifully as well as the nihilistic & hedonistic tendencies of a generation maimed (mentally and physically) by ww1. I ordered four more of her books after finishing this. so, so good.
